I want to boost everything this person has said and add on.
The reason I call myself a tomboy now, despite it being seen as a childish word and having had someone swear at me over it because âtHeReâS nO suCh thInG as BoY thInGs anD giRL thIngS sHut uPâ is because I couldnât call myself that or be like that when I was a kid. It was seen as a negative thing and I was already bullied enough. âLooking like a boyâ was the worst thing that could happen to a girl.
And Iâm not even 26 yet. We arenât talking 30+ years ago, we are talking 2000s and even 2010s. Itâs only since trans people have become more accepted in the past few years that gender nonconformity has too.
And the people who helped me accept my gender nonconformity more than anyone else? Were trans people. They taught me, âthereâs nothing wrong with how you feel. Youâre still a valid woman no matter what you wear, how you have your hair or what youâre into â¤ď¸â
And donât even get me started on how people treat gender nonconforming men. JK Rowling has a lot of nerve to be like âuwu boys can wear dresses and only us gendercrits accept that!â when she has, even in recent works, made femininity in men a negative trait, as well as making masculinity in women a negative trait also.
A lot of people still donât accept gnc people even now. Just last year I had someone tell me theyâd never let their daughter âdress like a boyâ, and Iâm always terrified to walk into a bathroom in case the next JK Rowling is in there, sees my gender expression and pepper sprays me or worse.
âThereâs no such thing as boy things and girl things.â I donât need to be told that and Iâm sure 99% of trans people also donât need to be told that. Tell that to the society that hates us both instead of actively encouraging that hate.
Gonna point out the og tweet thread is now full of terfs saying that life was better for gay people in the fucking 80s, that it was super easy for them to be a tomboy in the 70s and 80s and therefore it must have been that way for everyone, and that it was totally acceptable to be a gnc gay person in the 80s! đ¤Ş
Theyâre rewriting history as we speak to try to argue trans acceptance is making it harder to be gay and gnc for youth than it was to be gay in the 80s. This is a blatant lie.
The fucking 80s??? As in, âaids crisisâ 80s?? As in, âthe government actively avoided funding research to help gay peopleâ 80s????
Man I knew terfism was brain rot but I didnât think it was this bad.
Actually I'm not going to just keep this in the tags
as someone who was there that is finest grade bullshit
the scariest thing about old tv isnt really the racism or the sexisim because you kinda go in braced for that it's all the scenes where suddenly an actress is holding a lion cub or a chimpanzee is in the same room as a toddler, or suddenly theres a lion, or there's a chimpanzee again but it's driving a car, or holding a lighter, or holding fireworks. You just kind of watch in horror as over and over an actress performs with only 1960s tv film shootings best animal handling between her and the opening to Nope.
This is how I learn that the famous chimp my dad got my nickname from tried to kill Reagan. Fuck yeah.
my dad's wildlife photography would do numbers on here
ok permission granted everyone look at this fat sandpiper
Iâm glad that OP:
1) Figured this out.
2) Shared so others can learn from their mistake.
We would fully accept any Japanese buckaroo
Foreigners will never understand how someone like Rawhide Kobayashi would immediately become a beloved local fixture in whatever small American town he ended up in.
every single time someone pulls the "How would you AMERICANS like it if someone came to AMERICA and" reversal, the answer is always "we'd fucking love it"
@kurtwagnermorelikekurtwagnerd
Your tags summed up the exact feeling I had about this
I just Googled the Swedish-Japanese guy in the OP, and according to this interview, his Japanese name was given to him by the master gardener he was apprenticed under:
âThe family name âMurasameâ was given to me by my master. The given name âTatsumasaâ is a combination of âdragonâ (tatsu), the [zodiac] year when I was born, and one character from my masterâs name,â says Murasame."
So I think maybe it's less like naming yourself 'Brandon McFreedom' and more like moving to the states to work under a veteran car mechanic named Bud McLean, and then having him turn to you after a few years on the job, and say "Son, it's time for you to become an American so you can open up your shop. And when that day comes, I think the world should know you by a new name: McLeo GM Corvette."
Named by his superior by conventions one would apply to a super chill stray cat

For anyone wondering, the PhD student's name is Myra Cheng.
Here's a link to an article about the study from the Stanford Report: link.
Across three preregistered studies, participants interacting with sycophantic AI became more convinced of their own rightness and less willing to repair relationships. Yet at the same time, participants rated sycophantic AI models as higher quality, more trustworthy, and more desirable for future use, which may explain why this behavior has persisted despite its harmful impacts.
Myra Cheng et al. "Sycophantic AI decreases prosocial intentions and promotes dependence." Science 391, eaec8352 (2026).
if you build âcommunityâ around hating other people, just know that the second you step out of lineâregardless of your moral uprightness or the hypocrisy on their partâyouâre the next person theyâre going to tear to pieces.
And by the way it doesnât matter if you claim your community is âproâ something if the main actual behavior of the group is hating the thing labeled as the enemy of the thing you are âin supportâ of.
As an example, a lot of groups claim to be âpro-womenâ, when in reality they are actually anti-trans. Their goal is not to uplift women, itâs to harass and criminalize trans people.
So inspect the groups youâre in. Ignore the name of the movement. What are the people in your group actually DOING?
great work everyone hit the bathhouse

The woman says "Ridiculous..."
If you want to spread it elsewhere, here's the official link
[Video Description: An ad with piano music over it all, showing an elderly woman in her home, knitting, when two younger men walk by her window, which catches her attention. She stares out her window at them as they kiss each other while walking, the old lady staring in disbelief. Cut to the old woman approaching a residence with a broom in hand, staring up at the second floor window where a small rainbow Pride flag is hanging. The old woman stares up at it and mutters "Ridiculo", before getting up on a ladder with her broom to remove the flag. Focus on the flag fluttering to the ground as church bells chime. The scene then cuts to the couple from before, approaching their home with grocery bags in hand before one stops and stares at the second floor, stopping his partner who then drops the groceries as he too stares up. It's then revealed that the small pride flag had been replaced with a gigantic, hand-knit pride flag. It then cuts back to the old woman's home, where a tin of rainbow-colored yarn sits on her table. The hands of the old woman are holding and fondly touching an old black and white photo of two young smiling women, leaning against each other. Cut to the old woman's face as she stares out with a look of happy pride on her face. At the end of the video, the name "Idealista" appears on screen, followed by "buon pride" along with a rainbow. End VD.]
One correction:
The old lady is not in her home. She is at work. She's meant to be what in Italian is called "la portinaia", aka a cross between a doorwoman and cleaner of a residential building. She's in her small "office" space, at the entrance of the building, from where she can survey the coming and goings of the inhabitants. It's a job that has mostly disappeared, but is culturally very clear to us as having the connotation of "potentially gossipy, one-million-percent judgmental woman who sees everything that goes on in the apartment complex, knows everyone and their secrets, and has Strong Opinionsâ˘ď¸".
In this case, thankfully, the Strong Opinionâ˘ď¸ is that those two men are ridiculous with their teeny tiny flag for ants.

CORRECTION: it's a MINIMUM of two years. generally it's 100% of your wage in the first year, 70% in the second.
a dutch employer must also:
refrain from asking medical details. all they have a right to know is that you cannot work, the aspects of work that you cannot perform, and whether you're making efforts to recover
provide open consultations with a doctor specialised in occupational health
(partially) cover the costs of treatments that'll help you get back to work quicker and more sustainably
make efforts to prevent illnesses due to work (including burn-out and repetitive strain injuries)
provide temporary or permanent alternative working conditions (e.g., fewer hours, different tasks, ergonomic tools) if it's impossible or hazardous to the employee's health to (fully) return to their regular work and working conditions
provide assistance in finding an alternative employer if no suitable alternative work can be found within the organisation
the exact details can differ based on union agreements, the size of the organisation, specific contracts, and what have you. but this is the baseline for contractual permanent positions by law.
partially sharing because i have a lot of dutch followers this may sooner or later apply to, and partially to show the true extent of what's possible.
the dutch system is set up so that people can focus on recovery and making a healthy and sustainable return to work. in practice there's plenty of room for improvements on those fronts. but all in all, it's been shown to be more cost-effective than a continuous rotation of people getting more and more ill due to work until they reach a breaking point and have to recover for far longer than if those people had had the opportunity to recover at an earlier stage.
Dont worry the Dutch system is being actively destroyed by our america-loving right-wing parties, mainly the liberals, VVD, with help from their christian and fascist friends.
& Dutch bosses/companies are still gonna be shitty in whatever way they can, including but not limited to:
Forcing you to attend consultations with a company doctor, pushing you to travel to attend your consultations.
Trying to get information about your illness from the company doctor (= illegal!).
Interpreting company doctor reports about your capabilities in bad faith, trying to force you to do more work than you can, etc.
Guilt-tripping you if you don't recover fast enough.
Trying to blame your 'lifestyle'.
If you think you are being fucked with by your boss: check your contract, check your CAO, and ASK YOUR UNION.
#The Dutch have a pretty solid history of labor organizing and socialist resistance #so I give 'em good odds at fighting off the neo-liberal import
We're trying our best mate, but we've had nothing but right wing governments for the last 24 years. Union organizing is alive and kicking and there are some victories, but so much is constantly being destroyed that it feels a lot like 2 steps forward, 3 steps back, over and over for 24 years in a row.
I do think the ability to emoji-react is a net win for human communication. not only does it give you an outlet for 'I see and acknowledge this but don't have a verbal response' but it also adds a pleasing alethiometer element to things
my coworker announces that he's off to the dentist. someone reacts with a tooth emoji. is this a statement of dentist solidarity? a wish for my coworker to return with more (or fewer?) teeth than he set out with? simple word association? who can say
