as much as I love the avatar aang movie, it didn't really feel like an avatar plot, it feels like the characters got into a different fantasy world and did a plot from that world.
avatar has actually been a pretty low fantasy world in alta, lok changed that a bit with raava and vatu as eldritch abominations, but still, overall, most of the bad guys are just other people. Spirits have always existed in Avatar, but they tend to opperate on a specific set of rules.
In the movie though, there's a magical staff mcguffin that they're fighting over that if it's brought to a specific spot will turn a person into a demon with the power to bring a city form the spirit world into the human world. maybe it's just me, but it feels like a plot from a different fantasy series.
There's never been actual magical items in Avatar before this movie, bending and spiritual energy has things that can be discovered, but not really anything that breaks the rules they've already established. ex an earthbender can bend a rock, but specific ones can bend metal, while rarer ones can bend lava. It's still bending earth, just in different ways, they can't suddenly turn earth into metal or water. Aang learns to take away someone's bending in atla, Korra learns how to restore it in her story. Why does the avatar exist, because Wan and Raava permanently merged their souls during harmonic convergence.
I don't know, maybe it's just me, but the plot doesn't fit the avatar world. I didn't dislike the movie by any means, but it feels like the characters got isakai'ed into a different fantasy world to me. It's kind of what worries me about seventh Heavens trailer because of the same things.
