hi loves! please click the source link for tay’s google doc, or the read more for a summary/blurb about her personality. you can also access the doc here.
tw: death, cancer
tay’s mother died in childbirth after moving to america from south korea while pregnant.
at first, she was sent to an orphanage. this orphanage was very harsh, very cruel to the children, and one of the staff members knew what tay was. she would constantly berate tay and blame her for her mother’s death, saying she was a curse on people.
she was adopted at age five by a french/korean family who works for the business aspect of nemean lion.
she gains an older brother, leo, four years her senior.
leo is diagnosed with late stage cancer when tay is only eleven, and has a rough, long, painful battle.
tay can sense his imminent death but tries to stay optimistic. still, knowing her powers, her brother begs for relief. he knows he’s going to die anyway, and doesn’t want to suffer anymore. tay tries to resist, but he’s in so much pain, and finally, at age twelve, when she’s officially in danger, she induces her brother’s death.
tay’s parents don’t blame her, in fact, they can see that her power is not a cruel one, it is benevolent. she can help people be free of their suffering, allowing them to choose when they die, instead of waiting for death to come to them.
though she still harbors guilt for her brother, she sees the potential, and pursues a medical career, wanting to save lives, and make them as painless as possible.
her kind personality makes her face being the last one someone sees a comfort and a blessing as she holds their hand to ease them into death.
personality:
articulate
good-natured
meticulous
scholarly

Sila doesn’t believe luck comes from fortune cookies but she won’t be a downer. “Hey, Tay.” Sila says kindly but passively, coming to pick up a to-go order. She’s loyal to a fault to one person in particular, her sister, so maybe she’s let things get a little weird around Taylor against her better judgement. She looks to her side at her again and engage, “Hm. And what would that look like? Two pairs of socks, eating two of everything, only stepping in multiples of two?” Sounds a bit ridiculous to do for an entire day for un-promised luck.
“sila, hi,” tay says, masking her surprise well, and any discomfort the interaction brings her is buried far beneath the surface. she doesn’t think she has the greatest pokerface or anything, but she doesn’t really fault sila for keeping her distance, all things considered, that just doesn’t soften the blow of it all. “i do prefer even numbers, so i guess it wouldn’t be all bad.” eating two of everything sounds like a lot. “maybe i’ll just buy my cat two new toys.” a pause. “i got a cat.” she’s not sure if sila follows her on instagram or not.
“I don’t think those are actually gonna work as your lucky numbers, though maybe it means you should buy yourself an extra treat today,” Cece chuckles. “Is it bad that I forget to read the fortune sometimes and just scarf down the cookie?” Clearly, she’s not superstitious.
“lucky numbers just means i get to have more snacks?” tay repeats, intentionally a bit more literal with it as a joke, smiling in return. “no, i don’t think so. i have an extra, do you want it?” she holds out the wrapped fortune cookie. “i actually didn’t care for fortune cookies as a kid, they weren’t sweet enough for me.”
“what am i supposed to do with the knowledge of my lucky numbers?” tay asks curiously as she reads hers off the piece of paper she’s pulled out of her fortune cookie. “i’m unfamiliar with that particular luck tradition, but i’m wondering if i should do things in twos today.”
it takes every ounce of effort tay has not to look out of the corner of her eye, and she feels so awkward and out of place that she wishes she had a more useful power that could allow her to disappear. she can sense that no, she won’t drop dead of embarrassment right now, and that’s honestly a shame. the walk to the storage of supplies feels like miles and she feels emotionally winded when they arrive. “here. help yourself to whatever you need, we’re well stocked.”
“Thanks.” Kaia helped herself to gauze, an icy prickle skirting along the pit of her stomach. In literature, books described embarrassment as heat from the swarm of blood flow, but Kaia tended to run cold when the beast of that emotion caught up with her. Another trait that told Kaia that something in her was amiss. She cleared her throat, supplies tucked under her arm, and nearly made it to the exit before she stopped herself. Turned to face Taylor. “You look beautiful,” she signed. It was a festival after all, weren’t people supposed to be happy at these things? But that was the extent of kindness she could offer before she felt as if she were freezing. Kaia cleared her throat again, and, without another word, left.

❝ like — ❞ she elongated the i as she tried stalling , thinking of another body part , ❝ — my butt , which isn’t as nice cause that mean’s i’d be talking out of my ass which i definitely am not , ❞ her smile was wide as she was proud of her pun . ❝ that’s so valid , though , i’d also want to keep this cutie to myself . ❞ she gave her friend a nonchalant shrug , ❝ i mean , there’s nothing else i’d ask him for , to be honest , i can poof whatever i need . ❞
“i don’t know what i was expecting you to say, but it definitely was not that,” tay says with a giggle, though maybe miri shouldn’t be able to catch her off guard anymore. but tay’s usually pretty easily caught off guard, she’s so careful with her own words. she often envies those who aren’t. “well you can visit him as long as he’s mine for sleep time.” no overnight sleepovers for bunsen! “still, it’s the principle of it all.”
“That’s extremely valid. Neither do I.” She once considered getting a pet that could accompany her on missions for convenience, but ultimately, Dahlia decided she’d rather not have to worry about an animal companion while fighting off dangerous forces. “Yeah, I’ve tried before. They said they were okay, but noped out last minute when they got near Katya. Which is fine. I get it,” she says with a shrug. “Ha. Yes. Sometimes we tell our pets the things we need to hear.”
“i actually considered a dog, because i do like to do daily runs, but then i did some research and learned apparently dogs joining their humans for a run isn’t actually great for them.” something about how dogs were built for sprinting, not endurance running, but that had been enough for tay to be deterred and settle on a pet that won’t rely on her for exercise. “oh, that’s unfortunate. i understand the fear, but with you there, they should trust things will be fine.” that makes her smile. “he’ll remind me to get over myself.”
“i think taking care of another living thing always makes you feel like an adult.” like older siblings who are forced to act as caretakers for younger siblings are always forced to grow up quicker, because only adults should be in charge of another life, but that doesn’t mean all adults are good at it. “and knowing you’re ready for the responsibility is also a super adult thing. what would cat for short for?”
“that’s a very good point. i certainly feel grown up in the infirmary or at the hospital.” but also lost and confused, though the older she gets, the more tay thinks that feeling never quite goes away and that people with their lives seemingly together are just faking it until they make it. “you know, i’m not sure. i’m not great with names, as you’ve probably guessed.”
“ anything’s better than astrid getting a look at these. ” she shrugs, letting tay lead the way. as long as someone covered them with bandages, june could always convince her sister that they weren’t worth fussing about if someone else already looked at them. technically, she wouldn’t be lying. “ thanks for the help, by the way. i’m sure you have better things to worry about. i just slipped and got too close to the bonfire. but they don’t even hurt, especially when i don’t touch them, so it’s probably fine! right? ”
“then sure, happy to help,” tay says with a smile. she often wishes she had actual healing abilities, considering her inclination for medicine, but at least she’s making the best of it. “it’s my job, please,” she says politely but dismissively, never willing to accept gratitude for just doing what she loves, small injuries or not. “burns can be quite serious, but i think you would know if you had a really bad one.” she takes juniper’s hands when they reach her station, inspecting them. “no, you should find these heal nicely, nothing too serious. the ointment is going to sting though. fair warning.”

Kaia nodded. Under normal circumstances, she would have bristled at the other’s turned back, at the rudeness of being shut out. However, she was thankful for the reprieve, a brief interlude where she could catch her own breath and calibrate her emotions to neutral. Or, more importantly, to appear unbothered. She fell in step with Taylor, hands at her side. What was there to say?
it takes every ounce of effort tay has not to look out of the corner of her eye, and she feels so awkward and out of place that she wishes she had a more useful power that could allow her to disappear. she can sense that no, she won’t drop dead of embarrassment right now, and that’s honestly a shame. the walk to the storage of supplies feels like miles and she feels emotionally winded when they arrive. “here. help yourself to whatever you need, we’re well stocked.”
ginny linked her arm with tay as she passed, making a quick detour to walk with the other girl. “look, just like, don’t freak out or anything,” she whispered, glancing over her shoulder. “but can i borrow your look for maybe 5 minutes?”
with @taylorjeung !
tay can’t imagine anything good can come after the demand not to freak out, and her guard is immediately up, though she keeps herself relaxed before she hears what she’s not supposed to freak out about. “for what purpose would you be borrowing my look though?”
❝ YES , LIKE A TWO - PIECE SET . do you think they’d become good friends ? ❞ mina sure hoped so , especially considering the matching names . still , a part of her was reluctant to ever have a pet again . it had been years since juni’s passing , she knew it wasn’t her fault , but still … the thought of foreseeing the death of someone she loved so dearly on accident was still a great fear of hers , even though the woman was as careful as one can be . with taylor’s approval , the brunette nodded and placed the toy on the counter as the two waited for the employee to come back . ❝ do you think he’ll be a very active kitty , or a lazy one ? i think both have their perks but , knowing you , a lazy cat would probably be a good thing . ❞ especially when taylor was a fairly busy person , considering all the things people in the medical track had to do .
“you know, i was going to say that i feel like more often than not, domesticated pets like each other, but i don’t want to say something inaccurate and get our hopes up.” any sort of pet the two of them are drawn to though surely will get along, considering they seem to have similar desires in what they want out of a pet. she’s eager about having a cat, despite the hesitance she feels about the fact that all life inevitably has to end, and that she has the power to end it. “a lazy cat would be best, yes,” tay says with a smile. “he likes naps apparently, but i won’t mind if he’s a bit feisty either.” she just wants some company, really, and maybe admitting that to herself will make her actually do better about spending time with people.

location: first aid tent
Ghosting was the most effective in the following scenarios: when one never saw the person being ghosted again, or when one literally died. The concept of ghosting could not fully apply when you constantly faced your ex around the Nemean Lion campus. Or when you volunteered under the same tent at community events. Kaia would know. Her hand waved to catch Taylor’s attention, only out of necessity. “Hey.” Signed, not spoken. “Do you have extra gauze?”
it’s embarrassing how quickly a lump forms in tay’s throat, how instantly thrown out of her routine she is. she’s haunted by ghosts constantly, but those are just memories of people who are actually gone, people who she doesn’t have to face. she doesn’t quite know how to handle someone who feels gone but isn’t. still, at least she doesn’t have to talk. her sign language is still strong, allowing her to speak around the lump in her throat. “yes, this way.” and she turns her back as she heads for her station, not ready to look at kaia for too long just yet.
“Are you going to participate in the water dunk tank?” Looks over at the person that she’s speaking to as if taking them in for a moment but really she’s not thinking about anything. “It would be an honor to make the throw that would get you drenched.”
“oh, i didn’t sign up, no,” tay says after a slightly too long pause, not realizing she’s the one being spoken to as she takes a lunch break. “i’m planning to stop by the booths though, while i’m just taking a break. do you have a good throwing arm to dunk someone?”

“this seems like a good first time, then.” especially if her roommate is equally as excited for a new pet. “i’ve never had a cat, but that sounds accurate. some people are like that, too, in fairness.” mara doesn’t ignore people, she just…makes herself invisible if she doesn’t want to talk. literally. “it’s cute, you can even call him bunny for short.” sORRY?! “or robbie, unless that would be confusing?”
“it’s strange, even though not everyone wants a pet, getting a pet still feels like a natural part of becoming an adult.” or maybe that’s just how tay feels because she focuses so much on life stages: graduate, job, marriage, house, etc. she thinks about life too much, probably. “true, myself included, just because sometimes i’ll zone out.” certainly not unique to her, of course. “a cat named bunny, i do appreciate the humor in that. next i need a bunny named cat.”
