After creating mayhem in the attempt to avoid layering turtlenecks under my school uniform for the majority of my early childhood, I never thought I would find myself coveting the generally unflattering yet practical fashion "trend" for my own wardrobe. While I still cringe at the thought of my face being isolated from whatever color/ pattern covers the entire top half of my body, the Pre-Fall 2014 lines are giving me a new sense of turtleneck-wearing confidence (hello Alexander Wang cropped shrug). While my sophisticated side is intrigued, my ego is still getting over my childhood fears. But hey, they keep you warm, right?

New works by Alexandria Silberkleit.
"A lot of my work deals with memory and attempting to recreate the past in ways that make it permanent and tangible. However, issues of sexuality and the relationship between masculinity and femininity have become recurring themes in my body of work as well. In my Anti-Aging Device (images 1 and 2), bent wood and a mask brace my knees keeping me in a crawling pose, forcing me to adopt the role of a character in a childhood pretend game. My positions are meant to juxtapose the images of infancy with conceivable sexual implications which I find impossible to ignore as an adult. In my Daddy Issues installation (images 3 and 4), a comical yet somewhat pitiful pink tree decorated with sparkles – which I cut down completely naked - represents all that I have to show for the fragments of masculinity that I inherited from my father before he passed away. Through this sculpture I desperately tried to give form to the "masculine" knowledge, skill set, and perspective that I feel my father could have passed on to me. At the same time, the work acknowledges the notion that - as a straight woman - the closest thing to a father figure in my life will most likely come from the creation of a family of my own and is in that way connected to my own sexuality. In We Didn't Know We Were Feminists, a performance that I shared with fellow artist Sally Caruso (images 5 and 6), we attempted to address another duality related to female sexuality that we have been exploring as individuals and we find other women struggling with: frustration with the ways in which our bodies are so readily objectified while at the same time enjoying the feelings of empowerment and pride that come with this unsolicited attention;  we play a part in the objectification and over-sexualization of women in the media yet we are neither comfortable with nor accepting of the insecurities triggered by our own objectification."
DOIN' THE ANNIE - We know, we know! Woody Allen's 78th birthday was yesterday and we're a day late to the party. Still, we wanted to honor him (but mainly the fabulous Diane Keaton) by coming up with an Annie Hall inspired ensemble. "La di da la la..."

Top these, Kanye! Raf Simons's spring collaboration with Adidas is now available for pre-order at Sneakerboy and is due to ship out in February! Needless to say, they're fucking awesome. Good thing we can't afford them because otherwise we'd be mad at the fact that they're already all sold out. Mr. Simons strikes again!
Took a little walk to Sherwood Gardens with my lovely friend Lexey today. She was wearing some pretty awesome pants, don't you think?

Pharrell Williams presents Happy,€” the world's first 24 hour music video. The original video is only about four minutes long and is fairly simple: dancers prance about and sing along to the song "Happy", which was also featured on Despicable Me 2. And then the song starts all over again, so on and so forth for a whooping 24 hours! Odd Future, Steve Carell, and Magic Johnson are only a few of the cameos that appear throughout the video.Â
The whole thing is interactive, it lets you pause/play at your leisure and skip around various dance venues in L.A., float down city streets, and peruse a variety of other locations including what appears to be an elementary school. If you're like most of us and don't have the time/patience/dedication to stick around for too long you can drag a slider around the clock and pick an hour of the day to view. Disclaimer: the bemused onlookers might actually be the best part.
