Like, Nine popping by to visit John and bringing him some fast food pancakes he picked up on the way, and John stuffing his face hungrily while tiredly ranting about the most recent government bullshit he's had to settle down, and Nine chiming in with some government bullshit of his own that had him tied up in knots over for months

Nine wanting to get a birthday gift for Ella and asking John if he knows what she'd want, and John mockingly telling him to send her a photo of himself since Ella used to crush on him back in the penthouse, and Nine likes to plaster his face everywhere so much, prompting a scoff from Nine and a comment on how John should try it sometime to appease some fans of his own (John wouldn't try but thinks it's funny anyway)

John and Nine having their own handshake because Nine never really had one before and John kind of missing nonchalant greetings like those, so he and Nine spend a couple minutes figuring one out, and then adding about an hour more of it because it'd be cooler to incorporate some Legacies into it, before getting too complicated with it and settling with a simple 3 step one

Adam: In general, or the plan?

John: The plan, Adam.

Malcolm: The best revenge is letting go and living well.

Fugitive Six: Nine, how do I get-

John: *turning in his swivel chair*

Ella: I was uh, I was hanging out with Nine

The way they interact with each other is a little odd and it weirds people out.

They’re hard to follow at times because there are whole gaps missing where they’ve used telepathy. Like when they both understand a concept but can’t articulate it for the life of them

“They seemed to have a whole conversation with their eyes” - oh, wait

Their expressions changing + them rolling their eyes at telepathic jokes

Sometimes they’ll bear each other’s deepest thoughts in public, which leads to lots of awkwardness and embarrassment

But they still trust each other deeply. They get where to draw the line with nosing around in the other’s thoughts and sharing those thoughts with other people

Ella is pretty open about knowing people’s thoughts

John tries to be polite by not mentioning it. He really tries to maintain some boundaries

Thoughts that are ‘strong’ are harder for telepaths to block out

“Get out of my head!” “You think I wanted to see THAT?! Hard to block it out when you standing right next to me and screaming”

*community member/student telling Ella about a project they want John’s help with*

Ella: I’ll ask John

Person: ok, thanks Ella *turns to leave*

Ella: John likes your idea and would be happy to help. Let him know what you need from him. He’ll be in the cave/command center tonight

Ella:

Person: okaay

Both of them are really emotionally intelligent as a by product of telepathy

John having the occasional emotional breakdown and Ella is aware of them and does her best to help him through them

Though there was a point where John would straight up avoid Ella when he was breaking down from mental illness he doesn’t do that anymore

They know when the other is not ok

Other people going to John or Ella for advice abou the other

*kid who has a crush on Ella is doing some unrelated activity with John*

John, shamelessly: you should ask her out
