I was going through old drawings from years and years ago and found this old ethel from just 2 years back. something about the simplicity of this dumb sketch gave me the words I’ve been looking for. I haven’t really pieced together how heavy the goodbye to ethel cain was to me. preachers daughter was all I started it out with when drawing these characters. but the more I drew them, the deeper my connection to them grew. I feel like I learned things about them that weren’t exactly spelled out for me. and when willoughby tucker (the album) came along I fell even deeper into deciphering these characters and really knowing them as much as I could. there’s so much more I want to know. I know they’re gone now, cemented in a frame of time I can’t rewind to, but I don’t think I could ever stop drawing them.
