The short and simple answer is that i like villains and i like messy bad relationships lol. I also really like their interactions in canon, like they’re just funny together. They’re both kinda posh British men who are very prim and proper but they have these snappy little arguments that are just so cute aldkfja. Elias going “oh don’t be so dramatic jon” is never not funny to me. Also when elias says moments later that he wouldn’t be able to replace jon so easily and jon instantly straightens up and is like “…well thank you” is so cute aldfjka. Oh oh also the bit where elias asks jon to defend him from melanie then goes “thank you jon” all sincere only to be immediately shut down aldfjasdkfj its great. There’s also an air of jon wanting to impress elias early in s1 that is very endearing.

Also just like, all the drama and horror and manipulation, like its so dramatic. Like obviously this is where the interpretive side of it comes in, but i love elias like, religiously worshiping jon. By the end of it, they’ve forged this connection that only they share, and whether jon likes it or not, elias understands him where his mortal friends can’t. It’s like, two people corrupting each other and falling farther away from their humanity, its just so isolating and sad. I think that’s at the core of what i like about the ship, its sad. Like its completely doomed no matter how you look at it —elias will never love jon more than he fears death and worships his god, and jon will never willingly give up his empathy to follow elias (unless you’re going super bad end which hey I’m here for it) even if he loves him. Like the idea that maybe if everything was different, then maybe they could’ve been happy, aaaaaa its so sad :’|

Also Elias’s last words to jon being “good luck” as he bleeds out from the stab wounds jon just inflicted on him aaaaaaaaaaa!!!!! god the drama of it all!!! Just tell him you love him already this is embarrassing!!!!!

Platonic, romantic, whatever you like - barring hateful content, everything is more than allowed and greatly encouraged.

At this, Jon actually rolls his eyes. “Right,” he says sarcastically. “No way to connect with the youth in your grand old age of – what, fourty-five? Fifty?”

Elias’ smile deepens. “You flatter me, Jon.”

He actually sounds amused, and Jon cannot resist. “Fifty-five?”

“At my age, we don’t count the years anymore,” Elias retorts, eyes bright.

Jon takes it exactly for what it is: a challenge. Elias won’t tell him – but he’s assuming Jon will find out anyway. It’s a ridiculously easy challenge; in this day and age, your birth date is hardly a difficult information to find. But it thrills him all the same. And even if somehow Elias had made it harder to gather, well, Jon’s a researcher. He could ask Sasha and he knows he won’t.

“They’re wrong, anyway,” he says, impulsively.

Elias raises his eyebrows. “About what?”

“You’re not boring,” Jon says. “Nobody else in this Institute knows as much as you do about… everything.”

It was incredibly rare, Jon had found, to catch Elias by surprise. He’d only managed once or twice before, and even then he wasn’t certain Elias hadn’t pretended to be surprised more than anything. Right then, though, something crosses Elias’ eyes, sharp and fleeting, that roots Jon to his chair.

As for Jon being thin, it’s not like people started from “Jon is hot” and then translated that to “Jon is thin.”  I think your sights would be better set on depictions of Tim being universally trim and muscular for that one.  I am 100% for variety in body design for Jon, but after a solid season of a starvation metaphor for him (which resulted in Daisy being visibly scrawny) it’s understandable why a lot of people came away with a thin and frail mental image of him.  That preceded the “hot Jon” backlash.  I don’t expect everyone to have a solid grasp of fandom history, but these are two completely separate trends.
