Tales from LarchClan

Three young cats picked their way through the dark streets of the city, exhaustion and elation evident in all three of their countenances. They chattered among themselves, having to raise their voices each time a car passed their little group.

Leading the way was the smallest of their trio, and the one with seemingly the most energy out of the three, though even her striped tail was beginning to droop. "It's not much further guys, I promise," the gray spotted tortie called over her shoulder to the two dutifully following, her silver eyes flashing in the light of the street lamps.

Next in line, the dark-furred bengal flashed a smile to her friend, ignoring the ache of her paws in favor of focusing on the bright future ahead. "We're okay, Auburnpaw," she said softly, her tail curling around the shoulders of the last apprentice, who had begun to trail behind.

A tired purr rumbled in the last molly's chest at the gentle contact from her friend. The blue-eyed ginger cat nodded in agreement. "It will all be worth it once we've made it to where we need to be. Until then, Charredpaw is right. What's a little exhaustion?" Despite her words, it was clear that she was more anxious than the other two, flinching at the noises that were so unfamiliar in her ears.

Auburnpaw was almost swept away by her appreciation for the two who had followed her here. They had been born in the clan they'd left, unlike her, and yet they still followed her out here. They still believed, just as she did, that they could build something better. "Thank you, you two," she mewed with a flick of her tail. "Especially you, Ibispaw. I know you've never been in the city before, unlike me and Char. I know it can be overwhelming, but you're doing really well." She was pleased to see Ibispaw perk up at the words out of the corner of her eye.

A flash of color ahead caught her eye, and excitement flashed through her in an energizing bolt. "We're here!" she cried, suddenly breaking into a run, barely even hearing the shouts of surprise from her companions as they were forced to pick up their pace to follow. She turned the corner and skidded to a stop. Ahead of her, a patch of greenery sprawled, trees with multicolored lights strung up between them and sheltering bushes swaying in the late night wind. She could hear gasps as her companions caught up and took in the sight of their new home. It was small in comparison to the dry plains they'd left behind, of course, but when set in between towering buildings and crowded streets, it was a haven.

Charredpaw padded onto the grass, slipping easily under the fence that separated it from the rest of the city. She sniffed the air, the scent of leaves and bark welcome after so much of only the gray scents of human civilization. She turned with a wide grin on her face, eyes locking with Auburnpaw's. "You were right, Aub. This will be perfect for a camp." The tortoiseshell puffed up her chest smugly, but before she could respond, the youngest of the three spoke.

"Yes," Ibispaw murmured, the tickle of grass against her paws grounding her. It had been a hard journey, but here was the fruits of their labor. "Yes, this is wonderful. This is exactly where we're supposed to be. Destiny's landing, the place of a new day."
