I feel like there’s literally no stronger swear word than when a girl in bonnet in a movie says something like, “But Lady Snapplecap says I cannot until I come of age!” and a dude wearing pants tucked into his boots and an open shirt replies, “DAMN Lady Snapplecap!” with the force of 435 F-bombs
There are a lot of people in the notes saying, basically, "Yeah, that's polyester for ya!"
but, the thing is
even polyester fabric was higher quality in the past
yes, not all of it, but, still, a noticeable amount of older polyester was...nicer.
yeah, it would still get picks and hold on to every bit of underarm odor, and that's on top of no-one knowing about microplastic shedding
but a 1950s Wash'n'Wear shirt, or 1970s double knit pantsuit, or 1980s neon sweatshirt, or a 1990s slinky knit or crushed velour mock turtleneck...so many of them would have been significantly higher quality than the fast fashion of today.
i work in historical costume. i work in a big-ass warehouse, with hundreds of thousands articles of clothing dating back over 100 years (for original pieces).
the BLINDING difference in clothing quality between even the 1990s and the mid-2000s...not even going in to the decline in quality of clothing made in natural fibers (jeans with elastane, i'm looking at you), I've got faux-leather trousers from 1980s that are in near-mint condition, even after being hired and worn repeatedly for the past 40 years. we get donations of clothing that shows and films have bought online for contemporary shows that are disintegrating after being used on one show, for like....10 days, max.
don't even get me started on the seam allowances we used to get in clothes, because the assumption was you'd alter it at some point...
they hate you. they hate the planet. they have drip fed you worse and worse quality clothing until you don't even realize you're being sold Garbage
i have a suggestion
there are places in the world today that are experiencing 40°C for the first time in recorded history. of course there's no way to know whether chucking billionaires into volcanos will appease the sun god but i feel we're doing the scientific method a disservice if we don't at least try
interesting to me, to come across pinned posts that are like "this blog is a safe space for women, queer people, racial minorities, etc."
oh, is it? you scored 100% on your internalized biases exam and you're a perfect person who always thinks deeply and critically about all your posts before you post/reblog them, and you're sure they could never harm those groups of people that your blog is a safe space for?
oh well in that case good job carry on being a Guaranteed Safe Space
to be clear I'm not saying "don't bother thinking about what you reblog/post because you're gonna hurt someone no matter what you do."
I'm saying you can't guarantee your blog is gonna be safe for the people you want to protect because we all have biases and some of them we're not even aware of.
so maybe instead of positioning yourself as a beacon of faultless purity you could be like hey, women, queer people, and minorities are welcome here, please let me know if I screw anything up, I'm learning and doing my best.
it's like "trigger warnings." so many people treat trigger warnings like there's a finite list and it's pass/fail. if you include any trigger warnings it's a signal that you're a Good Person, if you didn't include them at all or left out this common trigger omg you're a Bad Person.
the thing is, anything—literally anything—can be a trigger to someone. you can't possibly account for all the things that might trigger a person. at best you can warn for content that is commonly understood to be difficult, taboo, sensitive, controversial, whatever. you can't trigger warn for everything, you can't anticipate what any random person's triggers are.
the point I'm making about both these things is that so many people act like "I did the thing that makes me a Good Person" without accounting for the fact that you're forgetting
1) you're imperfect and do not possess all knowledge and
2) you are fully capable of harming people you bear only goodwill toward

Me, tears streaming down my face, sobbing, as I stare at the stars: it’s just so beautiful
The medieval peasant I went back in time to give a bag of Doritos to, concerned: what terrible and powerful sorcerers they must have in your age, to be able to veil the vault of heaven itself from view, as you say
Me, sniffling: I didn’t realize, I can’t, it’s so much, I, I… are the chips good, at least?
Medieval peasant, trying to make me feel better: they’re… magical, strange traveler
I say shit like "If my memory serves me" knowing damn well it serves the dark lord
(Smugly after failing at a task) and they said it could be done.
i'm having a bad day. someone is going to die today (remembers suicide jokes are bad for my mental health) and it's not going to be me. (gets scared someone will report me to the police) people around the world die of natural causes every day. (remembers i want people to think i'm smart) and i know who it's going to be (remembers i want to retain an air of mystery) but i'm not telling.

looked at a picture of cinnamon sugar doughnuts while lying in bed in the middle of the night with absolutely zero ability to procure any cinnamon sugar doughnuts and boy let me tell you that was a m i s t a k e!
They should let you vomit a black sludge and when you are done you feel better about yourself. Also the black sludge forms into an evil clone you can make out with.
