They stepped through the portal Raven made them. Ruby saw Shade and Vacuo up close. The heat beat down on them and she felt it all over her skin. She was probably going to need some sunscreen. She thought of Weiss, and winced. If she needed sunscreen... well, maybe Jaune can keep her aura up...

She turned her attention back to Vacuo.

Oscar was in the library where he always was. He tried to hide his anger and desperation, but when he slammed the book, he knew he failed.

"Dammit," Oscar muttered. "This is pointless... utterly pointless."

"Oscar, you can't give up..." Ozpin said.

"Shut up," Oscar said.

"Oscar..."

"Shut up. This is your fault! You just had to reincarnate in my head, didn't you? You just had to ruin my life. You just had to..." Oscar gritted his teeth. He was starting to get looks. None of them could even fathom what it was like to be him right now. And yet they all looked at him like he was crazy. Well who cares about them!

Oscar just finished another book and still there was nothing about how to save himself. He got up, knocking his small desk over, the books falling to the ground.

He stormed out.

He was on the railing of the room. He needed air.

"Oscar..." Oscar could have sworn he felt Ozpin's hand on his shoulder.

"She's gone. Ruby's dead. How the hell am I supposed to survive this? She was the only one who never looked at me and saw you... and she's gone."

"Oscar... I am so sorry," Ozpin said.

Oscar threw his hand in the air to push Ozpin away.

It was all too much. Oscar started crying.

Ruby took a second look around. She realized she made a mistake in her original assessment of where they were. She thought they were on a building looking at Shade. She realized they were far too close for that.

"I never got to tell Ruby I love her..." Oscar said.

Ruby stopped. The others stopped as well. They all heard. Ruby heard.

"I love her"

The words bounced around in her head over and over again, each bounce making her face redder and her heart faster.

Then she saw him. He hadn't noticed them yet. He was crying. He was so exhausted. She was tired too, but...

Her feet went ahead of her, and soon, she tackled him in a hug. They slammed into the ground, Ruby holding on as tight as possible to Oscar.

"Oscar," Ruby said.

"R-Ruby... this can't be real. I must really be going crazy..." Oscar said.

"No. I'm here. I'm real," Ruby said.

Ruby was very much enjoying being with her boyfriend, Oscar. They were in Team RWBY’s dorm and they were supposed to be watching a movie. The movie had been forgotten when Ruby started kissing Oscar.

She pulled back after a kiss and whispered, “Inlove you” then giggled.

Oscar was in the middle of saying, “I love you, too,” when Ruby bit his lower lip. He stopped talking. Ruby stopped.

She was still biting his lip, kind of shocked.

“Uh… Ruby?”

Ruby pulled back, blushing.

“Sorry… I uh… misjudged the distance,” Ruby said.

“I’m not even going to ask,” Oscar said.

“Sorry. Are you bleeding?” Ruby asked.

She grabbed his lower lip and examined it. She saw her teeth marks on him, but it looked like she didn’t break the skin.

She realized she was still holding his lip and let go.

“Sorry,” Ruby whispered. Oscar started laughing.

“Hey! This is serious,” Ruby said, puffing out her cheeks. Oscar pulled her into him and hugged her.

“I love you,” Oscar said. That made Ruby tingle all over, no matter how many time she heard it.

This is a close up? A CLOSE UP YA JERK! A CLOSEUP!

This was something Oscar knew was impossible to Ruby, as hard as this was. It was something that proved to him once again how strong of a person Ruby was. She walked with him hand in hand. She didn’t say much.

Oscar filled the air this time.

“It’s beautiful on Patch. It’s so different from everywhere we’ve gone before,” Oscar said. Ruby just nodded. She needed to hear his voice.

“Your dad’s gardens are really nice. He does an amazing job on the sunflowers.” Ruby squeezed his hand. “I think I should offer to help him soon. It takes a lot of work.”

“Mmm”

“I know it’s hot now. I might have to… take off my shirt…” Oscar said. That got a chuckle out of Ruby. Oscar leaned in and kissed her cheek.

“I love you,” Oscar said.

“I love you, too,” Ruby said.

They finally made it to the cliff. There was a simple memorial stone there right at the edge. The summer breeze swept through the air, carrying them closer.

They stopped in front of the stone.

“Hi, mom. I brought someone special to meet you,” Ruby said. She turned to Oscar and he stepped forward.

“My name is Oscar Pine. I love your daughter. She’s amazing, as you know. Uh… sorry. Haven’t had to do this in… at least a decade,” Oscar said.

His parents. They died in a Grimm attack, which left Oscar on his aunt’s farm with nothing but scars. Ruby wrapped her arms around Oscar.

“I love him, mom. He’s super nice and considerate and he is so hopeful about everything and he has been through so much but he still smiles and laughs.”

Oscar brought her hand to his lips and kissed her hand.

“You know, all of that describes you. Oh, Summer, your daughter has lots of friends too.”

“Mom… we stopped her. We stopped Salem,” Ruby said.

The summer breeze came through again, wrapping the two of them in a hug. Ruby’s breath hitched and tears started to fall. She buried her head in Oscar’s shoulder.

“Sorry,” Ruby said.

“There’s nothing to apologize for.”

“I miss her,” Ruby said.

At first Ruby wasn’t sure this was the best idea, putting the four of them up against other people. But the other team proved to be the sort that made Ruby ready to fight.

Weiss and Jaune, Ren and Nora. Well, this was going to be interesting.

“Ruby! Why am I over here?” Weiss asked.

“Because this was a double date and somehow you four also came here,” Ruby said.

“I swear we weren’t following you. We just wanted to play some laser tag,” Jaune said.

Jaune and Oscar gave each other a shrug. They both knew they were going to be at the bottoms of the leaderboard this time. Neither one of them could aim to save their lives.

“Don’t get upset if we win,” Yang said with a smirk, her arm around Blake’s shoulders.

“And we will win,” Blake added.

“So you think,” Nora said.

“Hey… we have to remember to be careful,” Ren said.

“Yes… Let’s try not to be banned from here,” Oscar said.

The two teams went to the corners of the room. They had the gear on and prepared to fight.

“Yang, no fire,” Oscar said.

“I know. Trust me,” Yang said with a smirk.

This was such a bad idea. Ruby leaned over and kissed his cheek.

“Don’t worry, we got this,” Ruby said. “We’ll be careful.”

Oscar didn’t trust that at all…

And for good reason. After the round started, the girls fought hard. Oscar found elevated ground to ‘snipe’ from. He just wanted to avoid the battle in the middle.

He sat against the wall. Jaune slid down next to Oscar.

“Hey,” Jaune said.

“You scared too?” Oscar asked.

“Terrified,” Jaune said. He looked down in the center and saw Yang jumping off a pillar and landing behind Nora. Ruby and Ren were in a shoot out. Blake was chasing Weiss.

“No!”

“Yes!”

“So… double date. Nice,” Jaune said.

“Is that what you four were doing?” Oscar asked.

“Uh…”
