CORVID (cor·vid, noun) — from corvus, 'raven' or 'crow.' Forgotten druidic traditions hold the corvid as a threshold creature: a bridge between the living and the dead. Others name them tricksters, omens, shadows, thieves. Though others think of them as birds, and nothing more.
Astarion didn't intend for this to happen. It was supposed to be one night to feel normal, anonymous, just another face in some grime-ridden poor excuse for a tavern. And then there was a gnome, gods help him. A gnome with a voice she had no business having, a face he couldn't look away from, and a body that - no. No. Absolutely not. And yet, two years after saving this godsdamned city, he found the only person who would change his unlife enough to make it feel like something he lived in instead of survived through.

So, a big scene in my fic (not for A WHILE in terms of being published) is going to be taking place here. And I needed references for writing it well, so, behold - my image references. Enjoy and may the Crying God help u endure~
SO I have a lot of thoughts about what Larian (and subsequently, WotC) decided to keep in the final game and what they neglected. I have been writing fics that I've kept (and likely will) keep to myself as a way to explore the characters of all of the spawn we get to see. Which, is, like weirdly minimal. But, as a result of like research and everything, I've invented an absurd amount of background nonsense.
However, I do have things that are canon that I keep in little txt files for writing reference. For instance - all the dialogue I have been able to reasonably track down for each spawn we find (THAT DOES INCLUDE THE ONES IN CELLS).
And, idk, thought it would be nice to share with the world as a whole. ENJOY (below the cut). It might not be everything that has been datamined, but it's what I've found through the course of my obsessive googling. And, again, I emphasize this is not exhaustive. It's just what I've personally been able to find.
AURELIA
"Peace, brother, we're here to take you home."
"Much as we'd love to, the master's orders were very specific."
"Master Cazador has known where Astarion was this entire time. He knew he would return. The Rite…the master needs him. He must attend."
"Perhaps we can get back at Cazador, and finish the ritual. The seven can unite."
"The bond's hold! He owns us! We have no choice, we must obey. Get out of here, Astarion, before…"
"My…head. Do I know you? Why are your features a smear across your face?"
"The master is dead…I can't come to grips with it. Now what? What now?!"
LEON
"The master needs all seven of us for the ceremony. Come with us and be reborn. We'll live again!"
"The master said 'no witnesses'."
"Better? What do you mean 'better'?"
"You're free of him? Petras was right - you've changed. Maybe you could complete the ritual. Maybe you could free us."
"What's happening? Where's the master?"
"Can't think…can't get rid of his voice…"
PETRAS
"Hello beautiful, I didn't see you there."
"Hello, beautiful, aren't you a sight to behold!"
"You must excuse my sister, she's a terrible bore! But you look like someone who enjoys a party! There's a celebration being held in the palace of Cazador Szarr! Why not join us?"
"You should come! It'll be the talk of Baldur's Gate."
"Thank goodness we're such good friends, then!"
"Ah, yes, dear sister, I know we have places to be. We'll leave once our good friends here have departed!"
"I look forward to seeing you at the palace, though. It'll be a once in a lifetime experience, I promise."
"Soon, sister. I only need one more mark."
"It's not for the master, it's for me! I spent one hundred years eating rats and dogs, but soon I'll be able to feast! I want someone there, ready for me. And once the Mass is done and our lord grants us our freedom, I can celebrate by drinking them dry."
"Isn't it obvious, sister? He wants to ascend with the rest of us. He heard about the ritual and the power our master will grant us, so he came back with his tail between his legs, hoping all would be forgiven."
"What the hells happened to you, Astarion? What ARE you?!"
"Where is he?! What have you done?"
"I've never seen him bleed before…I didn't know it was possible."
DALYRIA
"You must excuse my brother. He forgets that we have a very pressing engagement!"
"We were just discussing a…celebration being held in the palace of Cazador Szarr."
"This is not the time, Petras!
"Can we go now, brother? Have you been rejected enough?"
"Oh, I'm sure he has plans. But I wouldn't dare guess at them."
"We should go. I do not want to face the master if we're late for his Black Mass."
"We have enough for the master! No more are needed!"
"Astarion?! It…it cannot be! Why would you come back? You got out -- you were free!"
After Astarion drags Petras into the sun - "NO! Brother! Please!"
"The master is preparing the Black Mass. Beneath his palace. There's a defiled chapel - it was hidden there the entire time. Hidden from us all!"
"Is he resting? Will the master rise again?"
"What's happening? Where's the master?"
VIOLET
"Cazador is dust, and Violet blooms! I shall live as a permanent rebuke to all that monster stood for!"
"Praise Kelemvor! I died a thousand times, yet somehow, I live!"
"Cazador dead, and I alive! I'm giddy! I'm giddy with…glee!"
YOUSEN
"Am I alive? I'm alive! Hahahahahaha! But oh, oh, oh, for how long?"
"Cazador, dead. I was his slave for only sixty years, but it seems like an eternity."
"Agh! I feel like I gargled a straight razor. But to feel anything is wonderful…wonderful!"
THE CAGED SPAWN
SEBASTIAN
"You…I know you. You're the one from the tavern. You smiled and joked and got me drunk."
"You called me so many sweet things. My name sounded like a lyric on your tongue"
"You remember me."
"You taught me how. And then you destroyed me."
"How long?"
"How long have I been down here."
"My family…my friends…they're gone. You took them from me - you took everything from me."
"Help. Help? There's no helping us while that monster lives."
"You can't. It's not possible."
"You can't stop him. No one can stop him."
"Free? We'll never be free while that monster lives."
"And then? What happens to us?"
"Free from this nightmare? It doesn't feel possible."
"Whatever you do, just do it quickly. I can't go on waiting."
"Kill him? That monster? You can't. It's not possible."
"The grand chamber, just ahead. But even if you can kill him - what then? What happens to us?"
"His staff. It controls everything. But he never sets it down - you'll never get it."
"I - I don't know. It's all I've ever felt."
"There's no escape. No escape for us. And no escape for you - Astarion."
WENSLEYDALE
"No! Please, master! Not again, master!"
"I'm sorry, master, I'm so sorry."
GONDLEMEAD
"Days. Months. Years. They're all the same."
he stands silently, staring intently at nothing
HAPDIM
"You're a dream…you must be."
"I have the strangest dreams. The worst nightmares."
CHESSA
"hey - hey you - come closer."
"It IS you! I knew it! I'll kill you, once I get out of here, I'LL KILL YOU!"
"If I ever get out of here you'll wish you'd died when you were bitten!"
"I'm hungry. Starved. And it's all because of him! Didn't he tell you? He's the one that kidnapped us! He's the reason we're SPAWNS! I'LL KILL YOU!"
"Camp - camp. Monster hunsters. The Gur camp. OH GODS! My parents camp! Chessa focus - resist the beast inside you - you promised! It's YOUR fault! You did this to us!"
"Parents? You've seen my parents?"
"I miss them - I think. Or perhaps it's the hunger. I don't know - it's so hard to tell. You should go. Leave us here. We shouldn't be out there - we'd hurt our families."
"I don't think I'll ever be able to go home. Not like this."
"Tell them - tell them you couldn't find us."
"Rats - great idea, why didn't I think of that? I'll just find the hundred rats I'd need to even make a dent in this hunger."
"You - you really mean it? Cazador's got this staff. It controls the doors. If you get it, you could set everyone free. IF you get it, somehow."
"Good luck - if you fail, well, I suppose we'll be seeing you again in here."
"Please - whatever you could do."
KASS
"I never knew vampires were so fast. They took us before I knew what was happening! I should've trained harder! I should've protected the others…"
VANJA
"Why did they bring us here? Why did they do this to us?"
"I just want to go home…"
MISHA
"This place is full of monsters! When my family comes for us, we'll kill them all!"
"They'll be here soon. They'll come for us."
ANDRIK
"I feel cold. I've never felt so cold."
"Everyone's skin feels like ice."

I need to get into video editing again. I have this glorious vision in my weird brain for a mashup video of Astarion with the song Ascensionism by Sleep Token (that fits far too well) woven through it. Like, idfk if I would even be able to post it anywhere bc copyright, but I just wanna make it for me, man.
So one fun tragic thing is that I have stupid BG3 Bardcore songs looping in my head right now and it has made writing prose A TRUE STRUGGLE.
Like I'm sitting here trying to keep as accurate to Astarion's voice as possible and in my head all I'm hearing is:
OHHHHH I FELL IN LOVE WITH A BEAR. OHHHHH BECAUSE HE'S TENDER AND HE CARES. OHHHHHHHHH AND HE'S GOT REALLY NICE HAIR! WOOOAH-OH I FELL IN LOVE WITH A BEAR!
And this is my life. Thank you for listening to my tragic tale.

More of my screenshots (mostly with photo mode) from BG3 - nice and atmospheric. I think initially I started doing this bc I wanted to have a better frame of reference while writing. And it still helps - like when you think about Astarion remembering things or having flashbacks, looking at all the pics I took is useful. Like - when he was forced into the boudoir - what did he space out and focus on? When he was in the kennel - what might that have smelled like? When he saw the Tourmaline Depths for the first time - not just from the perspective that we all saw it, what might the whole atmosphere have felt like?
But also, ngl, after me and the gang (aka Astarion) killed Cazador, I went back to the palace with Karlach & Minsc and looted EVERYTHING that was within reach. It's gonna fester anyway, right? So why not like...get rich?

Some of my fave random screenshots from my (only completed...) playthrough of my Tav (forest gnome Circle of Spores druid) and everyone's fave pale elf. There is a fic that I started writing about my Tav and Astarion but fucking hell did I not know much about lore when I wrote it. I was just like "ah, yes, my vampire boyfriend, excellent, perfect, beautiful. He shall turn me into a vampire too and we will live happily ever after forever the end".
Most likely because my first and only completed BG3 playthrough started in 2023 and ended in LATE 2025. And then, ofc, I learned about LORE. And actually went and rewatched scenes, replayed some scenes (you know exactly which scenes I'm talking about, don't come for me) from save files, looked through Astarion's extracted dialogue files, listened to the like 10 hours of just Astarion lines on youtube probably 4 or 20 times, not sure at this point, and just let myself get lost in the BG3 wiki and the FR wiki for like a disgusting amount of time.
BUT. That first fic, about this Tav actually did give me some minor plot points and OCs who will show up in that lovely fic of mine that is very badly in progress (in terms of prose, not as bad in terms of plot, that's all in a giant txt file outline I wrote in my notes app on my dang phone). So, not all was lost.
But like. C'mon. Astarion with a gnome. It's gold.
