(I had an idea and no one stopped me)
Experimented with using the school's laser engraver and cutter to cut out small feathers today - it unfortunately did not work. The guy helping me today has very patiently put up with my shenanigans for the last 3 months as I tested using acrylic for hydraulic press molds and experimented with trying to cut things with the laser that it wasn't meant to cut. He apparently also works with the fiber optics lab (I didnt even know we have one of those!) and is pretty confident that the cutter there can handle 30-odd gauge aluminum. I spent a few hours cutting out little feathers by hand and a few hours making feather outlines so I'm covered either way... I'd like the machine to crank out the smallest feathers, but I'm definitely not counting on it.
I've been leafing like crazy and starting clear coating and I'm still making more feathers.
I know I've done a lot of work on this project but I also feel like there's so much left to do that it seems like nothing has been done

Training on the new instrument is good because it will give interesting data and allow us to explore all sorts of new things.
