Getting to Know Laquanda Fields
This week I had the opportunity to sit down with our newest addition to the Text100 family, Laquanda Fields. I decided the best way to get to know Laquanda would be to ask her 15 random questions.
Before we dive in I’ll give you a little bit of background on our newest intern.
Laquanda is a true Rochestarian and has lived in Rochester all her life. She comes from a big family with three sisters and three brothers.
Laquanda has two, talented daughters Jaela and Samariyah with her best friend and partner, Bishop. Jaela, 10 is a ballet dancer, singer and a leader in training at their church. She is nurturing always makes friends with the outcast to help them feel accepted. Samariyah, 8 is her wild child, who loves gymnastics and just about anything else. She has huge personality with a knack for sarcasm and never misses an opportunity to make you laugh.
So know that you have a little background, without further ado here are 15 questions to help you get to know Laquanda a little better.
1. Would you rather win the lottery or work at the perfect job - and why?
Work at the perfect job. I think if I won the lottery I would get bored with spending money after a short period of time. I think it’s more important to have a passion in life and to do what you love.
2. What motivates you to work hard?
My daughters are my number one motivation for success. I’m also very goal oriented - there is one step after the next.Â
3. Have you ever had a nickname? What is it?
My adult nickname is Quanda - just a shortened version of my first name.Â
When I was a baby, it was Buddha - which was a reference to me being a chunky baby.
4. What are your hobbies?
#1 is exploring neighborhoods and looking at houses. I do that often with my daughters, and they’ve developed a likeness for it as well.
I also love organizing and planning things. I’m really a Rochester advocate. I love local events that are hosted by local businesses. There is a lot going on here, and it’s something that has strongly developed in the last 3-5 years.Â
5. List two of your pet peeves.
I’m working to minimize the list...
Miscommunication, misspelled words and bad grammar. I’m also easily annoyed when things are not in the right place.Â
6. What’s the most daring thing you’ve ever done?
I’m not a daredevil at all. I’m very cautious, and always look before I leap. When I was younger, though, I used to be very into piercings.
I also went to London for school and I think that was the most adventurous thing I’ve done. I learn by doing, so I would often travel the city and explore by using the subway system.Â
7. What’s your favorite family recipe?
My favorite thing to make is baked spaghetti. The recipe is from Trisha Yearwood. I also make an iceberg bacon cheddar salad, with homemade ranch dressing.
8. What was your favorite subject in school?
English. I loved reading and writing at a very young age, going to the library and I even had a little library in my bedroom. I would devour a book each day.
Now, my girls like to read too!
9. Is there anything you wished would come back into fashion?
One of my guilty pleasures is old sitcoms - like Mary Tyler Moore, Lavern and Shirley and Breakfast at Tiffany’s. I also love 70′s and 50′s fashion, like women in full skirts and things like that.Â
10. Do you consider yourself an introvert or an extrovert?
Introvert. I enjoy talking to people, but I’m drained very easily by too much interaction. By the end of the day, I’m physically exhausted. I prefer staying in and spending quality time with my family.Â
11. What was your first job?
I was an after-school care assistant at St. Monica’s Catholic School. I was so anxious to get a job, but you have to be 14 years old to get a working permit in New York State. So, as soon as I turned 13, I started working and I haven’t been without a job since.
12. If you had to describe yourself as an animal, which one would it be?
Cat - I’m an introvert! I like to interact when I want to, so I have a lot of similarities with cats.Â
13. Would you rather visit Europe or Mexico?
Europe - I want to take my girls back-packing across Europe.Â
Wine! White - I’m a Riesling fan.
15. If money was no object, what would you do all day?
I would travel and renovate houses. I would demolish, paint and put up drywall, and make my own version of Habitat For Humanity.
