Season 3…. looks…. good I’m not going to lie
Someday in PJOverse i think there would one hundred trillion percent be a massive documentary (or several) made about Beryl Grace and her very public breakdown and suspicions around her death in the same way that there are about every celebrity death irl. We don’t exactly know how famous she was but I think it’s reasonable to say that she was extremely famous, and even if she was just a small time soap actress or something equivalent, then the mysterious disappearances of both her children followed by her untimely demise would almost certainly make her a lot more famous post-mortem. I do think it is not only interesting but reasonable that there are massive conspiracy theories about her and I think the possibility that there was foul play in her crash (from Hera!) would make this skyrocket. I think someone would assuredly discover the Beryl Grace to Piper McLean connection. And honestly Jason’s death makes this so much more huge and frankly traumatizing to the demigods.

rachel elizabeth dare has one of the best character introductions, like, ever, and i think my favorite part of it is that she uses her full name. first middle last. & like she's from new york so it's not cultural to go by a double first name, and elsewhere in the text she is only ever called "rachel," like that's her name that she actually goes by and elizabeth is very much her middle name. but when percy asks her, she's rachel elizabeth dare. obsessed w that. also obsessed that when she asks for his name he just says the first, like most people would in most circumstances, and she's so invested in his full name that she shouts after him, "what kind of name is percy gotta-go?" like i love this moment. she's so odd. what was the reason.
percy and annabeth are suffering from bad writing decisions and when the writing is so obviously bad (inconsistent or flat-out contradictory characterizations across different works, obvious downgrade in distinct personality traits and voices, plot developments that are outright retcons of previously established relationship patterns) i find it to be useless to hold fictional characters accountable for their actions.
like if i trusted that the story was actually coherent enough to analyze then i'd have a ton to say about how bad annabeth comes off in wottg. but like. i don't have enough faith in the writing to bother. like is it absolutely horrible for annabeth to sit there while her friends openly mock percy and not say a word to defend him. of course it is. but that doesn't mean it's now reasonable to characterize annabeth as a bad girlfriend. bc if you do that based on her behavior in this book then by the same logic you have to be willing to characterize grover as so childish that he can't be left unsupervised & say he's incapable of following basic instructions. you have to be willing to accept that percy has become so incompetent that he doesn't know how to lie to hecate. or that percy cannot manage to count to ten in spanish. but for some reason you don't see anybody doing that, lol. saying annabeth is a bad gf in wottg is like. you literally may as well be writing hate posts about grover drinking the strawberry milksake. like the book is so bad that it legitimately does not deserve the time of day.
& i see this same pattern in a lot of hoo too, like ppl pick and choose when to take the writing seriously based on what they enjoy criticizing. like if you think it's absolutely unreasonable and horrible writing for percy to tell jason that he legit gave up on fighting because he thought he deserved to die and for that conversation to be sideswept as if this isn't alarming. then you can have that EXACT same energy for annabeth confessing to piper that she's scared of percy, lol. like both conversations are insane and it is bad writing in both instances to introduce these wildly alarming concepts and then just push them aside. but we're gonna hold annabeth accountable for this standard and not consider that her writing is absolutely flaming trash in boo. that's silly.
like sure if you want to just take canon at face value then annabeth is a bad girlfriend. but honestly? who is actually analyzing the literary value of these books and simultaneously able to take canon at face value ?even if you try to do that, the writing is SO bad in points that it is literally impossible to fully accept rick's canon. things blatantly contradict each other, so you are quite literally forced at points to pick the version of events that you consider canon. all this to say that annabeth as established in pjo literally punches someone in the face for bullying percy & so idk who rick is writing about in wottg. some other person, i guess.
when it comes to ppl being critical of annabeth in relation to percabeth i do feel like it's kind of an uncanny valley situation for me because the expectations are just like. so different from what you encounter in like the rest of the internet and the world at large. there is so much about her behavior that just blatantly reads to me as 'this is how teenage girls act when they are down bad from a crush.' like not communicating well, panic insulting, random flirting followed by emotionally shutting down, conversations that circle around naming what's between you activating your fight or flight response, getting your expectations super high and then being in a horrible mood when they're not met........... like can we acknowledge that crushes make perfectly lovely people act legitimately insane sometimes. has anyone seen those reels that are like 'how i act when i'm interested vs. how i act when i'm not interested'? like that's legitimately annabeth with percy for like half the series i swear

this is some of the most obvious flirting i have ever observed in my life and immediately afterward i'm telling you it is COMPLETELY equivalent to 'sending a flirty text and then flinging your phone to the other side of the room and pretending that you're not too afraid to look at the response by distracting yourself with other activities'

Hi! I wanted to say Hi :). I have been devouring and queuing your posts for the past few weeks (great stuff). At first I was a bit turned off because of the Percabeth support but I was super happy to see your positive take on alternate ships like Perachel. However, I was even happier to see you were Christian! At least it seemed so in your post about the pjo gods. It's always awesome to see Christians in fanspaces!
what a lovely ask to get! ironically enough while i have been so vocal of late in writing about how p&a are an iconic couple (and i do think they are) i also fully understand the distaste for them and have myself had many years of not liking them for various questionable writing decisions, and it's honestly part of why i've given them so much thought (like Why is this couple so polarizing and yet so wildly popular. where does the buzz come from. bc it's definitely there). but the writing downgrade from pjo to hoo to everything that came after would frankly make it impossible for me to enjoy them as a couple if i cared to engage with canon, if that makes sense lol. even in pjo i definitely think there are some annoying things about them & annabeth used to REALLY get on my nerves when i was her age, but i think looking back it's tough for me to be too critical on any of them because it's like. i mean they really are just kids & it really is just a middle-aged dude writing about the absolute horror show that is navigating crushes and new relationships, i think often based on things he was observing when he was teaching middle schoolers. and like looking back on pjo so much of the characters' behavior is just so relatable to what going through middle and high school was like (at least for me) that i feel like ppl do need to be better at acknowledging that the characters act in messy ways primarily because they're young and not because they're bad people, if that makes sense.
but all that being said i've always been & will continue to find other ships compelling! and since percabeth is so wildly popular i often do enjoy writing about like perachel more because less has been said about them.
& yes i am a Christian! this is so kind!
the thing abt pjo is it's really not unique in its concept of heroism, which is why the journey of percy is like identical to the journey of hercules in the disney movie or perseus in clash of the titans 2010, like somewhere along the way we decided that it was very virtuous and chic to turn down immortality and that it exposes the inner moral fiber of the character. cue achilles speech from troy 2004 about how the gods envy us. i think pjo's strength is that it doesn't try to superimpose this very modern concept back onto ancient greece and act like it makes any sense for characters to do or say that. like percy acts like a modern american because that's what he is. groundbreaking!
percy really is the embodiment of 'i am both dumber and smarter than you think. never estimate me.'
i just love that perachel is a ship that clings on despite the fact that it was literally at no point ever popular. it was really funny because i swear in 2009 you would see like one trillion posts hating on rachel and making fun of perachel shippers and it was like, a completely imagined enemy. like there WAS no perachel faction lol. it felt like maybe two people found the dynamic compelling but literally everyone always knew he was ending up with annabeth. everyone just acted like this was the equivalent of team jacob vs team edward or gale vs peeta but it never was. and yet in 2026 the perachel tag has become active. i love it
i just want everyone to know that 'kronos wanted to use percy's body' is not just a good fan theory it is a canon-established truth and kronos told percy that to his face <3

percy and rachel is for the jacob and bella truthers and the brooke and lucas truthers. not in the fact that they're really similar at all but in the fact that the chemistry popped off so severely and nobody could deny it so the writers had to decimate them completely
to me i love love love the concept of percy and piper being besties particularly after a percabeth breakup. i think it's because canon pushes the idea so hard that they don't like each other and i don't acccept that. it's like deciding to like drew tanaka. the harder you try to convince me they aren't friends the more i'm going to make them friends.
