The arguments about whether or not Zuko swears are getting too removed from the source material. Here’s what happened:

When Zuko joins the gaang, he has been living with his father for a few months, and has gotten out of the habit of swearing because there’s no way such ~foul language~ would fly in that house (er, palace). And at first, he assumes the gaang is just a bunch of goody-two-shoes, and figures he better not swear now either, because he is trying to be a goody-two-shoes. But then Aang drops the F-bomb on, like, their second day of firebending training, then Toph calls Sokka a little bitch later that afternoon. So, he concludes swearing is fine, and lets a “shit” slip out during dinner that night, and Katara (who was not present for the other swearing altercations) drops all the water from the fountain on him. At last.

Honestly, there were very few things that Zuko disliked about poetry, and even then, disliked was a strong word.

That, however, changed pretty quickly into the semester.

Zuko had never met anyone who was more of a menace than Sokka–this out of control boomerang-obsessed kid.

No matter what style they read or talked about, Sokka found ways to bring math into it. No matter what poem they read, he found ways to interpret them in the most ridiculous (and not even in a creative-ridiculous way) ways imaginable.

Zuko used to believe there was no wrong interpretation of poetry, but Sokka proved him wrong real quick.
