can we just talk?
lando on mental health (2019-2025)
since it's mental health awareness week i thought it would be nice to make something a bit different centred around it.
so this big post is basically a compilation of moments where lando has spoken openly about mental health, pressure, difficult periods and the importance of reaching out for help and seeking support.
a lot of people here look up to him or connect with/value what he says in some way, and even if i know nobody's experiences are ever identical, hearing someone put difficult feelings into words can sometimes help others feel understood or less isolated in what they're dealing with too.

zooming out and looking at lando's career results so far in their entirety is so compelling to me, like i've done it many times, and it's been the basis for my faith in him all year long. there is a clear maturation of both himself as a driver, the team, and the car, all ramping up to 2025's tremendous run of form.
his rookie year was rough with DNFs (pink), often out of the points (purple), as the car was nowhere and he was still finding his feet, but by his second year, he had a podium and was very consistently in the points (green). he spent those formative years in the midfield, bringing in points without often getting on the podium.
he had his moments even then, like he nearly had the win at monza 2021, and he was so close to a win at sochi 2021 too, earning his first pole position, but it wasn't his time yet. he spent 2022 delivering solid points while his teammate struggled, he was consistent. he helped advance mclaren up the standings, developing the car, on the cusp of the next level.
it all took a backwards turn early 2023 with the roughest patch of his career since 2019, the car wasn't quick, but they fixed it. things came together at silverstone, and haven't truly slid back since. the rest of that year had six p2s (silver) and one p3 (bronze). it all pointed towards him being ready for his first win (gold), which he got early the next year.
he had four wins and nine other podiums in 2024, ending up second in the wdc and leading the team to winning the first constructors in a very long time, a season protagonist. this year has followed on that path, with some struggles, but the team have been unbelievably dominant. despite all his issues, so far he's been on the podium at sixteen circuits, winning six times.
there's a very clear trajectory here, a story visible in the data that i've followed closely in real time, the rise of a team, a car, and a driver all together. he's no longer the funny boy he was when he signed, so talented and so young; he's learned so much and developed into a man who is writing his name in the record books, his win count climbing up among the legends of the sport.
he doesn't care about his legacy allegedly, but i do, and he has a story of struggle and success that is far from over. if you know anything about the ten years he's driven single seaters, seven of which have been honing his craft on the f1 grid, i think you cannot deem him unworthy of his achievements this year. i cannot wait to see where he goes from here :)

Literally any other driver wins/gets pole: pure skill, pure class, so talented and skilled omg
Lando gets a RECORD BREAKING lap time and gets on pole: he got lucky he’s in a rocketship
Real time representation of the absolute CLOWNERY that is f1 and its fans and how forced the Lando hate is lmao. Mans has been on every podium except 1 race btw so far this year. The only qualis that went super bad for him happened due to unfortunate circumstances. He’s lost wins/higher podium placements due to shit pitstops and strat. He made mistakes but always made up places in every race. He won literally the most chaotic and disastrous first race of the year from pole despite almost losing position. He’s driving a car that does not work with him and that has its plethora of issues and he’s driving it consistently to podiums despite having trouble with it. He’s under an insane level of hate just for existing atp but he still wears a smile on his face and spreads awareness for mental health and is OPEN about his struggles (that all your favs experience) and is one of the kindest drivers on the grid.
Yea lets hate him and undermine his achievements lol. U can argue its the car for literally everyone who wins—news flash, the cars perform differently depending on the track and mclaren are nowhere near the dominance that was the 2023 rb car!! The teams are much closer this year and the points prove it. So even if mclaren are a “rocketship” in some races that doesn’t take away from any of lando’s (or oscar’s) wins! If ur of the mindset that lando got “lucky” with the pole than ur just very delusional and hey, if that justification helps u sleep at night, all i can say is u do u and continue living in ur whole ass circus.
I feel like there aren't enough people are talking about that Lando vs George battle.
Haters love to yell that Lando isn’t aggressive enough, doesn’t go for it, plays it too safe. But he was glued to George’s rear wing. Had him sweating about his tyres the entire time.
Lando was relentless. Smart, clean, and aggressive. George definitely held his own, but Lando had that dog in him the whole time.
Just because he’s not dramatic about it doesn’t mean he isn’t lethal on track. He said he wanted to have fun this weekend, and honestly? He looked like he was having the time of his life out there.
