ok actually post investigated before I hit send thanks to the wonder of calibre e-reader software's search function. He says it twice: Once, when politely requesting Grace go check the taumoeba breeding tanks, and, hilariously, once when telling him to shut the fuck up about television.
The usage is so funny. Not sure if its an intentional thing by Weir, or just a quirk of his writing- because Grace also rarely uses please. (Except for when he was pleading for his life.)
But in the screenshot above, Rocky uses it not to add politeness to a request to share findings, but only used when adding emphasis to a request for Grace to PLEASE shut the fuck up about earth pop culture. I'm crying. What is his fucking problem. King of directness.

Not to be all "the children have forgotten the sacred texts!" but I just saw someone refer to a ship between two people who are good friends in canon as a crackship.
Hon. No. Crackship doesn't just mean "not canon". It's difficult to imagine two people who spend significant canon time together as a crackship. Crackship is when you write Galactus getting fucked by Tony the Tiger.

the book scene where dubois and shapiro tell grace they’re having sex is really interesting. it’s not just that’s he’s uncomfortable talking about sex (although he very much is) it’s that he doesn’t understand why they would have sex if one of them is guaranteed to die in space soon. they kind of included this in the movie (when he asks stratt why everybody is partying and hooking up if they’re all gonna die)
there’s another line that stood out to me in the book, where amnesiac grace initially finds his dead crewmates, and he goes “i hope they weren’t friends of mine!” which imo is a crazy thing to say upon finding two corpses
it’s not just that grace avoids forming close relationships, it’s that he avoids it (in part) in order to avoid experiencing loss. really interesting character trait especially knowing he has no immediate family (did they die? is that why he’s like this?) not even a pet (is he scared the pet will die?)
Based off a conversation with oomf about Grace teaching his class about Earth animals but he really fucking sucks at drawing so most Eridians’ perspective of Earth animals is shit
all the other weird fucked up cats are safe and happy and healthy btw
