They sleep gently in my palm

The gasp of venus, glow of mars

By turns turbulent and calm

I trace constellated memories

I map them, salve against sorrow

Dancing silver in the trees

Is the ache of my tomorrow

Since every moment's slippery

A fish jumping from my hand

These moments are never free

Now I finally understand

I built a fortress in my head

A thorny thicket in my mind

I poisoned forests with my dread

It is shameful to be human, isn’t it?

To weep and lie, scream for anger,

fingernails clenching fabric and crows landing.

To be vulnerable and hungry,

flattened teeth carving through human skin.

To succumb to sadness and vulnerability,

shamefully comforting yourself in half-hearted repentance.

To smile with those around, loving selfishly,

Fleeting kisses and nights only spent once.

To sin, whether without knowledge or care,

Hurting those around us and being hurt in return.

It is wonderful to be human, isn’t it?
