something in benson died the moment he saw ms. beard hug randy. he had just killed the teacher who tormented him throughout his childhood, whose abuse haunted him up to that very day. to see randy so loved and so welcomed by the teacher whose memory used to linger in the back of his mind destroyed benson. he had always somewhat believed he deserved to be treated how mr. shepherd treated him, but that moment confirmed it. he was violent, and that got him nowhere. he got revenge, sure, but he would never get the acceptance randy was getting. it was this moment that planted the idea of his own death in his mind.
