A Beating Heart in a Clockwork Cage

The sound of a chirp sounds loudly. Able refrains from setting his foot down as a small mechanical bird peers cautiously at him. It looks at him twice before leaving, and he chuckles. A sound you thought you’d never hear from a clockwork.

“Father, why must you have so many of these birds around? I wouldn’t forgive myself if I someday stepped on one!”

Hello yes, I realized something, that probably others already have, but here we go.

So, everyone ( or well, Pirate101 fans ) know how rushed book 15 was, so rushed in fact they just killed Kane off.

But, stuff has ( or already had ) come out about the original concept for the book 15 and other books. And one of those things is Able, who was suppose to be this super clockwork that would go against Kane.

At first I was a bit shocked, because hello? Cool idea, why was he scrapped and so on. But, then I started to wander, “Wait, why is his name Able?” There is no chess piece called an Able ( even that’s more a Clockwork Elite thing ). And then it go me wondering, why was Kane named Kane. At first, I just thought it had to do with Kane being the king of the elite in a way. He was king of the chess board, didn’t really think much of it.

Until, I made small comment to myself, “You know if Kane name was spelled Cain-” and that’s when it hit me.

So, a little context, there is a biblical story about two brothers named Cain and Abel. In the story, Cain kills Abel.

Do you see where I’m going with this?

Kane may have be possibly based on the story of Cain and Abel was never cut from the game.

And knowing that fact, makes me even more peeved Able was cut because hello?? Perfect story-telling right there. Image all the ideas they could have done with this narrative!

In honor of finding out about this good boi from the blog known as @piecesofchess ( go follow it if you like Kane or Pirate101 ), I drew Able!

Or, how I like to image he would have looked like. Full body design needs some work, but here he is with some headcanons by the side and mostly headshots.

I like to image Able is the totally opposite of Kane, beside the fact he’s good ( yes! He’s a good guy! ). I can see him maybe sucking at being serious. Like, he can try to be serious, but 75% of the time he ends up breaking down into laughter from not being able to hold a serious face for long enough. Also like to image Able is just a bit faster than Kane, like yea, he’s suppose to be stronger than Kane, but Gazpaccio put a few more points into the speed stat on Able, so he’s a fast boi.

Dude also just likes looser clothing, and his hair is more on the wavy, curly side of things, so yes, even the clothes are the opposite of Kane ( who wears more formal, military get-up with neat tided up hair )
