So, I'm sure some of you folks have seen the articles reporting on Lesley-Ann Jones's new biography of Freddie Mercury and its ~revelation~ about Freddie having a Secret Daughter.
I'm going to go ahead and point out all the things - setting aside the pure fanfic-iness of the story; like, seriously, read what she says happened and TELL me that's not an AO3 or Wattpad summary field, lmao - that make this version of events... well, really Convenient, let's put it that way. Oh, and also not make any sense.
This daughter was allegedly conceived in 1976, which is about as late as you could manage in Freddie's life without having to factor the potential for HIV into the picture.
If the woman involved was the wife of a close friend, this helpfully explains why she was unable to just. beard for Freddie. If nothing else, his parents would have been fucking delighted and it could have made his life a bit easier on that front.
Unless these SEVENTEEN VOLUMES OF HANDWRITTEN JOURNALS NO ONE REMEMBERS FREDDIE WRITING (a point unto itself) were delivered to his daughter, like, one by one on completion or in a bundle before Freddie died, there is no fucking way, given that there was no provision for this (or literally anything about this child) in Freddie's will, that Mary Auction cheerfully complied with a verbal, non-legally binding instruction to hand the diaries over to another party. She didn't let Jim, Joe, or Phoebe leave the fucking house with anything she could conceivably dispute as their property! In what universe is she Totally Chill with Freddie's Secret Daughter???
I'm guessing that Paul Prenter was, during his tenure, close enough to Freddie and sufficiently involved in the logistics of Freddie's life that he would know about this kid. So... how did this not come up when he sold his story to The Sun??? Likewise, if Barbara Valentin was Freddie's bestest friend in the whole wide world and the Other Love of His Life (besides Mary, obviously, Hallowed Be Her Name), as LAJ has previously asserted when reporting Barbara's fever dreams as fact, surely she was aware??? And she didn't mention it to LAJ before because????
In addition to her absence from Freddie's will, @delumieres states - with receipts - that "B" is also nowhere to be found in either of Freddie's parents' wills.
She just like. DECIDED that David Bowie's mother had syphilis (!! ??) and that his eye anomaly was thereby congenital - even though there are literally pictures of him before the schoolyard fight that actually caused it where... he does not have it. (This is made Extra Insane bc she also purports to have been a childhood friend, so... why would you not know this??? Even I know this about David Bowie, and I do not know an awful lot about David Bowie.) (She is also super inclined to wait until people are dead to publish things they allegedly told her, like Bowie apparently confiding that he and Freddie had sex on a couple of occasions - and then no one can dispute it! Hm!)
(This is also why I don't rate her claims about things Linda told her in the '80s or whatever terribly highly.)
I would not inherently discount the possibility of Freddie Mercury having a kid out there somewhere, by the way - and I'm not saying that in a bi-truther sense. Back when Freddie was still trying to Not Be Gay, he did have sex (quite possibly unprotected) with women on the road, probably chiefly in the US and Europe. I think it's markedly less likely that, if such a child existed, he was aware of and/or terribly involved with it. The latter assertion is mostly due to the incredibly unlikely nature of every single person who had to be in on the secret (including people who subsequently told and/or sold their stories) keeping quiet for nearly 50 years. No one ever papped this girl who looked a bit like Freddie coming or going from Garden Lodge in the last years of his life, when the press were camped outside 24/7??? Is the implication also that "B" currently has no contact with Kash or any part of QPL??? And possibly never has??? (I would like to state for the record that, unless "B" was a real piece of work, I find it almost impossible to believe that Jer, Kash, and/or Brian would not have a desire for a relationship with any scintilla of Freddie left on this planet.)
