Chapter 6: “In the great darkness, insanity is the only equalizer.” 

—Three Hours Later—

Time’s POV:

        After we met back up with Legends and Warriors we continued walking until we met up with everyone else. We introduced everyone to Sinatra and they introduced us to what I could only assume to be the same species as Sinatra that took the form of Four. “H-Hello. My name’s Mercury a-and Four was my guardian.” “Hold up. What do you mean ‘was’?” There was a long and awkward silence until Wild spoke up. “Four, he-he died after being split. Along with Babble, Worlds buried them. After that we decided to search for you guys.” Another long bout of silence. “So… are we still searching for shelter?” Legends asked me. “Time?” “…Yes we are, let's keep moving.” We walked for a long time after that until we found a HOUSE, we all braced ourselves then I knocked on the door.

My POV:

        I opened the door to find eight people standing in front of me, “Hey guys! Come on in!” Time was the first to come in followed by Twilight, Wind, Sky, Worlds, then a shadow Four, and a shadow Hyrule who was carrying the real Hyrule, “What happened here?” I asked, they all looked solemnly at me until finally Time spoke, “We were attacked by a monster that killed Texts and Four.”  “So you’ve met THE OTHER. I’m sorry for your loss.” Time looked confused, “Thank you… But What is THE OTHER?” Time asked, “THE OTHER.” I said, “Is the thing that you encountered within the forest.” Time sat down alongside what was left of the chain, “What is HE?” Time asked, I took a deep breath and started to explain, “It is a 4th dimensional being that has sway over the space-time continuum, and as such HE can manipulate it to time travel, teleport, or completely erase a being from reality. HE has been here for a long time, and as such HE has taken on many forms,  of-course you’ve already met HIS favorite. HE’S been plaguing me and others for a long time, putting us through a cycle encompassing dozens of souls.” They all looked saddened, and Sky in particular had a look of understanding on his face, “I am sorry you have to experience that,” Time said, “It’s okay, it gets easier after a while.” I chuckled melancholically at the thought, but everyone else looked at me with a sorrowful expression on their faces. “What?”

                                   Time’s POV:

        My goddess, what has this kid been through? He talks about it so nonchalantly, not even I’m that comfortable with Demise’s curse. I felt sorry for him, “What?” He asked, “It’s nothing. Let's just get settled down.”

Chapter 7: The House contains all.

My POV:

        It was odd having so many beings inside my house. I was used to being alone so I hadn’t worked on my hospitality, I wondered how long it would be until they left like everyone else; but thinking about that wasn’t my top priority, my top priority was to heal Hyrule, “So. I’m guessing you guys haven’t dealt with a sickness like this before?” They all shook their heads, “It does look similar to Tuberculosis.” Worlds said, “Yeah well I wish it was; it’s called Slender sickness, it’s caused by THE OTHER’s Gamma radiation that IT passively infects its surroundings with.” I went into the bathroom and got out a bottle of pills, then I went to the kitchen, “Along with the usual coughing up blood, loss of weight, pain, chills, and fever. Symptoms of Slender sickness also include: Short-term memory loss, long-term memory loss, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, split personality disorder.” I got a glass of water and headed towards the living room, “Insomnia, night terrors, sleepwalking, and in worst case scenarios… death.”

Hyrule’s POV:

        Darkness… then light, I opened my eyes to a void, both black and white, it looked as though both colors were occupying the space at the same time. “Hello? I-is a-anyone there?” I stuttered out. I looked around and found Sinatra with his back to me. “Oh thank God! I thought I was all alone!” I ran towards him, when I reached him I nearly hugged him but I hesitated. “Hey Sinatra!“ He said nothing, “Sinatra, is there something wrong?” Then ‘Sinatra’ turned to face me. 

Time’s POV:

        We all worried when he told us about the symptoms. They were unlike anything else we’ve seen. It must have taken an immense amount of magic to do something like this to someone. It had been a few hours since we arrived at the house and we were currently waiting for Hyrule to recover from the ‘sickness’ he had contracted from that THING; in the meantime the others decided to explore the house we were in while I asked Andrew about the realm that we were in, “Andrew may I ask you something?” “Sure.” “What is this… world that we find ourselves in?” “Well we are in what is called the “CANDLEVERSE”. It was named after a children’s show that never existed yet still somehow managed to get on air… exactly like this place.” I looked at him confused, “What do you mean?” “I mean that the world we’re in right now wasn’t meant to… how do I say this right… um… exist on any traversable layer of reality, yet it somehow managed to pull its way up to the 3rd, 4th, and 5th dimensions. It created a physical place for things to inhabit within its bounds and eventually higher beings found it and decided to use it like a prison.” This was all getting a bit too much to handle, even for me.

Chapter 8: Questions.

My POV:

        Now that I had answered their questions I wanted to ask my own, “Hey Time? Could I ask you something?” “Go ahead.” “How come you aren’t more wary around me? Like I could be an enemy that deliberately led you into a trap.” He let out a deep sigh, “Listen, we’ve seen enough portals and have been attacked enough times to know that the Shadow doesn’t just throw its troops directly at Lon Lon, nor would it attack us so blatantly without wearing us down first.“ I nodded, “Well why did you just let me into your house? And why did you immediately assume I was one of you?” “First: it’s the right thing to do when you see a clearly injured and malnourished person standing at your front door, and second: no normal person just falls through a portal in the sky.” He replied, I nodded, of course he saw that, “But I don’t have the same type of ears as you; I’m human.” I said, gesturing to my ears, “It’s hard to explain but those with the spirit of the hero draws others with the same spirit to each other, and it knows if it’s looking at another incarnation whether they’re hylian or not.”

Time’s POV:

        “So can you feel when other incarnations are near?” He asked, I shook my head, “No, you have to be looking directly at them, and even then if they’re not from Hyrule it gets complicated.” He nodded, “Okay, hey uh sorry to change the subject but how are you guys doing? It’s never a good experience having a run-in with THE OTHER.” I didn’t know how to respond. I had become used to being able to plan in advance, think out all the possibilities… but here… here it somehow felt like planning or trying to prepare weren’t going to help. Honestly it felt like just being here was sapping my will to keep going. “Hey you ok?” I looked up, I hadn’t even realized that my head had been drifting downwards, “Y-yeah I’m good, I’m just… a little disoriented is all.”

Chapter 9: Non-Euclidian.

Wind’s POV:

        I left Andrew and Time as I walked down the hallway, at the end of the hallway was a mirror covered with a blanket, I decided to check a doorway to my right, I opened the door and stepped into a large room that was much too big for how large the house looked on the outside. It looked to be a living room that had a few couches and chairs, and on the walls were impossibly placed windows that were on the same wall as the still open door yet somehow showed the outside world. I decided to stop thinking about it before my head started to hurt, I headed back out into the hallway and decided to try to find the others.

Worlds’ POV:

        It looked like an MC Escher painting. The room curled in on itself over and over, it was almost nauseating to look at, luckily Wind came through the door and snapped me out of my awe before something bad happened, “This house makes no sense.” “I agree, let's get back to the living room before something weird happens to us.” He nodded and we headed out the door and into the hallway. When we got out into the hallway something felt off, “Hey Wind is it just me or does the hallway feel… bigger somehow?” “No, it’s not just you.” Suddenly a door materialized into the left-hand wall. “We are not going to investigate that.” Wind nodded in agreement.

Twilight’s POV:

        As I left the front room and entered the kitchen I noticed a door at the back of the room and decided to check it out. As I walked towards the door I could hear what sounded like singing, but it was too muffled to make out so I opened the door. When I walked into the room it was as if reality flipped and everything was folding along an unseen line, everything was upside down, including me, but everything outside the door was right-side up, and the music, it was blaring; “Yippy-yay! There'll be no wedding bells for today~ I got spurs that jingle, jangle, jingle!~” It was almost too loud to bear, I decided to get out of there, as soon as I stepped through the door back to the kitchen, I came to a completely different area of the house that I had never seen before, I was in a large open front room with many passages that webbed out from the main area, it looked like a completely different house. I called out to try to find the others, luckily I heard Sky’s voice coming from a passage to my left.

Sky’s POV:

        I heard Twi’s voice coming from a passage to my right so I called back, we eventually joined back up with the others in the room we all started in, Worlds’ voiced the question that was on probably everyone’s mind: “What is going on with this place? It feels like every room here belongs to a different building! Some of the rooms I’ve seen here are way too big to belong to the ‘house’ we saw coming in, it’s like if a child built a house without understanding what size or function was.” Andrew just nodded then answered, “Yeah, it was difficult for me at first as well, luckily I started recognizing what it was after a while; it’s all of the houses that I have lived in throughout my life mashed together without rhyme or reason.”

Chapter 10: Candleverse.

My POV:

        They all seemed tired and fed up with this place, I didn’t blame them, Worlds was the first to speak up, “So, how long do you think we’ll be here for?” That was a question that I didn’t have an answer for, “I don’t know. How long do you guys usually stay in different places?” I didn’t want to tell them that they might never get out if something happened, “Well I haven’t been part of the group that long but usually it’s about-“ Suddenly Hyrule jolted up screaming, electricity crackled and leapt from his hands and scorched the couch he was sleeping on. Time immediately went to his side to calm him down, I followed closely behind.

Hyrule’s POV:

        I shot up screaming and in a cold sweat, it felt like I had just escaped a void that wanted to consume me. Time immediately came to my side and calmed me down. He had a mixture of fear, worry and relief on his face, standing directly beside Time was Andrew, he looked worried as well but also a little curious. Surrounding the other side of the couch were the rest of the chain, but it included Sinatra and Mercury, “What happened? Where’s Four?” Suddenly I noticed that Texts wasn’t present either, “Where’s Babble, what happened?!” They all suddenly went quiet until Andrew answered me, “They died, they were attacked by THE OTHER, and, since you didn’t know that, I guess you were already asleep when it happened.” That name, it sounded familiar, trying to remember it almost felt like trying to remember a dream, so close, yet so far. But that didn’t matter now, what mattered was making sure the others were alright, and finding out where I was.
