Just a Cut
Just one.
One small nick
One ounce of pain
To make it all go away
Just one.
One drop of blood
One beautiful red drop
To know that youāre okay
Just one.
One slice of the knife
You bought it for tonight
It needs to taste your blood
āJust onceā it whispers
Almost as if itās talking to you
Just a cut to appease the call
āJust once, and youāll be good
Only one time
One small slice on your wrist
Or maybe pick your thighs
Whichever produces the more drops
The blood seeps through
A deep sigh of relief
A temporary fix
For the pain and the grief
And you close your eyes
You bite your lip
As the blade in your hand whispers
āOne more taste. One more sip.ā
And suddenly one cut turns to one hundred
āJust a tasteā turns to drunkenness
The relief as you sigh makes you high
As the chemicals in your brain start to fly
The pain feels good
The blood feels like home
Until you finally come to
Until youāre not in the zone
Just one scream escapes your lips
Just one movement, and you drop the knife
You say to yourself as you drift to sleep
āJust one more time, tomorrow night.ā
The Phoenix
I am the Phoenix
The fiercest bird of prey
The one people call on
When the light begins to sway
I am the Phoenix
The most dangerous bird around
With fire in my eyes
And hellfire in my heart
Be wary of my sound
I am the Phoenix
The one to call your friend
Through darkness and shame
Despair and doubt
Iām with you til the end
I am the Phoenix
This road has been so rough
My wings are ragged
My claws are dull
Maybe Iām not so tough
I am the Phoenix
Iām weak and out of breath
Iām doubting myself, questioning
āAm I really the Phoenix?ā
As I give myself up to death
I am the Phoenix
Nothing can stop me now
The fire in my eyes has moved to my wings
The hellfire to my claws
I am the Phoenix
The bird of strength in war
No matter the arrow
Or how heavy the axe
Knock me down, and Iāll soar
I am the Phoenix
Nothing can stand against me
Iāve gone to hell and brought it back
Iāve seen death and laughed
For I rise again, ever stronger than you can think
I am the Phoenix
The guide to those who are lost
Through darkness and demons
Whether mountains or valleys
Iāll fight for their rescue whatever the cost
I am the Phoenix
The fiercest bird of prey
The one people call on
When the light begins to sway
Fail
The man stood, 3 stripes on the arms of his gown. A gown that was made a week ago. This was the very first formal college ever created, and he was the very first keynote speaker. The hot, Moroccan sun beat down on the students as he walked towards the front of the stage. This arena was used for sports-games that were made to challenge and entertain. Aamir took a breath, braced himself, and began.
āYou may think Iām standing up here with words of encouragement for you. Perhaps a few of you know who I am, and maybe most of you donāt, but I see in every eye here a wonder-hope. Hope for the future. Your professors asked me here today to give you a congratulatory speech. āMake it about success, and what it means to be successful in this day and ageā is what I was told by Doctor Qadr. So, I have chosen to do the opposite.ā
A gasp rang out through the crowd. The students began chattering of how crazy Aamir was, and the parents began throwing insults and demanding Qadr take the speaker off the stage. The amphitheater-like acoustics overwhelmed the manās ears and he had to cover them. Doctor Qadr, the President of the University of Karueein, simply raised his hand and the crowd fell silent. Just four years ago, in 859, the first university was opened, and Aamir was rethinking saying yes to being the speaker of the first graduating class.
āIām not here to tell you how to be successful; to give you a list of things that I did to achieve what I have would be folly because you are not me, and I am not you. And Doctor Q may very well kick me off the stage, so I will be brief.
āThe success that each of you have dreamed of for nearly four years now-you will not achieve it. You will be broken by the world that you do not yet know, and you will be pushed to the ground every minute of your life. Your careers will not be a fantasy. Your families will not always love you, and the worst and yet most important thing I have to say today is this: You will sometimes regret the path you chose.
āFailure is what I am talking about; I know that this word is frightening but I want you to invite it into your homes as you would a guest or a brother. I want you to-to take it in your hand and hold it firmly while you smile. I want you to let it cover you as a blanket in your darkest times; let it wipe the tears from your eyes as you sob because you messed up beyond the hope of repair.
āAs Iām looking at you all now, I want you to see the failure in my eyes as I see the hope in yours, and I want you to embrace the failure I talk about. And when youāre so broken that you quit your job, leave your wives and children, and live in your carts in the streets, I want you to hear these two words I am going to say, and keep them in your moneybag as guarded as the rings you will inherit from your mothers and fathers. That phrase is this: Itās okay.
āIt is more than okay to fail-It is expected. It is the very basis of humans, and the lives that we lead. I ran into a missionary the other day, and he told me about this man named Peter. Peter was a follower of whom many consider to be the True God. When the Jews in Israel-When the Romans and the Jews came to kill this Jesus, Peter swore he would never leave. Jesus then predicted that Peter would deny he even knew Jesus, and guess what? He did. He failed. And he still became one of the leaders of this new religion. Now, many of us here in Africa have heard of Peter. Some of us may even have converted to this new Christianity, but thatās not my point. I am not a missionary-I am a failure. I cherish my failures almost more than I cherish my successes, and Iāll tell you why.
āIn failure, I have found my friends. In failure, I have found God, strength, happiness. I have learned to look in the golden mirror in my room, and see myself for who I really am, and I have learned that even before I made the accomplishments I did in medicine, I was enough. In failure, I learned to lean on others who had been down the dark road I was on, and in failure, I learned to be a light for others on the dark road they were on.
āIn conclusion, I want to say this: Fail, learn, and be the hope for others. For if we always succeeded, we would take what we have for granted, and if you all use your success for yourselves and not for others, then we, as a generation of teachers, have failed you. Good luck.ā
Letās Talk About Dissociation
Dissociation is a defense mechanism used by the mind to protect oneself from a perceived threat. Witnessing or experiencing a traumatic incident or enduring chronic abuse may result in the development of this mental process. Dissociation is most often developed during oneās childhood, as children are more susceptible to imaginative thinking and escapism during times of stress. Once this method of detachment has been learned it can be difficult to rid oneself of it, thus leading to interference in oneās daily life even after they have escaped the abuse.Ā
Dissociation can be difficult to handle when youāre in a public setting such as work or school, or when youāre around friends and family who are unable to recognize the signs. Itās common to be stuck in an uncomfortable situation dissociating and not knowing what to do. Itās common to dissociate without knowing youāre dissociating. Itās common to feel overwhelmed or controlled by your dissociation.
This post is going to focus on the impact of dissociation in each area of oneās life and how to deal with it. Recognizing when you are dissociating and how you dissociate is a great first step to becoming more self-aware and gaining more control over your trauma.
Signs at school:
Repetitive memory lapses, including forgetting assignments or forgetting taught material. Based on the severity, you may only remember the basics of a subject, or you may have forgotten the basics (such as simple division or multiplication in math)
Feeling like other students are robots, or are not real, or are duplicates. This feeling may be more intense when walking in hallways between classes, or during recess or lunch
Feeling as though your desk or reading materials are twenty feet away despite them being inches from you
Staring at the clock yet being unable to read it
Poor grades caused by memory lapses, or poor grades caused by apathy resulting from a sense of derealization
Static in your vision when reading or feeling like your peripheral vision is closing in on you or darkeningĀ
Teachers or classmates repeating questions to you multiple times because you did not hear them, not being receptive to interaction
Writing letters backwards without knowing, presenting disarrayed and odd essays
Staring at your assignment unblinkingly for minutes, acting as if you are frozen or in a catatonic haze
What can you do?
Use your five senses to connect with reality. Without being distracting to other students, fiddle with your eraser or pencil, or flip repetitively through the pages in your book. Do anything you can to feel physically present. If your teacher would allow you to, using a stress ball to squeeze may help tremendouslyĀ
Keep your eyes moving. By remaining active, youāll reduce the amount ofĀ āspacing outā you experience. Repetitively blink your eyes and look around the room. Avoid staring at one spot for a prolonged period of time.
Use humor. Look at your teacher and imagine them wearing something funny or saying something ridiculous. Think of a joke you know that always makes you smile
Look for opportunities to become more engaged with your surroundings. If youāre having trouble reading, volunteer to read out loud if possible, as this may help you process the information better. If the teacher asks if anyone has a question, ask one to engage in conversation and distract yourself. This is a good way of interacting with someone without getting in troubleĀ
If you have to, dismiss yourself to the bathroom and splash some cold water in your face. This may help you come to your senses
If you know of any specific triggers at school, whether it be a person or a certain room, try to avoid being around them, or in that room. If there is no way of avoiding your triggers, mentally prepare yourself before facing the triggers and have a plan set up ahead of time for if you do begin dissociating
Signs at work:
A sudden decrease in performance for seemingly no reason
Repetitively messing up orders or misconstruing information given to you by a customer or client
Feeling as though you are staring right through a customer or client
Severe memory lapses, such as forgetting tasks youāve practiced for months, forgetting the name of the business you work for, or forgetting your name when introducing yourself to a customer or client
Coworkers commenting on your behavior, possibly saying youāre acting cold, quiet, rude, or distant
Reacting intensely to any mistakes you make; alternatively, acting completely indifferent towards any mistakes you make
Getting lost in thought when coworkers are talking to you
Feeling compelled to act in a certain way, monitoring your every action, feeling as though you are pretending to be you
What can you do?
If possible, walk as much as you can to remain active. This will be much easier to achieve for people who do not have desk jobs. If you have a desk job, interact with items on your desk. If youāre allowed to, bring an item to work thatās interactive that you can adorn your desk with
If you have a desk job, tape a piece of paper to your desk or cabinets to remind you of what to do when you feel this way, or tape a joke or something lighthearted such as a kitten image
If youāre given breaks, take advantage of them. Eat something, splash cold water on your face, listen to music, or if youāre allowed to, drive to a nearby gas station or store to get out of the building and become more attuned to your surroundings. Being in an open area with fresh air may help
Create games to keep yourself focused on something other than your dissociation or trauma. Examples would be seeing how many customers you can make smile, or seeing how many customers you can get to order a specific item, or seeing if you can convince a coworker to buy you a coffee
Talk to your boss if needed. The way you approach the conversation should be based on their personality and level of knowledge regarding trauma or mental disorders. You may need to compile resources for them to read or retrieve some type of note from your therapist for them to read. Effective communication is a vital key to maintaining any relationship, whether itās romantic, platonic, or purely business.Ā
Signs at home:
Identity confusion, such as acting in a fashion you or your family and friends would consider offensive
Out of body experiences, feeling as though you are watching yourself from above
Feeling as though you are in a movie
Friends or family members saying you have aĀ āglazedā look, or that your eyes appear empty
Experiencing an inability to feel pain, developing a numbness to it
Objects around you appearing diminished in size or looking artificial
Ā Severe memory lapses, such as forgetting the name of your street, forgetting who your close friends are, or forgetting specific periods of your life
Not recognizing yourself in the mirror
Tunnel vision or blurry vision
A lack of belonging when out with family or friends
Being unable to account for things youāve done, such as not remembering completing a purchase, not remembering writing a letter youāve found, or finding unexplained clothes in your closet
Time loss, or feeling as though youāve forgotten everything during a period of time, or feeling like youāve blacked out
What can you do?
Count different colored things in the room. Three red things, five greens things, and so forth. Doing this is a good way to distract yourself and stay aware of your surroundings
Take a cool bath or shower
Hold ice cubes in your hand or put your hand in a bowl of ice cubes. This will wake you up and is a good way to avoid self-harming if you want to feel something
Engage in a productive hobby you enjoy, such as drawing, writing, or reading
Start cleaning
Instead of texting, try calling a friend. Hearing someoneās voice may help ground you
If you have a pet, interact with them. Let them crawl on you or sit on you. Play with them. Talk to them
Take a long whiff of a strong yet pleasant scent, such as a candle, flowers, or air freshener

loving me must be so fucking hard i am so fucking sorry
Iām Just a Black Man
You look at me with disgust on your face, and you sneer when I pass by your place. You donāt want to get to know me. You think Iām dangerous and terrorize these streets. You donāt tell your friends about me. Because Iām just a black and I donāt mean anything.
Ā You shy away when I smile at you, and you hide your children from my view. All I wanted was to say thank you, for bringing back my dog, but how could you think that my intentions are anywhere near pure, because Iām just a black man, and you know Iām dangerous for sure.
And when did I lose the respect of the adults that are supposed to educate me? What did I do wrong that you want to put me in detention for the same thing that little Johnny did, but he got a warning. Nah, I see how it is, and I know youāre biased because of what youāve been taught and I know that you never thought that I would ever amount anything, so why should I try when youāre just waiting for that confirmation bias to run to your peers and tell them what youāve told them for years: That Iām just a black man, and Iām not worth the pain sweat and tears.
Ā And what did I do to be stopped every six blocks in my own neighborhood by the cops that I wave to everyday, but at night, Iām the perpetrator of some random crime that wasnāt committed because Iām not a bad guy. But you donāt see that. You only see the shade of my skin and the set of my teeth and decide that my eyes look dangerous and so you must confront me because anyone who you donāt understand scares you, but before I bare my soul let me say to you that Iām not the one you should be afraid of. Iām just a person, but you donāt know that, of course. Because to you, Iām just a black man, taking up space and wasting money with the place in your cell that you reserved from my third grade test scores.
Ā And just because my father left me doesnāt mean that I shouldnāt get the chance to be a dad. I donāt think you shouldnāt own land just because your fathers were messed up, but you only see that Iām broken and so I must be looking for a fix. Drugs, money, sex, guns, wherever I can, Iāll run. Thatās what you think, but you donāt know that Iām actually on my way to school right now, but I have no car, and the reason I carry is to protect myself from the white guy who thinks he retake Gary, and though weāre both Hoosiers, he calls me a loser because I have one pair of shoes while he has many. But Iām just a black man, so itās my fault that my mother lost her job, and my sister got attacked and if I would just keep my head down, no trouble would come, but any of these things can happen to anyone, so why is it my fault? See, Ā thatās a double standard that I resent.
Ā And now that Iām successful because I played your game and Iām āless ghettoā and I have fame, you congratulate me for doing a good job and beating all the odds and defying tradition because you need me to be the reason that you get a good rep, but let me tell you: I havenāt done anything yet. Yea I got money, I got an education, and I got a family, but that doesnāt mean that Iām gonna stop there because what I have, I earned and I donāt want your congratulations because you didnāt spend the extra seconds on your white friend, so what makes me so different? You see, Iām not special or terrific or anything that you think I have to be to make it in this world you created. Iām just a black man, and I did what you did. I did me.
Ā So why are you scared of me? What did I do to you to deserve the power youāre giving me? Yea, Iām angry, that you donāt treat me the same as everyone but the world is unfair and if I were to compare the difference between me and you, the similarities would light up like stars. See, anger doesnāt solve anything, so rather than putting me down and making me confused by your actions, take a step in the right direction and help make amends with this notion that Iām not who I say I am. Just take my hand and maybe one day we can get past the hypocrisy and the hatefulness and live in a place where we can work and play and rest in peace beneath the ground that we both tread upon with our feet. Because Iām just a black man, and youāre just a white man and sheās just a woman, and heās just a child, so before you go away for a while, take the time to sit and talk with me, because together weāre just two people sharing similarities.

Always be in love with a soul, not a face. āvia http://ift.tt/2eY7hg4
I like deep thinkers. I donāt like to have normal conversations with people. I love learning about what makes them who they are. Their thoughts. Views. Who is important to them. What is important to them. Let me pick your brain. ā viaĀ https://goo.gl/P1YQZY
