The Creature Collector

Hey, all! I know this isn’t creature collection related. But this is special to me.

If you didn’t know, I’m a game developer (technical game designer, to be specific). And the game I’ve been working on for the last couple of months has been revealed. This is Evercore Heroes: a competitive PvE multiplayer experience. I’m proud of all of the work I’ve done in this game and I can’t wait until even more people get their hands on it.

Infinite Ruby

It was fifteen years ago when Team Magma succeeded. Groudon has been awake for that long and the world is now dry and barren. What little life remains in Hoenn, tries to move on from the memory of that fateful day. If only that skilled trainer could have defeated Maxie... Well, none of it matters now. Team Magma disappeared when Groudon surfaced and life continues.

You’re ten years old now, and this endless drought is all you have ever known. What is else is left for you? In the old days, you would have been choosing your first Pokémon and going on a grand adventure. Now, Hoenn offers little adventure. You’ll never leave Everheat Town.

However, to your surprise, you see a robed figure walking toward you. You don’t feel fear, only curiosity. That curiosity then turns to cautious excitement when this mysterious man extends his hands and demonstrates three Poké Balls. He confides that he believes you are capable of restoring the world...

Hello, all!

Here are some creature info cards for a creature/monster collection game I’m currently working on. I’ll reveal more with time.

Each creature (with some exceptions) can be found in multiple locations, but with a different typing, which is reflected through its color palette.

Please let me know what you think of these designs. Do these creatures interest you? Any that you would consider adding to your team?

I want to celebrate my first ever Nuzlocke attempt. Here are the final team members of my Pokemon White Nuzlocke Challenge.

A quick summary of them:

Hotpocket: Another good name for her would have been “One Punch Woman”. She was a beast on my team and easily my strongest Pokemon. Thanks to her, Darmanitan has become one of my new favorite Pokemon. May her god-like Fire Punch forever burn brightly!

Fawna: The surprise of the group. I did not expect her to survive long at all, yet she held strong the entire time. Her Leech Seed was also instrumental for plenty of battles, and for that I will be eternally grateful.

Ursnot: I needed an Ice type, and did I get one helluva Ice type. Second only to Hotpocket, Ursnot was a frozen juggernaut. I like to imagine that Hotpocket and him have an intense rivalry. He may be Ice, but he can easily compete with Hotpocket.

Joybuzz: I did not want a Stunfisk on my team. At all. But Joybuzz did his duty and he did it well. I cannot say he changed my mind on Stunfisk as a whole; but it was a valuable lesson in giving every Pokemon their due time.

Takeshi: I was worried that Takeshi would ruin my team composition, due to Fawna being an effective Grass type. However, where Fawna was an ideal strategic option, Takeshi proved himself a sponge for damage and cannon with his Special Attacks. His poison did not hurt either.

Gamera: The real Gamera might be a friend to all children, but my Gamera is a force to be reckoned with. After losing plenty of strong Water types, this Pokemon was my last hope of having an effective Water type. Aside from having a strong Defense, Gamera’s Aqua Jet made him a high-speed hydro-train with massive power.

In the end, I’m happy I did this Nuzlocke. I never expected this sort of team, and that sort of unpredictability is what I was hoping for, in the end. I am proud of my team, especially my blazing Hotpocket.

I stand by this message that I myself have come up with.

So, for my next Pokémon playthrough, I decided to create a new challenge which I will call the Random Type Challenge. In it, I have randomly generated six Pokemon types. These types help me limit what Pokemon I’m allowed to use in the game.

The rules are:

Any Pokémon used has to possess one of the six randomly generated types.

If none are available, then you can continue with the Pokémon you have, until you are able to obtain one with an approved type.

You can catch a Pokemon that does not meet this criteria, as long as it will evolve into a Pokemon with the appropriate typing.

A type cannot be repeated on the team.

This rule applies for all types, not just the approved ones.

Here are some examples that will help explain the rules:

If none of my approved types is Fire, Water or Grass, then I can continue using my starter, until I am able to catch a Pokémon  with a type from my list. At which point, the starter  Pokémon  must be benched.

If one of my approved types is Ground, but Fire is not approved, I am still able to use Numel, since one its types is from the approved list. However, I will be unable to use any pure Fire types.

If my team already has a Water type, then I am unable to add another Water type, unless I remove the first one.

One of my approved types is Flying, but not Water or Bug. In this case, I am able to catch a Surskit as long as I evolve it into a Masquerain.

For my first run, I have already randomly generated which types I’m allowed to use. See below:

After Hop loses to Bede and goes through his depressed stage, he switches up his team regularly and his Wooloo is nowhere to be found, until he regains his confidence. This is never mentioned outright, but I love how the game was able to represent Hop’s waywardness by having him temporarily abandon his first Pokémon for a few battles. This hit particularly hard after watching the Twilight Wings episode “Buddy”, which explores Hop’s relationship with his Wooloo.

Thought I’d share this, if nobody else noticed. :)

Forget your Shiny Pokémon! I just caught me an Exotic Snorpork and she is better than any Shiny Charizard!

This has been a PSA.

With the release of Pokémon Sword and Shield, and the leading controversy, I’ve had a lot of interesting questions about the whole thing.

I’ve already shared my thoughts about it, at least to some extent. However, I always believe that a conversation should be had with people of opposing views to better understand and see all sides of a situation. As such, I would like to ask a few questions to people about this and see their point of view.

I’m looking for people that fit the following criteria:

-You consider yourself a Pokémon fan. I don’t care how you define a fan.

-You did not agree with the decisions Gamefreak made in regards to Sword and Shield. Maybe you didn’t even like the games.

-You bought and played Sword and/or Shield.

Please DM me if you’re interested, since I’d like to do this privately. Also, this won’t be a debate. I’d like it to be a civil conversation where you answer a series of questions I have. So, I will not be judging you, mocking you or trying to convince you of anything. If at any point you feel I am doing any of these things, please say so and I can rephrase the question or simply skip it. Finally, this is purely for myself. I will not be recording or posting these conversations anywhere.

If you want to ask me any questions, feel free to. I just request you do so after you’ve answered mine. We can have a nice two-way conversation about Pokémon.

ALSO: Please do not insult me or anyone else. Even if it’s just the two of us, I don’t want to see any of you openly insult anybody you disagree with. Feel free to say you disagree, but I will not take you seriously if you demean or degrade anybody.

I hope to make my own creature collection game in the future, and I wish to learn from everyone and everything. So, please, I welcome and invite you to share your throughts. :)

Just to keep it lighthearted, when you DM me, start off by telling me your favorite all time Pokémon. Mine is: Raticate!

My theory: Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire indeed have “too much water”. 😂

I remember thinking this assignment was gonna be awful, but by the end of it I was fully immersed in it. And, in short, I was able to support my claim that these games did have “too much water”. I showed the percentage of Water-type Pokémon, how much of the world is travelled by use of Surf and Dive and how many NPC trainers use Water types as their specialty. I wish I could find that assignment and post it here, but I fear I might have lost it. 😅

Not trying to make a point here, or anything. Just a funny story that I figured I’d share with everybody. Pokémon Alpha Sapphire is probably my overall favorite Pokémon game and I will always consider Hoenn my favorite and home region.

Finally defeated Claire and her Dragon Pokémon. Here’s the team that helped me accomplish this:

These were the updates to the team:

-Mamoswine: After realizing that I had no means of defeating Claire, I was able to catch an absent-minded Swinub. Through plenty of training, it managed to evolve all the way into a Mamoswine. Although one of my most powerful Pokémon, he can get easily distracted. Once, he wandered off to another town when I wasn’t looking. Took me a whole day to find him.
