Can I get some advice? For months I've been writing a Teen Titans fanfic, but I'm not getting any traffic at all, and I can't help but compare my fic to a few fanfics in different fandoms with similar premises. I've been thinking about deleting it and reposting it in a different fandom category to get the numbers I want. Do you think it's a good idea?
Are you posting on FFnet or AO3?
For FFnet, I donβt know if changing the category would be a good idea because the website only lets you do the one category. So if your fic is in the TT cartoon universe then it needs to be there instead of the general dc comics category imo
On that note, if you are posting to FFnet, I wouldnβt be discouraged by lack of traction as many people have been migrating away from that website for those like AO3 or wattpad (β¦i think, donβt quote me about the latter because i donβt go there so i donβt know the population). Very few fandoms stay on FFnet, so youβll only get reviews from bots on most days
If your fanfic is on AO3, however, then you have the option of adding multiple fandom categories so that will give you better exposure. But make sure the tags do apply. For example, Teen Titans cartoon and DC comics are appropriate tags but I would not tag Young Justice if youβre not including elements from that show. There are some people on AO3 who abuse tags for the clicks and Iβm not a fan of that
No matter what you choose though, Anon, just remember not to compare yourself to others. If you try your best, and you know there are people reading, then that should be what matters. I know you want feedback (we all do) but you shouldnβt get inside your head and think your fic is less than others. Chances are there are people reading who enjoy what you write and are silently waiting for you to continue
also get weird about it on other sites. Like Tumblr. Describe it, drop the link, tag it. It's how I found some of my favorite fics.
