Happy stim in color!
Pokemon has announced that any pokemon caught in or transferred to pokemon Legends Z A will not be able to be transferred to any other pokemon game.
They're reintroducing the locked gates and points of no return that they had gotten rid of when pokemon home was launched.
I'm done. I'm not buying another pokemon game.
I was genuinely super excited for this game. But at the same time I did sense some kind of darkness on the horizon. I felt there was something wrong with it. Maybe it was the fact the games still look like shit despite pokemon being the highest grossing franchise of all time. And then they announced the dlc and I rolled my eyes but I was still willing to get the game.
But this is my breaking point.
Don't get me wrong, this isn't something new for the series. This was the norm for 20 years. When a pokemon goes forward it can't go back. But then when they introduced pokemon home after dexit they finally did away with that norm.
Finally pokemon were able to freely go between a handful of games and when they went forward it didn't bar them from going back. It was amazing.
But now in typical pokemon franchise they're stepping one step forward and two steps back.
I was completely against dexit, but I could actually understand a reason behind it. Making every single pokemon available in every single game was daunting from a workload standpoint, and from a file size standpoint. Especially since the games had (regrettably) gone 3d.
But something that made up for that was that we could use pokemon home to freely transfer pokemon between whatever games they WERE compatible with. And to me, that made up for it.
But now once again they're taking a step back and removing a fucking amazing feature, and making it so any pokemon transferred to pokemon legends z a cannot be transferred back to any other games.
People can spin whatever devils advocate reasoning they can think of. Any excuses they want to try and make. But if the pokemon company wanted you to be able to transfer pokemon freely with legends z a, they would let you. It's just pointless greed.
They obviously don't want to put in the work to make it compatible, and they want to push people forward and make them keep buying new games. But the thing is, if you're paying for pokemon home to transfer your pokemon around, you're already going to buy the new games. It's utterly idiotic and pointless.
When sword and shield came out, and were absolutely atrocious, I said if the next games weren't better I wasn't buying another pokemon game. Scarlet and Violet were better even if they still had a lot of flaws. But this is too far for me.
I'm done.
Becoming obsessed with improving my ingo cosplay, so now I'm working on making an actual pokemon team for scarlet that uses his pokemon so I can battle people at cons.
Devastating to find out how many submas Pokemon aren't available in Gen 9.
"GameFreak is what's holding back Pokemon"
You asked and The Pokemon Company listened: presenting the first non-GameFreak core Pokemon game!
It's a stripped down port remake that misunderstands the art direction of the classic that it salvages for nostalgia bait! Oh, you don't like this?
How about a heavily monetized version of Google Maps?
Do you see what I'm saying here? Replacing GameFreak isn't going to give us better games. Without them, Pokemon will just hire the cheapest studio willing to make their soulless nostalgia bait. Pokemon's main profit comes from merch and that's all they need to sell it.
I know GameFreak is no victim, but I'm defending them because I don't want them to go away. They speak like they honestly love what they do, and I just don't want gamers to kill that.
Edit: ILCA isn't a bad studio, and Niantic...well that's a different can of worms. Also, I'm not talking about side ventures like Pokemon New Snap. There's no reason to rush that because the franchise doesn't depend on it. My point is, no matter what company they hire to make the games the franchise depends on, The Pokemon Company will rush them for their merchandise schedule.
Edited to remove the assertion that The Pokemon Company held back ILCA's vision for BDSP. As commenters pointed out, the source did not substantiate this claim.

Since the Pokedex cut started in the Galar games, and since Galar is based on England, people have been calling the cuts "Dexit" as sort of a play-on-words for "Dex" and "Brexit."
Brexit is a thing that fucked over people financially and damaged the UK's economy. People are like "Game Freak having to cut the Pokedex is exactly like this thing that negatively effected real people financially."
I'm really glad that Galar wasn't based on Germany or Poland. Somebody already unironically called people who supports Sword and Shield Nazis once, so I wouldn't put it past some people to take it that far.
finding out that other places don’t have pepperoni rolls has been the worst thing in my mind since dexit in 2019
