"Sounds good."
It had been a while since Koa had visited an arcade, mostly because she tended to prefer gaming by herself or with a couple of close friends. But somehow, being with Sylvia made going there again sound fun. Maybe it would have a Squid Beatz machine, or one of those old dancing games...
As she was led through the crowd, she couldn't help but notcie the stark difference in their heights. Koa herself had always been pretty small, and walking next to Sylvia accentuated that. She reminded the sakura-pink Inkling of Ruby -- They both towered over her, but in a way that made her feel safer rather than intimidated.
Not that much could intimidate her. Not anymore.
When they arrived at the less crowded area, Koa let out a deep breath and sat down on the bench next to them.
"It's been a while since I've been out like this." she admitted, a soft, sheepish chuckle escapng her. "Like, unless I'm going to work or something, I normally just hide in my apartment or at Ruby's place. I even get my groceries delivered half the time, so I don't have to deal with the crowds at the store."
Cue a pause, and a en expression to match another sheepish chuckle.
"Not that I'm complaining. I just... need a second."
"I get it, I'm pretty much the same way."
Sylvia sat down beside Koa, leaning back a bit. Honestly, she doesn't go out with friends as often as she really should, (something her father tries to remind her to do often) so even small moments like this are considered treasured moments to her.
Though, when she gets to hang out with Koa, they could literally sit in silence for hours and Sylvia would be more than happy.
"I'm usually only out and about if I'm walking my brothers to the Square or Plaza, or running errands..." Her cheeks flush lightly, chuckling as she scratched her cheek. "The one time I asked them to go get a few groceries for me, they ended up forgetting half the list... And I prefer not to make my dad navigate the stores."
She smiled, glancing out as she watched multiple people navigate the crowd. She leans forward a bit, resting her elbows on her knees. The weather's getting warmer now, which meant most people were dressing lighter. Her on the other hand, she still had the same sweatshirt despite the heat.
At least she'd switched to shorts.
"Honestly, we could sit here as long as needed. I'm in no rush."
"Who wants to go to work for me? I don't wanna go..."
Sylvia leans against the counter of Murray Sweets, a bag of various treats in her arms. Zach and Haru snicker beside her, eagerly munching on their treats.
"Ha! I'm already at work. 'Sides, I doubt I'd be a good bartender."
"If they don't trust you to bake, I'm not trusting you with drinks."
"I dunno, I think he'd be good at it! Maybe he can't cook but making a drink?"
"It's mo' that I'd scare people off wit' a restin' bitch face."
"That, I have no doubt about."
Angel had more than proved herself to them in the Memverse. She was arguably as strong a fighter as Marina, and certainly leagues above Acht themself. They were perfectly comfortable in saying that, should something happen, they were with possibly the best person to protect them.
Acht tilted their head at her remark about her memories. They hadn't quite come up with a thoughtful reply before the two of them reached the park, though, and that diverted their attention. Seeing so many different species in one place, living in the sunlight together... something stirred inside their stopped hearts.
"There are more people here than I expected." And yet, Acht didn't get that usual feeling they got around people, of wanting to find a small space to make themself scarce in. "It's... nice."
"I am a familiar face in this park. So I know many of the people here."
Angel pointed to a nearby bench, it was empty and normally the spot she'd sit down at anyways. She made her way over to it, making sure Acht was still following before sitting down. Smiling, she pulled out the bag of feed she used for feeding the birds. A few were already making their way over to the bench, anticipating the food.
"A few of the young ones will eventually come up to us while we're sitting, mostly to ask for a handful of the bird feed to scatter around the park and try to chase them off."
She laughed softly.
"Though I have had one ask me why my tentacles are like a rainbow in the light, and another tell me my glasses were weird. Children are... an eager bunch."
Acht gave a snort of a laugh at that, shaking their head as well. "Nature, right? Really, I should be fine. Long as my legs hold up." They still felt a little uneasy on them, but their whole body felt strange since they'd woken up. Surely they'd be able to work through that with time.
Their legs held up for now as they kept pace with her, their gaze wandering as they walked. "I'm going to have a lot of songs to write," they remark idly. They'd never been so spoiled for choice when it came to inspiration. Every second of this was a new experience just begging to be put into their work.
"If your legs give out, I can carry you. I am stronger than I look."
Angel smiles, she keeps her pace a little slower than normal just in case. She’s mostly joking about it, but if it was needed, she could lift them. It’s not a far walk to the park, but still. "I am excited to see what you come up with. The surface has quite an abundance of sights."
She glances up, watching a few stray birds fly past. One flies a bit slower than the others, though soon soars past them.
"…I have very few memories of the Domes, despite Marina’s efforts. But… I doubt I enjoyed the sights down there as much as I do up here."
The remark is sudden, and she doesn’t add anything else about it after. Especially after the park comes into view. There’s already a few families, inkfish, jellyfish, and others roaming the park gleefully.
"We are here."

"Welp. There's many fixes for indoors--- But outdoors? Unavoidable!" Frye remembers her little camping trips with Deep Cut-- Again, she normally handled the food part of their outings. But... Shiver did provide most of the gear, including bug repellent. Frye takes out her phone-- And goes through some old camping photos...
"I guess if you have veranda, you could light up those electric bug lights--- Or even wear bug spray." Again, her eels... or garden eels would eat up those pesky bugs. She remembers her grandma's home remedies too... When ever she was back home there was bugs everywhere! And her grandma would spray her and her siblings down in this homemade spiced spray that would ward off bug bites! "if you don't like wearing the stuff you find in stores, we can make outta herbs and spices! Like a perfume!!!"
"Oooh, electric bug lights... both pretty and dangerous..."
Julian snickers, he could already picture his balcony becoming an easier time to be in with one hanging there. (He'd just have to remind Lil Buddy it wasn't for him. It would be for the bugs!!)
"The stuff in stores smell too funny for me. Plus, taste gross."
He pauses.
"...Not like... I don't spray it in mouth. Just if I eat something and had bug spray on... Very gross."
...Julian may willingly put strange things in his mouth (like the time he'd chewed on a bit of Styrofoam to see what it'd feel like) but that didn't mean he wanted Frye to think he did it often!
"...Maybe works on Glowflies. Back home with Salmonids I hide up high if Glowflies around... very bad bugs..."
"It’s my birthday it’s my birthday!!!"
Haru eagerly rushes around the house, this is the most excited he’s been for a while. Sylvia lifts a hand up from her spot on the pullout couch, waving to him. With the weather heating up, she’s already switched to sleeping on the couch instead of her room since it’s cooler in the living room than her bedroom.
"Happy birthday. I’ll get up in a second… Dad and Zach are already up too…"
"Splatsville Splatsville here we come! I get to meet Deep Cut and get my TableTurf cards signed!!”
"It's almost my birthday!"
Haru eagerly rushes around his house, grabbing a few things as Zach and Sylvia wait for him in the door. He grabs his Tri-Slosher, eagerly rushing to the door.
"Let's go let's go let's go!!"
He rushes past his siblings, Zach's eyes widening.
"Wait for me!!"
Zach soon ran after his brother, Apollo laughing softly as he follows after them. Zach and Haru would head to the Lobby to play turf together while Sylvia and Apollo ran a few errands.
"I think he's pretty happy."
"He's been feeling better this week. Wish I could say the same... If I'm a little slow, just keep going I'll catch up eventually."
"I'm not scared. I just don't want to make a scene. Or get shot at." Not the most convincing way to say they weren't scared. It wasn't as if they thought that would happen... they just didn't know what would happen. "But if you think it's safe, I'll take your word on it."
Honestly, going straight to the surface after being in the dark for so long was overwhelming. But what else could they do? They couldn't go home, they didn't want to go home, and they most certainly didn't want to stay where they were. Overwhelming was the best option they had.
"...just be patient, yeah? A lot to take in all at once, and I'm still getting used to being awake again." They adjusted their shades and nodded at her. "But if you're ready, so am I."
"I will not let anything bad happen to you."
Angel paused, a teasing smile on her face as she added her next words.
"Well, except for a bird possibly pooping on you. That I can’t do anything about other than offering you a tissue.”
She laughed softly, shaking her head. Realistically, there was only so much Angel could control (and she knew that) but that didn’t mean she wouldn’t try. If it was their first outing on the surface, she wanted to make it a good one! She tugged at the end of her sleeve, smiling at them.
"…I will never rush you… Honestly, even if you decided part way through the walk there you do not wish to continue, we can easily divert back to my apartment."
"...Happy Birthday to me."
Adria lounges on her couch, scrolling through her phone. Another year, another birthday. It's nothing really special to her. Julian, on the other hand, immediately texting her a happy birthday when he woke. Along with a blurry picture of Lil Buddy bouncing around.
"...Hah... At least it seems to be a good day already..."

"Ah don't worry-- I get it. Other squids and octos still gimme stares for havin' Kiwi as a friend." With all the Big Runs happening, the Salmonid kind was still getting a bad rep within these cities. Vio was trying to change that in his own way-- Not much progress, but ti was still progress regardless. "Kiwi knows when to keep his distance. He's a good boy!" Kiwi delightfully gurgles from Vio's shoulder when he hears the words 'Good Boy!'
"He won't attack anyone unless I tell 'em to." Sylvia knows all too well about that. And Kiwi nods his little head in agreement. More like he was bouncing his little chubby body. But it still got the point across. "As for the shop-- Its gettin' busy now that the wamr season is comin' around. I'm going to be travellin' all over Splatsville and Inkopolis for orders... I've been lookin' to hire some back up. But eh... I rather just do all the work myself."
"Hah... he is rather cute..."
She mumbles to herself, watching Kiwi. Progress was progress, regardless of how little it was. She's at least sitting next to Vio instead of standing from a distance...
She sits up a bit when Vio talks about hiring help for the shop. She's seen him manage it by himself pretty well, but considering the seasons changing, it's bound to get even busier. And if he's the only one there doing everything, it must cause a lot of burnout...
"Yeah? What kind of work you need done? If it's driving around, I'm sure I could rig up some storage on my bike to help. Or do something in the shop itself."
"Happy Mother's Day!!"

Clifford and Cordelia hold out a dessert they'd made for Meredith. Murray Sweets was open for Mother's Day, so they'd only had time in the morning to say it briefly before opening. But now that the cafe had slowed, both Cordelia and Clifford were able to give Meredith a few Mother's Day gifts.
"Oh! Thank you!"
Meredith smiled at them, they'd made her favorite: a simple but nicely decorated caramel apple angel food cake. There were a few sugar decorations on top too!
"Oh, and this is from Arius. Since he's with his Dad today he asked me to give it to you."
Cordelia holds out an origami lotus flower, decorated with a small origami butterfly on the inside of a petal. Meredith smiles softly, careful with the paper as she moves to set it behind the counter where it wouldn't tear or get messy.
"Oh, that's lovely. We better finish the desserts we're making for them before they get back."
Cordelia nods, already beginning to resume her work around the café. Arius and Takashi wouldn't be back until after dinner, they'd gone down to Octo Canyon for the day.
"...Today must be rough for them..."
Birds. Acht hadn't even considered that part of the surface experience. "I guess there are a lot of birds up here, right? I've only seen a couple... they didn't exactly want to get close to me." And they couldn't imagine that would have improved with their sanitization.
Of course, it wasn't just birds that they were worried about rejecting them. Acht followed after Angel, their body language nonchalant, but there was a concern in the back of their head. They'd never been the type to 'fit in' to begin with, but now, green and lifeless, among a crowd of people they'd been trained to hate, in a world they could never have imagined...
"...do you think it'll be alright? I don't know how people on the surface will react to me." Sure, octos had been gaining acceptance on the surface during the days they were still underground, but Acht wasn't exactly normal even among octos anymore.
Angel paused, glancing back at Acht. Right... She hadn't really thought about that. Acht was just Acht to her, regardless of their sanitization. Octolings were a bit more of a common sight on the surface now, but there were definitely people that still did a double take every so often. Or their gaze would linger a bit too long to be polite...
"I think it will be alright. I will be with you, and I am a familiar sight there to others that frequent it."
She smiled softly as she attempted to reassure them. Some would likely stare, others might say something (though usually it was just a kid asking curious questions), but hopefully most people would leave them alone. She added quietly:
"...We do not have to go if you do not wish to."

"Winging it mostly, though I do want to check how long the arcade is open."
Sylvia chuckled softly, making sure to hold tight to Koa's hand so she didn't lose the other girl in the crowd. She glanced around over most of the crowd's heads, letting out a soft "aha!" when she spotted a less crowded area. Some days her height was a curse to her, she couldn't count the amount of times she's nearly wacked her head on the top of a doorframe on her fingers anymore, but today it was a blessing.
"I see a less crowded spot we can sit for a few minutes."
She glanced back at Koa, smiling before leading her through the crowd towards a less populated spot.
"I'm not sure intimidated is the word I'd use. Just hard to wrap my head around it, really." By surface standards, they'd been 'indoors' their whole life. To be able to look straight up and know there was nothing above them, at all... it felt very strange. They'd always preferred small spaces, even in the domes, and the fact the outdoors wasn't just large, but didn't have an edge at all (at least not on their scale) was...
Okay, maybe they were a little bit intimidated.
At Angel's next suggestion, they nodded. "That sounds nice, actually." Marina would probably faint in shock if she heard that. Acht? Willingly going for a walk outside? It was very unlike them. But the way they saw it, they'd never truly been outside, and Acht was also the type who would try anything at least once. "Maybe you can show me some of your favorite spots."
Angel smiled, standing up. She moved to grab her phone, double checking the weather app before nodding to herself. Not too warm, not too cold. And very unlikely to rain that day, at least not until night fell.
"I know quite a few good spots, at least I think they are. There is a nice park nearby I frequent to feed the birds, and there is a wonderful café near Inkopolis Square. I go there quite often to visit a few friends and grab a bite to eat if I do not feel like cooking."
Angel rummaged through her bag, already looking for the feed she used for stray birds. She pulled out a few different items, setting them down and out of her way. She let out a soft “aha!” when she found the bag of feed.
"There’s quite a few flowers just outside the entrance too! We may even run into a crow who follows me around, I've named him Edgar. Do not worry if he lands on you, he will not nip at you."

She's not really sure what she's apologizing for, but either way she felt the need to say it... Kiwi didn't even do anything but just stand there, she really tried to get closer but as soon as the little Smallfry moved closer, she was hiding in her squid form.
"...He's so tiny, I know he won't hurt me... Yet it's like it's linked in my head that makes my body go into danger mode..."
She leans forward a bit, resting her chin on her hands.
