emily was born into a home that was not the warmest. she was very sheltered and was very curious about the world. if she spoke too much or asked too many questions, her parents shut down, shutting her out, and leaving her with nothing but her desire to find the answers on her own. they werenāt always cruel and they showed moments of promise, but their way of expressing love was by dressing her up in fancy clothes and buying her things she never wanted or needed. she grew up well off, but incredibly naĆÆve.Ā Ā
she was desperate for love because she never felt it at home. she wanted so badly for someone to look at her like she were the stars in the sky or like she was the only one who lit up the darkness in their troubled minds. for most of her adolescence it was met with fake friends and creepy guys who looked but never dared to touch because they knew her father would probably kill them. the more she felt the suffocation of her lack of knowledge, the more she wanted to find out all the dark and hidden secrets of the world.
the first real boyfriend she had was at fourteen. she had dated around, but never scratched the surface of what she needed or thought she wanted. he was a sweet guy on the surface, but he showed his ugly head soon enough. she lost her virginity young, she didnāt even know what was going on until it happened and when she tried to tell her parents, she was almost kicked out for even trying to bring up sex. so she learned about it on her own. and it was a cruel thing to learn on her own.
when the world became too much for her and people made her feel like she was drowning in an endless sea of disappointment, she would run to the piano. she had been playing since she was a child and it always brought her great comfort. it was her first love, really. her passion poured into each key and she dreamed of doing it professionally one day.
but she continued her studies as her parents planned out for her. they wanted her to have a serious job, whatever that really meant, and were not the biggest lover of the arts. emily did as she was told to avoid conflict, but when she wasnāt focusing on school, she was growing more reckless and wild by the day. she was sneaking out, kissing strangers, and searching for love.
she had always dreamed of her wedding day. she had dreamed of some prince whisking her away and giving her the love she craved more than anything. she dreamed of a lavished ceremony and a forever love.
she was in college when she met barkis at a bar. he was older than her, he was charming, and emily fell for him hard and fast. he told her he loved the way she lit up a room and danced when no one was watching. and for two years they carried on their relationship, public with everyone but her parents. and when her parents found out...they tried to stop the relationship in its tracks. they told emily she needed to focus on school and get her head out of the clouds. this only brought her closer to barkis.
and then they planned to run away and get married. emily stole her motherās old wedding dress, the family jewels, and some money just so that they could have the wedding of her dreams. she waited for him at the cemetery she often dragged him to so they could hook up. she always had such an admiration for the dead. she never thought that night was going to be the night she was supposed to join them.
she remembers red, pain, and then nothing. she woke up next to a stranger with sharp teeth who told her she was given a second chance at life. the catch was that her heart no longer beat and she was...well, still dead. dead but not doomed. the vampire that saved her took her in, gave her a home and a new life. she still lived in coolsville, but she no longer was tied to her old life. it was amazing and heart-breaking how people mourned for her as she adjusted to her new life. she lived in coolsville her entire life and yet no one truly remembered who she was. it made it easier to change her hair and her look, embrace her death, and keep moving. she stayed in the more magically occupied places in coolsville. most of those homes were hidden to the human eye and she liked it that way.
in the beginning, her only goal was revenge. she wanted to find barkis and destroy him as he destroyed her life. she was forever twenty-three and it wasnāt fair that he got to live his life playing the part of a grieving boyfriend. she couldnāt even hear his name without getting violent towards everything in her path.
and then she met victor. his vows, his ring; he made emily want more than the anger she felt in herself. he made her want to....want to have a future again. he was so sweet and timid, and she felt bad for taking his ring a little bit, but she swore she loved him the moment she saw him underneath the moonlight. he saw through the monster she now was and made her feel human again. for a bit she tried to do everything to not feel human again,...and now it is all she wants. to be human was to be with victor.
she has a job as a waitress and that is all and fine. work is just work to her so she doesnāt really try to make it more than that.
she spends a lot of time wandering animania. sometimes to feed, sometimes to dance with strangers, sometimes to see the world through victorās eyes. now that she is free she never wants to waste a second of her time again.
sometimes she checks in on her parents. she knows it would be better if she didnāt, but she wonders if they have been trying to heal. her father had sadly passed away not long after she was left for dead from the grief. she visits his grave weekly and talks to him and tries to watch over her mother when she can. it wasnāt their fault she died. she didnāt blame them for it.
she has several butterfly tattoos scattered along her body. she always felt tied to them and whenever something important or memorable happens, she remembers it with another butterfly.
she doesnāt like this, but she cannot stand blood bags. they make her sick. so she has to feed straight from a body. the issue with that is she has a habit of getting carried away. she has tried her best to get it all under control and some days are better than others. she just...wishes she could get used to it.
she doesnāt trust many people these days. she is a spitfire and she can hold her own now, and now that she has seen how ugly the world can be, she wants to protect what is left of herself from it.
still, she is a romantic at heart. she still plays the piano, she still reads her poetry books with the moonlight to help her see the words. she wants nothing more than to find someone with the same love language as her. and she really hopes it is victor. she just really hopes he chooses her.
