Sometimes, we do things

that we think will last forever.

But once in awhile,

we need a break to look back

You would really think

with our new technology,

I would not be here

filling out these forms that are

A new-ish method

of entertaining people

through their interests.

It calls back to radios

On one hand, they help

try to keep your life in line

to be efficient.

On the other, they force you

The guides of lost souls

patrol the worlds of beings

not to prey on them

but to help. And yet, these beings

Long wispy tendrils

cling to the burning embers

of these short incense.

They float and smear through alleys

Tunnels stretch beneath

an active, vibrant city

like lengthened tendrils.

And once in a while, train cars

Some are cordial

who woo you over with tours

comp and pleasantries.

Others go about with pride

The worst part about

getting your hair cut is not

sitting in the seat

but the drive back home with

Breaking my glasses

left me in a hazy world

I had forgotten.

And despite the differences

A device that’s now

more common in households than

a toaster oven.

Despite its constant usage

You come to my desk

to take pictures of my notes

without permission.

I tell you to write your own

Up in the mountains

there is a suspension bridge

over a river

and into a rainforest

Coworkers often bring

treats from their travels as gifts.

Such a “crime” I did

bringing maple candy back

You had asked me why

I feel so cold and distant

The truth is that we--

are changing to fit the world’s needs.

On a cold morning

I left Indy to head north

in search of my fate.

I left behind the corn fields

A strip of water

guts through the city until

it is stopped part way.
