Where Sky Meets Sea
SoKai Week 2025 Bonus Prompt: Sky and Sea
Summary: Memories of the Keyblade Graveyard and its aftermath continue to haunt Sora and Kairi, but together they'll start the long road to healing. Set post-KH3.
🫖 🔥 🛋️
Kairi had nightmares more often than not. They were always about the same two things: her death, and Sora's. Reliving the trauma that she couldn't prevent, over and over again. While she could fight and train during the day, the night provided no escape from the memories that still haunted her.
Heart racing, covered in a cold sweat, she woke up reaching for Sora as he slipped through her fingers. Wrapped around her was one of his old hoodies, a gift from his mother during the long months of his absence. It covered the scar on her back, which ached dully at times like this. Rolling over on her side helped a little, but doing that always made her feel open, exposed. A shudder ran down her spine, and she sat up, the blanket slipping down to gather around her legs.
The Mysterious Tower was creepy no matter the time of day, but being alone in this room, filled with shadows dancing across the walls like the shadows of the people who had kidnapped her, was a little too much. The kitchen/living room combination Yen Sid had conjured up at least had a warm, cozy fire. She went to it now and grabbed the whistling blue kettle out of the cupboard to heat up some water for tea.
Cup in hand, she curled up on the couch by the fire and watched the flickering shapes dancing around in it. Here was a horse, there was a dragon. Her head was nodding when a sound from behind her made her drop her tea and whirl around, her Keyblade appearing in her hand.
"Kairi?"
She relaxed and let her Keyblade disappear. It was Sora, his hair messy from sleep and his eyes wide from her sudden reaction. He was taller now, and thinner, too, his face more angular, though whether that was because he'd grown or because he hadn't had enough to eat while he was gone was hard to say.
"Sorry," she said, bending down to pick up the broken pieces of the teacup. In an instant Sora was kneeling beside her, helping her clean up the mess. His reflexes were still as good as ever.

Here's some art for Sokai Week. ^v^
Sky meets sea. Sora with the wings of a Red-billed Gull and Kairi as a mermaid.
Happy Sokai Week! This artwork is based on Kpop Demon Hunters(Best Movie of the year!) Especially the scene when Rumi and Jinu sing Free, and since the two couples have some similarities to each other, with some differences. One who sacrificed for the other(Jinu sacrificed himself to save Rumi and give his soul to her while Sora sacrificed his existence in his reality to save Kairi from her fate). Plus, the song suits the two, so well🥺. Thank you for hosting another great event💙

Just a quick Sokai for Sokai week 💕
Feather on the Wind
SoKai Week Day 7: Reunion + Hyakki Yagyō
Summary: Every year during the Hyakki Yagyō night parade, Kairi hopes to see the tengu boy Sora—her mysterious friend who hasn't appeared for three long years. But will he finally return this night, or has their fleeting connection come to an end? Japanese mythology AU.
🐈⬛🌙👺
The night of the Hyakki Yagyō was always the most dazzling event of the year.
The streets shimmered under the moonlight, alive with laughter and music as the parade wound its way through town.
Towering one-eyed odokuro skeletons danced in time with lantern-bearing kitsune, their many tails flickering like candle flames. A procession of karakasa-obake—old paper umbrellas brought to life—hopped along on their single legs, twirling gleefully while whistling eerie tunes through the slits in their paper skins. A trio of wanyūdō swooped overhead as they howled with laughter. Behind them, a group of noppera-bō with eerily blank faces glided forward without a sound.
Further back, a band of tanuki in patterned robes played bamboo flutes and beat on hand drums. A small group of jorogumo pranced forward, their feet clattering against the cobblestones. A pair of yuki-onna trailed a curtain of mist and frost as they passed, their long white hair flowing like waterfalls of snow. A squad of oni clad in samurai armor clamored after them.
The night pulsed with energy, laughter, and old magic—an otherworldly celebration where the veil between realms was at its thinnest, and for one enchanted night, the unseen came to play. It was the one night where yōkai, spirits, and creatures of every shape and size could roam through town as they pleased.
Everyone was enjoying themselves.
Everyone except Kairi.
She padded along near the back of the procession, her black cat tail swishing low behind her, her cat ears twitching with every shrill laugh and cheer. Her heart wasn’t in it. Not this year.
Not like the years before when he was there.
“Kairi, come on,” Naminé sighed, floating beside her in her wisp-like form, nearly translucent in the moonlight. “You’ve been sulking all night.”
“Yeah, it’s been three years since you last saw him,” Xion said, her samurai armor clanking as she walked. “I think it’s time to let him go.”
Kairi’s ears flattened. “I can’t,” she murmured. “I keep hoping that… maybe this year…”
But there was no sign of him.
Sora hadn’t come to the night parade in three years.
The first year, she thought maybe he’d been late. The second year, she’d waited until dawn, standing on the bridge that overlooked the river.
And this year, it seemed like he was going to be a no-show yet again.
“Maybe he’s dead,” Xion said.
“Xion!” Naminé hissed.
“Well he could be!” Xion said. “How would we know?”
There were a few times that Kairi did wonder if Sora had died, but she pushed the thought out of her mind each time.
It was too painful to think about.
“I’m gonna go,” Kairi said quietly, slipping away from the parade before either Naminé or Xion could protest.
She walked alone through the quiet streets until she reached the bridge. She leaned on the railing, staring out at the river.
This was the spot where they first met. Sora dropped out of the sky in a flurry of feathers, warning her to “look out!” before he nearly crashed into her. Every year after that, they would meet again during the parade and spend the night talking about everything and nothing.
The two of them made an unlikely pair. She was a bakeneko, and he was a tengu. She prowled the forest floor, and he soared through the skies. But it didn’t matter to her. And it didn’t seem to matter to him.
She’d started to fall for him back then.

Sokai week 25 day 7 reunion
Part of a rwby crossover fanfic I’m working on
Reunion (How Bittersweet of You)
SoKai Week Day 7 -- Reunion / Canon Compliant
Summary: Out of all the hugs they’ve shared since this journey began, this one had to be the most bittersweet one.
⭐️⭐️⭐️
SHE REGRETTED IT, KAIRI LATER REFLECTED.
Maybe if she knew they would be separated, maybe if she had gotten some sort of gut instinct, she would’ve hugged him back and never let go.
“Kairi, remember what you said before? I’m always with you too! I’ll come back to you. I promise!”
“I know you will!”
She didn’t think about it as they held hands, struggling to not be pulled apart as they were forcefully growing distant.
She didn’t think about it as the sand around her transformed and expanded, becoming the familiar sands of the islands, the ocean she never quite got tired of watching, the palm trees with their coconuts that were always just shy of hitting them all on the head.
But by that point, she had been feeling full of faith and adrenaline. The worlds coming back to light, twinkling in the night like stars, and Sora saying goodbye for one last time as a vortex swallowed him.
It didn’t cross her mind when she went back to her house, where her dad exclaimed her name with worry and came at her with a hug.
It had been a while since she’d been able to hug her dad, and that realization had her stomach churning in guilt and the tears finally falling from her eyes.
The resulting crying session between her and her dad should’ve tired her out, but instead, here she lays in bed, her mind going in circles.
Because she didn’t hug Sora back.
He had just sacrificed himself to free her heart, and she had just saved him from being a heartless forever. They had finally reunited after being separated (she might’ve been inside his heart, but to her, it just doesn’t count).
And now he was out there, looking for Riku, alone. Sure, he had Donald and Goofy with him, but she would’ve felt better being with him.
The two could’ve gone to look for Riku together, and she would’ve been able to give him the hug she’s been missing ever since this whole mess began.
Struck with a yearning so powerful, she wonders how her heart hasn’t caved in, Kairi begins the countdown for when Sora comes back.
And if he takes too long, she’s not adverse to going after him and scolding him for making her wait so long.
⭐️⭐️⭐️

The Sky King
SoKai Week 2025 Day 7: Celebrate/Reunion/Return/Happily Ever After + Fairy Tale AU
Summary: Kairi finds a mysterious wounded stranger on her way home one evening. As she nurses him back to health, she can't shake the feeling she knows him somehow. Perhaps he holds the key to her identity and knows the reason she was found on Destiny Islands with a similar wound seven years ago.
🌌 👑🪽
Kairi’s name was the only thing she remembered about her past.
In a fog of lost memories and hazy dreams, it was her anchor point, her lifeline. A voice calling to her amidst a murky sea of sensations and feelings, all fragmented. The voice was gone, but the sounds and syllables remained. Kai-ri. The first part of her name meant sea, the second meant home, but when combined, there was an alternate meaning: detachment. Separation.
A fitting name for a young woman tossed from one wave to the next, drifting with precious few ties to her past.
Maybe that was why she loved strolling by the sea so much. She often went after supper to watch the sun setting over the waves. The sea called to her, calmed her, whispered hints of answers and pieces of memories, and this evening was no different. She picked up one of the shooting star-shaped thalassa shells that lay scattered across the beach and lifted it to the sky.
“Where am I from?” she said, giving voice to her thoughts. “Who am I?”

Sokai week 25 day 6 true love
Come Back To Me
SoKai Week Day 6 -- Transform / Canon Compliant
Summary: Falling, falling, into darkness… Until a light shined, and instinctively, he knew who had saved him.
👑👑👑
“Sora!”
That voice…
He knows that voice…
He recognizes this person…
Red hair, purple eyes, a kind smile and playful words always ready to quip.
Kairi.
Feeling arms wrap around him, he was enveloped in a bright light, a light he knows comes from her, and he could feel himself growing in size, returning back to who he is supposed to be.
Ten fingers, ten toes, and Kairi finally safe.
Safe in his arms.
Sora felt he could cry with the sheer relief that surged through him. Since the day he lost her, he had been searching for her.
Always, somehow, slipping through his fingers, like the sand back in the islands.
She was awake, no longer lying in the floor, not responding to his cries and pleading.
When he stabbed himself in order to free Kairi's heart, he hadn't expected such inky darkness to surround him.
Falling into the darkness... he had felt cold, could feel his heart struggling to resist the temptation to let go.
And while he hadn't been completely conscious at the time, he had recognize the lights in front of him, more specifically, the one that felt most familiar to him.
He would recognize that light anywhere, as familiar as the sunsets back at Destiny Islands.
The same light that would always guide him home, whenever he was lost and alone.
“Kairi, thank you.”
👑👑👑
A/N: Here we are, another Sora pov! Still short, but I'm glad I got this out lol. I always felt it was really sweet that Kairi was Sora's light in KH1, and I wanted to explore how Sora was feeling during the moment he transformed back from being a Heartless! I hope you guys enjoy this one, and as always, happy @sokaiweek 👑🎉!

The Princess of Light
SoKai Week 2025 Day 6: True Love/Healing/Transformation + Fairy Tale AU
Summary: Princess Kairi is cursed to be without love when she is a baby. She grows up cold and without a heart to help her understand other people’s feelings, no matter how hard her parents try to help her. One day, however, she meets a mysterious prince from a faraway world, and he just might hold the key to breaking her curse. SoKai adaptation of The Light Princess by George MacDonald.
✨ ❤️ 👑
Once upon a time, there was a beautiful world called Radiant Garden. The very Heart of the World was enchanted, with light flowing out of it and nourishing the land. In olden days, this light formed streams and pools and rivers and lakes, and it was said that if you bathed in this light or drank of it, you would feel rejuvenated, and all your ailments would be healed.
Of course, the practicality of doing such a thing was never questioned, as these things never are, and it wasn’t like anyone nowadays could prove it. The final remaining light pool was on the castle grounds, and access to it was quite restricted to the royal family. It was their duty to protect it and guard it, for without the light, the world would die. All the other light streams and pools and rivers and lakes had dried up, though there were prophecies that someday, a visitor from a faraway land would restore the light. For this reason the people of Radiant Garden did not build on these empty hollows but commemorated them as holy places instead.
