Honestly, fuck ALL professors who refuse to round grades, especially when students have everything to lose for just a percent difference. As students, grades are everything and nothing.
They are nothing because, of course, a number shouldn’t define you, all that, etc. But they’re everything because, well, let’s face it, you need them to further your education and they serve as a way for institutions to determine your usefulness to them.
More often than not, I actually find myself in the hands of wonderful professors who chose the profession they are in because they remember what it means to be a learner. However, seemingly, as you may have predicted from the mood of this post, students find themselves in the hands of professors who encourage the institution of education to be something it is not.
A professor loses nothing from rounding a student’s grade. A student does. They lose their confidence in being able to pursue what they are passionate about because the system says if you cannot obtain the highest mark, there is no place for you.
Profs who purposely make a course difficult to maintain a reputation, deserve to suffer the same magnitude of consequences their students are forced to endure. If, as a professor, you do not feel confident in being able to say that you truly provided your students with every resource they needed to be successful in your course, you do not deserve a place in your profession.
All in all, a big fat fuck you to professors who know they are not there to accept the true responsibility of being an educator. You deserve be bent over and have life fuck you in ass with a cactus. Your offer to write me a “letter of recommendation” will not pay for my annoyingly expensive education nor reimburse my health and time in your class.
A surprisingly angry individual who will be obligated to continue crawling in an unreformed and irritating system.
