The Photographer’s Chair’s working title was actually The Spiritualist’s Chair. 

There’s also Three Gables, a story whose villain is a woman named Isadora Klein (!); she committed a crime to cover up an affair she was having.

And then there’s The Missing Three-Quarter, which is about a sick wife being kept a secret.

And then there’s Three Students, which is about a student deceiving his teacher...

HE’S the forensic brains behind super sleuth Sherlock Holmes, but actor Ian Richardson says his role as Dr Joseph Bell is not as demanding as some as he has played. Because, at least this time, he doesn’t have to get down to some real nitty gritty with his co-star, television newcomer Charles Edwards who stars as Dr Arthur Conan Doyle. Unlike on other occasions. Says Ian: “My first screen kiss was with Anthony Hopkins in the BBC drama about the spy Anthony Blunt, ” says Ian. And as if being intimate with Hannibal Lecter wasn’t enough, he also had to endure an on-screen kiss with Rik Mayall in The Canterville Ghost. Unfortunately, the wacky comedian, famous for his disgusting personal habits in the TV comedy Bottom, had been eating garlic the night before. Ian explains: “I hadn’t the heart to tell him because I didn’t want to put him off his stride - or his kiss.” Luckily, he’s not expected to be intimate with any men in his latest role, but he did find amputating legs and performing autopsies difficult to handle. He says: “I wouldn’t say I’m squeamish. And I’m not a vegetarian. But I couldn’t eat meat for six months after that.” Ian’s performance as the real sleuth behind one of the most memorable characters of all time received wide acclaim in the first series - here and in the US. And he’s hoping to live up to the public’s expectation this time around. One critic said of his role: “Ian Richardson is perfectly cast and wonderfully watchable.” Based on the real-life relationship between Doyle and Bell, the original film was set in 1878 and led the pair into the murky underbelly of Victorian society in their pursuit of a serial killer. Now, the drama moves on to the 1880s and recounts further experiences of the young Conan Doyle, a former medical student. Richardson was delighted to hear they were planning a sequel to the drama: “When they asked me to play Joseph Bell, I was thrilled to bits because at 60 I’m too old ever to play Sherlock Holmes again. "But then I thought: What the hey! Why not play the guy who started it all?”
