no one really mentions how difficult it is to grow up feeling less than your friends who are considered to be more pretty as a child and how much it impacts the way you grow up. like yes, i knew i was pretty, but no guys used to approach me back when i was in middle school and rarely through high school compared to my friends and i can only know just see how much it impacts me today whenever a guy approaches me and starts flirting with me because my first thoughts are always going to be "this has to be a joke" or "someone dared him to do this". whenever my friends compliment me, it takes me aback because growing up, no one really told me i was pretty expect my mom, but i always thought she did that because it was expected of her and not because she genuinely thought that i, her own daughter, could compare to the beauty that she was. it's gotten better throughout the years, but sometimes it's just hard to believe someone genuinely finds me attractive.
