There have been kids I've seen who immediately post pictures of their face in photo-sharing channels, but it gets worse than that. They've posted baby pictures, pictures of them with friends and family members (mentioning those people by name as well) pictures at locations with captions relating that location to where they live ("me at the park by my house!") pictures of them at school.

If you are on semi-decent terms with these kids, and you ask, they'll often tell you what state they live in. Plenty of kids outside the U.S. will straight up tell you what country they live in as if to brag. If you ask someone what time it is for them out of concern that they're staying up to late, they'll tell you what time zone they live in and often end up talking about sleep schedule, home life, etc.

Kids will turn on their cameras in a public vc if someone else has theirs on too. Kids will feel embarrassed that they're on mute in a vc and always explain it with "my mic isn't working," never, "I'm not comfortable sharing my voice"

They'll share personal information like interpersonal relationships those in the server aren't a part of. They'll link their other social medias, even private ones. They'll introduce themselves in introduction channel with real name, age, and often their neurodivergency or even their triggers. And if you have a vent channel, they'll use it like a substitute therapist.

If you're a minor in a public Discord server, I get that you want to make friends, I really do. But you have GOT to be so careful in these situations. You CANNOT trust people, no matter how nice they are to you. You should ALWAYS exercise caution when operating and being part of a discord server. Please, this is not me being a wet blanket, this is me trying to help you be safe.

i love my american friends on here but the countries culture as a whole is so draining and one sided, its hilarious and pathetic at the same time

i hate to say it but i kind of agree with what you said. but then again, tumblr is an american centred site. it's difficult to get news about your OWN country out there when you're here. i still very vivdly remember when we were here during the second wave blogging left right and centre trying to raise awareness and share resources and trying to get it trending because people were dying every minute. finally we managed to get it trending on #5 and we started getting some traction on our resource posts.

and then i remember someone sent an anonymous ask to @ginazmemeoir saying that they supported us for covid and all but we shouldn't be stealing the spotlight from the blm movement (which was trending at #1). like...i totally get your issues but you don't have to be so insensitive???? nobody is stealing the spotlight from you. we all have our issues and we should support each other instead of making this a competition. it is not a competition because actual people are dying. that was a time of extreme crisis for us.

people were dying on the streets. i lost so many of my relatives, including my grandfather, because of the bed and oxygen shortage. i stayed up nights calling every single oxygen company i could find from resources on tumblr, twitter and instagram. we were all on here trying our FUCKING BEST to get resources out there for people who were dying and needing them. that is not 'stealing the spotlight'. i fully support the blm movement and i do try to signal boost any posts about it i see but i wish we would get the kind of support for our causes that americans expect from everyone on this site for theirs (not to say that the racism faced by black people isn't a global issue. but you get what i mean. it's a cause backed very largely by americans).

i've observed this a lot with other countries' issues, too. whenever serious problems crop up in other countries and people make posts about them, they never gain the same traction as american news or movements. again, you could say that that's because most of the user base is american. but i'm just venting here.

i wanted to burn that anon alive. i've lost so many from my extended family, my grandfather almost died, the doctors we know personally are all in deep depression from being surrounded with constant death, and this fucker has the audacity to even think of this while we were turned into a country of graves and crematoriums?

the thing is : americans expect almost everybody else to know about their problems and movements, and also support them - yet us expecting the same of them is "unrealistic" because "they can't know what happens in each county can they"

i absolutely support blm. but if you expect me to keep up to date with american politics and movements, i expect the same of you with respect to my country. so yes, i would love it if you supported the farmers protests (going on for a year now), or the dalit movement, or really just any other movement.

but 90s kid syndrome hit and this happened
