i wasn’t talking exclusively about fanfic (which i don’t even read but that’s beside the point). the stark lack of female characters in popular media is indicative of a larger issue in itself and we should be able to talk about why women and lesbians get zero attention, zero stories about us in the first place without dismissing concerns of misogyny and lesbophobia with “straight women are the only ones writing and creating and they’re just obsessed with men”. straight men also only write stories about men because they don’t care about women and don’t think they’re whole, complex, dimensional people who lead interesting or full lives. attraction is not the defining or leading motive for creative writing

and yeah i don’t really care about fan drama but in fan spaces, which are an extension of real life where real bigotry can proliferate as is the case with all things that don’t exist in a vacuum, people continue to fawn over mediocre white men with no personalities who had one on-screen appearance and completely disregard main women characters because “they’re boring”. at a certain point if you can’t stand to even think about women as dimensional characters that contribute anything to a story, if you can look at any man and see a multifaceted character with depth but then look at any woman and see nothing more than a cardboard cutout, then the issue is probably just misogyny, and i’m tired of giving heterosexuals a pass. sexuality doesn’t excuse not seeing women as people with as much interiority as any man

People understand that there's a difference between queer tragedy made by cishet people and queer tragedy made by queer people, right? They've gotta recognize the massive difference between cishet people going "everyone look at the sad queer oh woe is them look at how the world is so cruel to the queers isn't their self-hatred so sad aren't they tragic" and queer people telling tragic stories based on their experiences or the experiences of those they know. Like that's so obvious there's no way people just don't recognize there's a difference. Right? They can't be that stupid right??

Pearl might be Steven’s craziest (living) mom but it is so so palpable throughout the show how much she comes to love him despite him being a walking, talking of the biggest loss of her life. She went from almost pulling out his gem to finding a loophole to disobey a direct order from her DIAMOND so she could help him understand more about his mom. STEVEN is the one who inspires her to free herself from the bonds Rose left for her. I love watching them surmount the terrible chasm between them to grow together. They always be my fav Steven parental relationship on the show <3
