The second of two gifts I did for the @rt-gift-exchange! Cover image by @jaal-ama-daravv, Haveloch borrowed from the inestimable @taythecatfey
Clouds drifted back over the moon, dulling the light and softening the shadows. There was something… almost lonely, to the way Haveloch stood silhouetted on his balcony, smoking. Such was the fate of the God-Emperor’s chosen, perhaps—to stand above and apart.
“I am not keeping you from your rest, am I?” asked Solomorne.
“Naaah. To be honest, I don’t think I’ll be able to sleep for a while yet.”
“I see.”
“If you aren’t likely to, either, you could join me. If you wanted.”
It was a simple offer. Simple as Heydari’s candor, and the darkness often present under Haveloch’s eyes. Solomorne had assumed the earlier offer was Heydari’s idea—and perhaps it was—but he wondered if what he initially believed to be a motive of mischief was something… simpler. Softer.
