I think we underestimate the value of "I am proud of you". One my friends, not even close friend, said this to me about something and I was so emotional, I teared up. I don't think anyone has ever said that to me.
Maybe once when I was 16, my family said something alons the lines of we are happy for you no matter the result of this exam. But even that is such a distant memory, I don't even remember what they said. It might have been the last time or first time, they were proud of me.
