That One Blue Dog Blog Intro

This is my intro post I guess. Current as of July 2026.

A little bit about me:

My pronouns are they/them (see more: @ThatOneBlueDog • Pronouns.page)

Time zone is Australian eastern standard time (UTC+10)

I like art, creative writing, and thinking way too much about things that don't affect the real world in any way whatsoever

I love fictional media - books, TV shows, movies and musicals are my jam

Pieces of media I like include Shaun the Sheep, Moulin Rouge (2001 film), musicals in general, and the Hermitcraft/Life Series SMPs, among others

At the time of writing this I am a minor, so while I don't mind adults interacting with me please don't send me anything NSFW or that you wouldn't usually send a person under 18

Usually my art will revolve around whatever my current hyperfixation is. I also make talking posts sometimes. I'm a pretty reserved person, but I'm trying to find ways to overcome that and be more social, so I'm fine with people sending me asks and dms so long as it's appropriate. I can't promise I'll respond immediately, as I don't tend to come here much unless I have something to post, but I'll do my best.

I've seen a bunch of "fandom etiquette" posts on my dash today and I'm going to say something that is maybe going to be unpopular but;

The absolutely pervasive mentality that unwanted criticism or critique shouldn't be given and should be ignored is why fans of color don't stay in fan spaces.

And I am not going to mince words here:

A lot of you are racist. A lot of your fan works are racist.

That might have been difficult to hear. And if it was, you should probably reflect on why that was.

"Fandom etiquette" has created a space where fans of color either bite our tongues and eventually leave or say something, get dogged on, and then eventually leave.

So much of "fandom etiquette" seems to be about insulating creatives from Feeling Bad and hostility to any kind of negative feedback is a pretty big contributor to why bigotry festers in these spaces.

#imo the potluck analogy applies- it would be rude to critique someone's icing technique at a potluck bc it wasn't as good as at the bakery #but if they had decorated their cupcakes w hate symbols it wouldn't be rude to tell them that's gross and gtfo #in fact it would be inappropriate to NOT say anything in that situation #or to complain that another guest who did point it out was 'ruining everyone's potluck' #and pointing out racism in fan works is 100% the second thing not the first! As a non-binary person who likes to write, perhaps one of my weirdest traits is finding the genders of cis characters so much more fascinating to explore than the genders of trans characters. It's like my brain sees a trans character and goes 'Yeah, they're trans. That's cool. Pretty normal.' But it sees a cis character and goes 'Wait, you're telling me that their gender matches their physical sex? Dude that's fascinating, tell me more'

Wanting to post about my OCs but not having the pretty art to make people care about my OCs

Maybe a hot take, but I hate how people always say 'MisCOMunIcaTIoN iS tERRibLe WriTInG'. Like. Here are two traumatised idiots with trust issues who never learned to express their feelings. Try telling me it's realistic for them to communicate perfectly.

i can't be the only person who hates being called neurospicy. it's such a weird term. i'm neurodivergent. i'm disabled. call me that.

I reblogged this on my side blog a few days ago expressing my agreement in the tags, but I've been thinking about it a bit more since then and I think I've figured out why I dislike it so much. My understanding of the term 'neurospicy' is that it originated from autistic people being told they must have 'mild autism', the common response to which became 'nope, spicy autism' - hence, neurospicy. But here's the thing: not only does that indicate that 'neurospicy' refers exclusively to autism (despite autism being far from the only form of neurodivergence), but it also means the term carries the implication of 'autistic but can pass as "not autistic" within wider society'. Therefore, when people use it as a quirky way of saying 'autistic', it feels ablest towards autistic people with high support needs, who can't pass as neurotypical. So yeah. Saying 'neurospicy' when you mean 'autistic' feels like calling level 1 autism Asperger's syndrome, and there's a very good reason why we don't do that anymore

so apparently some people feel like it’s annoying when someone engages with a lot of stuff from the same person, like going through their ship tag and liking all the content there.
