My ideas for TMA & ST Crossover AU Avatars: (Again, hugely inspired by @teeteatess’s AU)
Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4
Eddie Munson: Avatar of The Flesh
Fear of being slaughtered like an animal, being nothing more than meat and bones, and being raised to die.
Eddie developed a connection with The Flesh through the constant torment from people in Hawkins that believed he was lesser than them (classism, people thinking he’s a satanist, being a freak/outcast, etc), much like an animal.
He only began to truly fear the idea when a group of jocks (Jason and Co) blamed him for the disappearance of Chrissy Cunningham, and relentlessly hunted him down for it, nearly killing him before the police got involved. After that he developed a state of constant paranoia that people were out to get him, that he was nothing more than a scapegoat to them.
The Flesh also plays into his ideals about society, and how people are treated like cattle in corporate society, and how he hated the idea of being another cog in the machine that would lead to his inevitable death.
His connection to The Flesh solidified upon his discovery of a Leitner book, which slowly consumed his mind, creating a deep fascination with flesh, bones, and dead animals.
Eddie disappeared from Hawkins in 1986, although no body was ever found. In reality, he simply left to serve The Flesh, and he’ll often stay at the Creel House, should the need arise.
He’s been watching over the Party as he sees fit, but never gets too close to them, in fear of him hurting them, or them seeing what he’s become.
Billy Hargrove: Avatar of The Hunt (Marked by The Desolation)
Fear of being chased or hunted, and of being prey.
The Hunt first took ahold of Billy when he started lashing out at people to take out his anger, which quickly turned into him seeking out fights and making people feel small. This was reflected in his behavior towards Max, although he always resented himself for it, but was unable to stop.
His fear of being hunted/being prey comes from the abuse he endured from his father, specifically how his father would take any opportunity to make him feel small and helpless.
The Hunt fully took him in 1985, when during a beating from his father, he nearly died, but chose to embrace The Hunt instead, attacking his father with an animalistic strength, maiming and killing him. By the time the police arrived (Max having called them), he had fled, and has yet to be found.
He spent the next few years hunting down people like his father and preying on their fear, although he’ll settle for just about anyone if he thinks they deserve it.
He’s connected to The Desolation through his tendency to cause as much pain and suffering as possible to his victims, as well as his own fears.
He’ll often go on hunting trips with Eddie and Nancy, since their domains are so alike, and the fear they feed on is so similar to each other’s. They get along surprisingly well, and end up joining forces when needed.
He wasn’t aware of The Party until they found him, and he almost killed them before Steve stepped in to calm him down.
