I do not care about syscourse, shipcourse, or anything mundane online unless it is actively hurting real beings, both people and animals. I however, hold no tolerance for a few things/communities/ideologies.
Radqueers, pro-paras for harmful paraphilias, regardless of contact stance, make me incredibly uncomfortable. I do not support a lot of the anti recovery rhetoric even in supposed anti contact spaces. I have my own qualms with many political spaces due to having entered some unfortunate rabbit holes 2018-2020 and for my own sake I avoid topics centered around political figures or current events, or accounts who heavily theme around discussing politics. I do reblog stuff about bigotry (ie anti blackness, racism, queerphobia/queer infighting, ableism, etc) but I do not view discussions of bigotry as political.
Similarly if you believe all art is inherently political please keep that off my page and works! If something is drawn with political intent I will specify, but unless I specify, it isn't, thanks! If you believe everything is inherently political please just don't mention it in my posts, it makes me uncomfortable + causes anxiety. Hello trans people, if your partner discourages you from transitioning (socially or medically) or tries to postpone it against your own wishes (we should have kids first, can't you wait until later to start hormones, we should wait before you get surgery, etc), fucking run!!!!!!!!!!! This might be controversial to say but a lot of people, mostly cis but some trans people do it too, see their partner coming out as nonbinary not as an important part of their life and an evolution of their identity and the couple's relationship but instead as a. . . phase. Something to tolerate and "allow" until their partner "gets over it" all while they pretend to be supportive. This tends to get overlooked a lot, because they often use their partner's pronouns and name, but there is a point where that "indulgence" for their partner's "whims" turns to tolerance and then to impatience and then to anger, especially if their partner wants to medically/legally transition or come out to other people.
This is especially obvious to me personally with cishet men who are "fine" with their partners coming out as nonbinary until those partners want to take hormones or have surgery or even asks that they not be so attached to the label of straight when in a relationship with someone who isn't a woman. It all comes down to the fact that they were just putting up with their partners' identities and the moment they're affected, then it's time for the "game" to be over.
And my fellow nonbinary peeps, if you feel like your partner is just indulging your identity without actually respecting it, then you're probably right.
I wish I could make white people(and not just white Americans) understand how diverse the pre-columbian Americas were. The history, religion, culture, politics was at least as complex as Europe's. There was the full gamut of religions, from monotheists to animists to ancestral religions. There were city building empires, village farmers, nomadic traders, and so many other ways to live. This is all just based on what we know, the fragments left behind and the stories of survivors of an apocalyptic plague. All this before the most extended campaign of genocide in history was waged in an attempt to wipe out those survivors.
Over 500 years spent trying to cut down a whole trunk of human culture.
Do you understand how much poorer our whole species is because of it? Can you imagine where art, religion, and science would be if we still had these vast bodies of knowledge? now for my question, i was wondering how one might approach designing a fictional humanoid species while avoiding inadvertently recreating racist stereotypes.
as far as examples, i can think of certain sci-fi alien species i’ve seen that fall into this territory, in my mind. there’s also been “rubberhose style” cartoon revival attempts that don’t seem to grapple with the fact the designs derive from minstrel show stereotypes.
my first thought is simply researching the history of racial stereotypes in an effort to know what not to do and why, but i’d love to know your thoughts on this matter as well <3
