New Business Day 1
The picture above shows a bit how I feel right now - flying high with an uncertain landing!
I quit my job of 13 years to pursue my passion for technology. Today is my first day as an entrepreneur!
Since I wanted to document the process and I still had the blog up, I decided to continue posting here once again.
My old tech scavenger posts slowly diminished but my passion for innovation hasn't. I finally found something that with some elbow grease, some luck, and the right execution could change how organizations all over the world do business! I'm super excited to be a key player in this process.
Going forward, my goal is to post here regularly, to help people get a moment to moment take on what it is like to start a business.
Today I was tying up some lose ends from my old job, getting my office situated, old work phone ported, and my first business trip planned to meet with my partner in Maui (I know, rough right?). To say I'm excited is a huge understatement, but man, if I wasn't still a bit tired after putting the kids down tonight!
I had my first noob-businessman embarrassment today as well... I came up with a name for our business that seemed to allude to our overall goals as an organization, etc, AND it appeared to be a name that was not yet taken! Wooh! So I called a lawyer who I wasn't really sure about to begin with, to go ahead and setup an S-Corp with the name I had in mind. He gets back to me immediately and says "uh, Josh, that's taken already. Didn't you check the website?"
What website? Well apparently the state of california has a convenient site to check business names and it somehow works even better than Bing.
If you're going to start a business in California, remember to check here first! http://kepler.sos.ca.gov/
Oh, and sorry for being a bit vague. I promise I'll get better! I have to keep some things under wraps until we're ready to go!
