hojun should be worried, but he’s not. honestly, yoojin looks like a scared kitten, all puffed up and trying to act tougher than he was. it’s cute. yoojin is still cute. quietly he walks up to the other, watching the other. it’s clear that yoojin is still hurting… still trapped in the past. hojun just wanted to grab him and bring him into the future.

“are you okay?” he asks, knowing that the other will probably lash out at him. he’s not really that worried about getting hurt- even if yoojin hexed him he wouldn’t bat an eyelash. he takes a few more steps forward, eager to try and help. but he knows that yoojin would probably lose his mind if he advanced too quickly. “i’m not here to hurt you.” 

“i know you’re not”, his voice is lower and even with hints of darkness, as yoojin allows hojun’s words sink in and everything is so out there already, his mind is so much lost for the past that the memories come and go easily now, from one year to another and even if he tries to return to the reality, he’s still there, now trapped in hogwarts, during a particular but recurrent moment.

he’s trapped again by the quidditch players and he can’t really make out which houses they belonged, because it seemed like a pattern, that the only time they would speak the same language was to lash out on him. he had a scared look on his face as he waited for whatever punishment he was about to receive when his eyes locked with someone else’s, the only person who wasn’t smiling at that. yoojin pleaded him with those same eyes, but hojun just looked away.

yoojin was in a bad mood and it wasn’t something new. he was still reeking from the stupid celebration party after hwaseong’s win on quidditch on saturday and everything smelled like butterbeer and sex and he wasn’t having it anymore. at least it was swimming meeting day and he could finally relax, without stupid people replaying the stupid match and kang levi’s amazing seeker’s moves - he was done with it; quidditch season made him question the whole semester.

he wasn’t the most dedicated swimmer but he enjoyed feeling his muscles underwater and the fact there were almost to no former hogwarts quidditch players at the team. even though he tried to swim under the radar, he was rather good and was even breaking a couple of records here and there without even trying, much to his displease, since all he wanted was to remain unnoticed.

and it was right there, when he finished a lap, he noticed two people talking and looking at him. they didn’t hide their stares, especially the taller male and it made yoojin’s blood boil already, if he was talking shit about him, something was definitely going down. “fuck, i love mokseong so much”, he muttered under his breath, his walls all back up as he stared back at dom - he guessed that was his name - from across the pool, chin up.

“if you have something to say, say it to my face.”

ah. hojun knew this would happen eventually.

the problem was, that hojun wasn’t really trying to avoid yoojin per say… it was more of the fact he wanted to watch over the other. and it had been going well, but unfortunately it seems like yoojin has finally figured it out. to show that he wasn’t trying to be a threat he held his hands up, showing that he held nothing of danger.

“relax. i’m just going the same way you are.” which is the truth. he was just walking further behind so that he could head to his veterinary class to grab his backpack he forgot earlier in the day. “i’m going to get my backpack from a classroom, if that’s what you really want to know.” hojun adds. 

“i don’t care”, yoojin bites back, in his head he already gave hojun too much of his time while listening to his explanation. it annoys him because no matter where he goes, there’s always this presence around him, like a personal shadow that doesn’t belong to him, always following him around; it didn’t matter if yoojin couldn’t see him, but he could feel him and it was worse than physically being able to see him with his own eyes.

“what are you doing here?” yoojin allows his voice to come out sharper, cutting through the rain that started to fall that evening, as soon as he sensed someone approaching. he didn’t need to be a psychic to know who was coming at that time, sneaking around like a snake, trying to catch their prey. it made him even angrier, memories of a time when hogwarts students would hide and wait for him just ambush him, bully and leave him behind, with the silent promise that he should never walk around feeling safe.

“you’re fine. people are just annoying.” one of the reasons why he doesn’t like dealing with them, but bell digresses. “i’m going to hex you if what they’re playing in the theatre is something boring, though.” bell doesn’t get scared that easily, if at all.

he does feel a little something—maybe a little bad? who knows—for seemingly hurting yoojin’s feelings. it doesn’t sit right with him. “the only way you’re going to make it weird is if you continue to sulk like that. so stop it.”

Yoojin felt like pouting, really. Mostly because Jaehyun was teasing him and he wanted to be serious so bad but ended up smiling. “You’d never hex me though. I’m too cute.” He teased him back and it was so out of character, he immediately regretted.

However, one thing was right – he did feel more at ease when he heard him saying people were annoying, reassuring him everything was fine, that they were fine. Yoojin wanted to say out loud that people were annoying, that normally he would have a hard time dealing with them but he silenced that thought for a moment, focusing on having fun during that night.

“I have no idea what they’ll be playing, I heard they wanted to show some old movies. Like Halloween or something like that.” He was a sucker for horror movies and wanted to watch something really scary but he wasn’t so sure if the school would bring those up, as he knew a lot of the students would barely pay attention to what was in front of them.

he wants to say that no, he doesn’t. that he isn’t even planning in getting inside anyway, but soohwa is also a little too paranoid that this boy will find out that he’s scared of stupid haunted houses, of spirits that aren’t even a real threat that what he says instead is— “sure.” he shrugs with a casualty that he doesn’t really feel. “but i wouldn’t want to keep you from whatever you were doing before. aren you, young people, supposed to meet other young people and just do what you do?” and it’s funny because it isn’t like soohwa is old anyway, he’s barely on his mid twenties and he already talks like a grandfather. but this is good, this is distracting, hopefully the other will just confirm that he has another thing to do with another person and leave soohwa to not get into the haunted house. 

As Yoojin heard the older student speak, he felt like laughing at him, not out of disrespect but simply because it made no sense Soohwa would see himself as old as a fossil. For someone who truly enjoyed being in the presence of older people and would even feel more comfortable around them, the Hwaseong junior found that rather amusing.

“Come on hyung, you can’t be serious. Young people like me? As if you’re not young as well.” He was feeling giddy for a moment, watching the Toseong student for maybe too long. He could understand the reserved attire he had, though; maybe it was his personality, maybe something had happened before and Yoojin wasn’t one to judge or intrude. He just thought perhaps he should have some fun.

Because Yoojin himself used Halloween to exorcise all his fears and bad thoughts (or at least he tried), by dressing up as someone else and allowing himself to feel and do things he wouldn’t normally dare to.

Yoojin was truly amazed by the Halloween decoration that year. The efforts paid especially on what was in front of him, the Haunted House, just made his smile wider, almost manic. He truly loved that holiday and since he enrolled Mokseong, he would anticipate that particular day in October; the thought of becoming someone else and having fun without fearing consequences, of not having people judging you even if it was for a whole day was just...great.

So it was with great joy he chose his prince outfit for that year, the red velvet coat, along with his crown made him look like an expensive person and he smirked to himself as he knew exactly where he wanted to go first - the place was just in front of him.

Lots of students were coming and going that night and the ones who would leave the place looked quite scared while others just seemed to be having too much fun and the thought of playing along with everything magical he was about to find inside made Yoojin almost run to the main door, only stopping when he saw the figure wearing a cheerleader outfit.

At first he frowned, truly thinking it was a girl he hadn’t seen before - because let’s be honest… LEGS - but then he realized it was Toseong`s head boy just there looking quite uncertain. Yoojin took a few steps closer, looking at the older male, offering him a smile.

Yoojin was losing his patience with the student in front of him. Sure he tried to play nice and it didn’t work. He tried to be more effusive and even interrupted Kevin a couple of times but the boy didn’t seem to take the hint. So he did what he always does best - pretend he wasn’t there, like projecting his thoughts somewhere else.

Kevin probably didn’t remember him but Yoojin did - he was one of those students from Hogwarts, one that would always bring memories to him, even if they hardly interacted in his early days but still it was there, like an old scar that never really vanished.

Yoojin was again working for the newspaper and he was supposed to be taking pictures but apparently Kevin wanted to talk about the match Geumseong just lost and honestly, Yoojin just wanted to laugh at their loss but he remained professional for a couple more minutes until he was finally done.

When Yoojin got to his room after the longest potions class he ever endured, all he wanted was to eat and find comfort under his warm blanket. The weather had changed considerably and the chilling winds tossed his hair everywhere and made him lock the door and the window as soon as he closed the first one behind him.

Jaewon wasn’t around, or at least he didn’t notice any noise coming from his roommate’s bedroom so he just decided to take a warm shower and proceed with his plans for the night.

As he was finally able to relax, Yoojin gave it some thought as how blessed he was finally feeling at MSU, with no more people nagging him about his parents. It still gets on his nerves, from time to time when he would see people from his past, and even if they didn’t do anything against him anymore, it made him anxious; however, not to the point to drive him to that dark place, where he wanted nothing more than hurt people.

It took him half an hour to finally find his spot on the couch, taking with him a large bowl of popcorn and the heaviest duvet on the house for Yoojin to feel a hundred percent at ease. And it was exactly when he just logged on his Netflix account and set the first episode of Bly Manor that he heard the front door opening and a silhouette of a male came to view.

“No forts without me!”

Yoojin hid his smile under the covers; Jaewon was home.

It was a rare sight to spot Yoojin smiling and whistling like he was doing the past five minutes. He had just left the quidditch field and after stopping by the kitchens to grab some snacks, he opted to go to the newspaper club instead of his own dorms.

He wasn’t happy because Hwaseong won another match, this one wasn’t as easy as the past one, but again Levi played like the king he was (not that he would ever admit that). Instead, he was happy because of the match itself - it was brutal and hard, amazing even. To watch the players send bludgers and hit their opponents almost made him salivate for more, for the pain that unfolded in front of his eyes.

Making his way into the room, he noticed it was silent at first and even empty but it was just his eyes were just bewitched for a moment and his ears caught the distinctive sound of snoring.

Tiptoeing and with a smile on his lips, Yoojin just got closer to the Toseong senior and stared for seven seconds. When he realized the older male wasn’t going to wake up nor noticed his presence, he just dumped one heavy copy of a muggle magazine right beside the male’s head, rested on the desk.

Yoojin stared, hard.

He felt like judging the suseong student but it could come with a result he wasn’t too inclined to face, after all the other male was a quidditch player and he was pretty sure most people knew how much that was a very explosive combo if he had to take action.

So he just stared and wondered why in hell that guy would do that.

“This is going to sound controversial but I think that went well.”

Yoojin heard him say, humor in his voice but he wasn’t smiling; neither was the Hwaseong junior, that would just choose that moment to cross his arms and get closer, looking into the nearly black cauldron that smelled like rotten tomatoes and burnt sugar.

“Don’t make it weird!”, Yoojin heard Jaehyun complain for the third time and now he just turned around and crossed his arms, an annoyed expression gracing his baby features as he sighed; he was being beyond patient now, acting friendly with the other male because it was Halloween and it was his very favorite holiday ever but enough was enough.

“Stop it Jae...please”, he used a nickname and Yoojin hardly called people like that unless he was too intimate with them or if they allowed or if he was drunk (this could be an explanation, after all the pumpkin juice did taste weird(er) than usual). 

They were just about to cross the amazingly decorated school’s grounds and find the said outside movie theater when Jaehyun started to complain. At first Yoojin thought the toseong junior was just being picky about it, but as he didn’t give any further explanation, he started questioning himself, if he was making the situation weird for the two of them, if he was at fault; he hated his brain for that but it wasn’t something he could control.

“Look, it’s just two friends going to watch a movie. Ignore people saying it’s romantic or shit like that”, he offered him a smile, reserved and calm, unlike the way his brain kept yelling saying he was the problem.
