i really really really love lestat
i feel like a lot of people don’t understand that Claudia’s defining trait as a character is the fact that she is a memory. she is a concept. i keep seeing people complain that “she was out of character in the seance scene” or that “she would never say that.” but you don’t know what she would say!! everything we know about Claudia is someone else’s interpretation of who she is—INCLUDING the seance scene, which is still in lestat’s perspective. even on the rare occasion when she does speak for herself, we’re still seeing her through someone else’s eyes. we will never know Claudia’s version of the story because she is dead.
something thats been bugging me about the fandom's reaction to the Magnus and Lestat scene in ep 3 is the fact that some people dont believe it's actually rape. That you need to see perpetration or for them to be nude for it to be considered rape.
there's been a growing consensus in the fandom that Lestat is not a victim of rape or assault at the hands of both Magnus and his mother.
first of all, it's paralleled to Louis recounting Claudia's rape. The scene splits back and forth from her story to Lestat's in a very clear demonstration of showing the similarities between the two of them.
second, there's a warning in the beginning of the episode of depictions of SA.
another thing I believe turns people away from the idea of Lestat being a victim of rape is the fact that he was the clear antagonist of the first two seasons (which is intentional!!). the entire point of this series is to bring humanity to the monstrous. Lestat, Louis, Armand, Claudia, and Daniel are all bad people but at some point in the story thus far, have all been shown to have humanizing qualities. These things can exist at the same time. Abuse does not absolve any character or person of their own actions. It is just explanation and adds more layers and complexity to them.
I've seen many people complain about either making Lestat too sympathetic or Louis too mean this season. We are seeing different sides of these characters now. I dont velieve adding depth to characters means theyre changed. It's a show of how perspective changes how a character is perceived and portrayed. since it's through Lestat's perspective, we are going to be focused more on his inner workings and how he feels.
sorry for the ramble but ughhh... I fear that I am just frustrated going into this fandom. media literacy is dead
listen i will not hear a word against armand he is perfect he is stunning. it’s all ‘characters these days talk like they’re trying to get a good grade in therapy >:/‘ until you behead your 72-year rebound manipulationship and the shared ex he left you for so you can force his decapitated body to write apology notes by threatening the life of the girl you tricked him into paying to pretend to be his dead daughter who you killed. he even apologized for killing her ok he’s doing the 12 steps it’s called taking accountability it’s called healing
the rest of these mfs are all doing rampages and seances and writing diss tracks instead of going to therapy, meanwhile armand:
- admitted he had a problem
- sought professional help
- made armends with those he’s wronged
- took responsibility for the fledgling he abandoned
- helped daniel start a youtube channel and supported his career
- tried to prevent the apocalypse
yes he has killed and/or tortured almost every person he’s ever known but he was literally sad there’s nuance to these things

Even now, still thinking about him.
Second time's the charm.
i kind of hate it when they cast the same 10 superstars who are in literally everything in a movie. celebrity-sickness
not every movie needs to be an ensemble cast of timothee chalamet, zendaya, tom holland, robert pattinson, and anya taylor-joy

At a time when Netflix is getting roundly criticized for forcing its shows to treat the audience like we have all of two brain cells to rub together, The Vampire Lestat is out here volleying everything from 70s gay references to 1700s Dutch Republic references at the speed of light while saying, "You don't get it? Well, that's a fucking you problem."
And I love that for us.
