I saw a quote that said something along the lines, “you’re killing yourself at a job that would replace you within a week if you dropped dead, take care of yourself.” And it has haunted me since then. Right now I’m feeling so dejected and overworked and tired I don’t even know what to think. Because not only am I working myself to death if I was to drop dead I would be replaced but I would be talked about incesintly how it was my fault, I didn’t pull myself up by my bot straps enough I didn’t work hard enough at living and I deserved it. No would would care.

I tried to keep this off this blog I really did. My fathers still in the hospital. Three months now. I spend every day off with him and a lot of nights after work. I asked for one day off to deal with his next transfer and I was told no can’t have it can’t possibly make that change. I asked a week in advance. But no I was dented. Hire a nurse to move him they said. As if I’m made of money. Every one expects me to be this never stopping force. Cure my father. Take care of my mother. Solve the insurance issues. Solve the house issues. Fix my weird dog and be the only doctor working insane hours and all day every day. I work through every lunch I work past closing time every day. And every time I ask for a little help I get turned down. You can only get pushed down so many times before you don’t get back up again. I’m losing faith in humanity at this point. No one will help me. Coworkers don’t talk to me unless it’s to ask for favors or demand more work from me. Friends have stopped talking to me because who wants to talk to the girl with the sick father. My lawyer fired me. My mother’s perpetually having a panic attack. And my fathers not the man I’ve known for thirty years. I can’t do this much longer. And I’ve got no one to turn to. What do you do when you’re at the end of your rope and no one even cares that you’re there?

Does anyone have any advice or experience with running out of private health insurance coverage and trying to qualify for Medicaid (and how to make yourself qualify quickly) or how to appeal your insurance successfully?

The short of it is my fathers had a stroke he’s in out of inpatient rehab facility coverage and they are sending him home but he’s not yet safe to be home so they want us to pay for a I’m home nurse 12 hours a day which will bankrupt my mother and his insurance will only cover one month of physical therapy out patient and he needs a years worth. I need to get Medicaid but right now he doesn’t qualify. None of the social workers seem to be able to help me because he’s only 57. The full details can be found at my other blog

He will not qualify for Medicaid if he has over $2000 worth of assists (I think this is the amount). This means if he has stocks, bonds, IRAs,Roth IRAs, retirement, savings , land, etc He has to cash those out first. He can have a car and a house. I may not be 100% on this but I am not sure his wife is allowed to have those mentioned above (minus the car and house) either because they are married in the same home.

He can apply for disability but that is income based too. Once he qualifies for disability he can apply for Medicaid after two years.

You can apply for Medicaid now if he meets the income guidelines.

This is where our health system fails the aging population. I saw it every day when I worked with the adult population at the hospital. And recently with my grandmother and what my dad went though.

I’m sorry this is not much help but please feel free to message me with questions and I can ask the social workers I work with at the hospital.

I only know about my state, but usually there are two places you have to go to qualify. First you have to use the marketplace to determine eligibility. The marketplace will take AGES to transfer that eligibility info to your state’s health insurance agency. I was waiting over a year and a half with no results. What you want to do is first apply through the marketplace and then immediately look up the website for state health insurance in your state. Call them! They will be 100 times more helpful than the marketplace will be. The marketplace will just tell you to wait indefinitely, but your state’s insurance organization will get things done (if they’re anything like the people in my home state). I wrote that before looking at your full situation. I would think that the organization that determines Medicaid in your specific state will know a lot more about what you need to do than the marketplace will. A lawyer, like you’re looking into, is also a good idea.

If his income/assets are too high, I believe that in some states, he can still qualify for either Medicaid or Medicare (I don’t remember which) if he can prove he is long-term disabled. I couldn’t tell if the condition was long-term or short-term (like a few years with good treatment) from your posts. Again, this is going to vary state-by-state.

Thank you for the in site. I’m not actually sure if he’s long term of short term disabled. Honestly. It’s going to be at least a year before he can speak. 6 months for a year before he can walk and I have no projections on when his arm might move again. I don’t know what that qualifies him for. But we’re in New York so it’s looking pretty hard to get him on Medicaid quickly. But I’ll look into the organization that determines it see if they can help me since no one can seem to give me good answers as of yet.

i dont know if you still need help about the medicaid stuff but im on medicaid and medicare and honeslty its semi easy to get (atleast in missouri) so long as you show how much you make a month and your medical (and other) expenses if you go to your local family services or whatever they call it in your state they can even help you fill out the paperwork correctly and if i remember correctly theres a box saying you need it soon??

I meant to answer this to you but apparently tumblr had other thoughts. I’m trying to get my father on Medicaid. I keep being told that right now he doesn’t qualify because he owns property. And that it can take up to 6 months to a year to get him onto Medicaid. I’m in New York. I’m not sure if that changes things for me. I’m trying to figoure out how to push it though so he can get it immediately and also qualify. I’ve met with a lawyer but I havnt actually gone to a family service center maybe that’s the next step.
