Alright I swear this is still a taz blog but let me just speak on the current Critical Role discourse for a sec.
So “She” by Dodie is a song explicitly about a girl having feelings for another girl and the internalized homophobia she experiences because of that. It’s a good song. It’s an important song. It’s a song that I, as a pansexual woman who’s had crushes on (what I assumed to be) straight friends before, relate to a lot.
That being said, I can definitely see how Liam could see the song as relating to Caleb’s feelings for Jester- the doubt and fear over wanting someone you feel like you’re not supposed to want. Personally, I was okay with Liam adding the song to the playlist. It’s not what Dodie intended for the song, but I put different meanings to songs than what was originally intended all the time.
However, I also understand why people may be uncomfortable with the song being used to represent a heterosexual crush and anyone who was made uncomfortable had every right to speak up (as long as they did so nicely of course). I understand that everyone has different views and opinions on things so something that doesn’t bother me may bother someone else, and that’s fine.
I think Liam handled it wonderfully. He wasn’t trying to offend or make anyone uncomfortable, he just didn’t realize it would be a problem for some people. And why would he? I’m queer as hell and I didn’t even realize the song choice was problematic until others pointed it out.
So like, it’s perfectly valid to be uncomfortable, it’s perfectly fine if you asked to have the song taken off the playlist, it’s okay to be upset or disappointed at Liam. But can we also give him credit for listening to the community and fixing it so quickly? Can we not attack people for mistakes they make just because they don’t know any better???
And don’t get me started on the shipping stuff. Don’t attack people because the fictional character they play in a D&D game isn’t pining after who you want them to. First of all, it’s a game. Second of all, it’s not even our game, it’s the cast’s and they can play it however they want. Third of all, don’t be an asshole to people because you feel like it.
Don’t forget to love each other.
you’re stuck living with your icon for a month have fun

My quick illustration of Rainer from The Adventure Zone Graduation! Step by step I’m coping with my artblock! P.s. by accident she looks like Rapunzel 😅
[ID: A digital painting of Rainer, a thin, light-skinned woman with long, straight blond hair that appears to blow to one side. She wears a fancy purple dress with gold trim, including skull designs in gold along the shoulders and in the middle of the waist. She smiles at the viewer as she sits in her chair, with her hands, which have long and sharp black nails, folded over her lap. The chair is large and has a cushioned red back. Along the top are skulls with glowing yellow, red, and green eyes. End ID.]

The main difference between Travis McElroy and Travis Willingham is that Travis McElroy romanced a character played by his actual real-life brother while Travis Willingham is reluctant to romance a character played by his actual, real-life wife.
But anyway, both of these men are valid. We stan the Travises of D&D

Ned: Why do Bigfoot hunters try to lure him with a mating call? Do they have a game plan for if a squatch comes barreling towards them out of the woods full tilt with a raging boner?
Agent Stern: What the fuck do you think the point of finding Bigfoot is?
