[A stranger in a cat eared hoodie walked around the archives. It looks like they came out of Artifact storage. They had a lanyard with a badge on it with a poorly drawn smiley face]
[They looked lost, though they were smiling while they walked]
@take-your-lessons-from-a-cat
[Sparrow was rifling through files, but glanced up at the stranger. They noted the visitor badge. And the lack of picture. Artifact Storage must have lost their camera again. They give the stranger a small wave and a smile, their eyes shifting between colors]
Ah, hello! Is there something youāre looking for?
No! Not at all!
[They look at Sparrow, and tilt their head, their own eyes shifting color slightly, but more in the way of the Cheshire cat]
I was just wandering- i think.
[Their gaze drifts away from sparrow and to somthing that wasnt there... or the wall. It was hard to tell]
Another Spiral avatar. . .
[They shuffle through a few more files, watching the stranger all the while. They glance at his nametag]
Felix, is it? Out of all the places to wander youāve picked a rather strange one. Not really a view down here. What exactly is so interesting over there?
[Funny, usually they were the one hallucinating. Unless theyād started getting hallucinations of things disappearing. Oh dear. . .]
Yes, that is a name- my name. That is my name.
[He looked over at Sparrow]
Can you not see her? Shes clearer than the others, she cant be dead.
[They look again, seeing no one there. Then back at Felix.]
I canāt Iām afraid. But that doesnāt necessarily mean sheās not there. My vision canāt always be trusted. Could you describe her?
[He hummed]
Short hair, hair clips, jacket, medium hight, and lines. Like this.
[He drug his finger down the side of his face]
They look like a very odd pinetree..
Thatās. . . certainly a way to describe someone.
[They try to see it better, even stopping their usually constant pushback against the spiral for a moment and letting strange colors start to fill the room, but they see nothing]
Right. If they are alive, itās not in a way I can see. I think she may be dead. If itās, well ghosts, I have to assume youāre seeing, right?
I think so. I see them everywhere, its hard to tell whos alive and who isnt.. its quite odd isnt it?
[He blinked a few times and his eyes changed colors every time he did so]
I guess they arent alive.
Sounds like youāve got quite the problem. If it helps, the only people I can see in this room are you and I. So I would have to assume the rest are ghosts.
How exactly did you get in here, by the way?
Like this.
[His smile widened and he fadded away. His grin was the last to dissapear. His laugh echoed around sparrow for a moment before he was behind them]
Well, I did that in a room with an employee that had an odd watch and then i ended up here.
[Sparrow turns around, looking unsurprised. They smile. There was something all too familiar about the way Felix spoke. His seeming unfamiliarity with his own abilities]
So you are a Spiral avatar, at least in some aspects. You know Iām not entirely sure Iāve ever met another one.
[They put out their hand and it lands on a doorknob to a door that wasnāt there before. They open it just a bit, revealing a very odd looking room inside. Their form shifts, theyāre more warped now, hands extending longer than they should and their face not looking quite human. They smile just a bit wider than one should be able to. Their voice takes on an echoey quality that wasnāt there before]
Iāve got something similar. Doors. May I guess a few things about you?
You know your name, or at least a name that fits, but not where you came from or almost anything from before you came from there. Am I accurate so far?
Yes! This is very accurate!
[He blinked a few times, his eyes shifting hues each time he did so. He brushed off his jacket a few times and he shifted into a more Spiraly form]
Why dont I have a door though? This may be quite a predicament.
Itās different for every avatar. I know of myself and one other that has doors, but some others appear out of corners when no one is looking, fold out of reality, or in your case, the smile thing.
[They study him for a moment, nodding to themself when they seem to have made enough observations]
Now correct me if Iām wrong, but youāre rather new to this, arenāt you Felix?
Im not sure! I dont quite remember anything, therefore I wouldnt know if I were new to this, would I? Maybe i existed before and my mind is elsewhere, maybe im not me, maybe im not real.
[He laughed to himself]

Do you see them too?
[A voice sounded from over Its shoulder but there was no one there]
@take-your-lessons-from-a-cat
Wh-?
[Merlyn turned around, nearly dropping the photos theyād been trying to restore in the darkroom back into the water. Theyād stayed late to finish them up and had lost track of time. On instinct they put a hand over their watch]
See whom? I- whoās in here?
Theres someone in here?
[A laugh echoed around them as a wide smile appeared on the other side of the room]
[They starting winding back their watch, looking very concerned about the smile]
Well for one thing thereās me, and um, apparently you. Who or- whatever you are. . .
Who?
[The smile turned into a person- or did a person appear because of the smile? For a moment they looked like a very fancily dressed man with a pinstripe suit, but in a blink they seemed to be a younger man wearing a stripped hoodie with... cat ears?]
Me? I dont think im here, and neither are you.
[It looks at him, expression shifting when his appearance changed]
Well. . . you are, at least in a way thatās relevant. Because weāre speaking. And Iām here because Iāve been here all day. Here as in um, well mostly this room. Which you donāt have clearance to be in, at least not that Iām aware of. . . um.
You. . . youāre not human, are you?
Am I? Tell me, what defines a human? Is one's state of being or simply not being a monster?
[He walked a few steps to his left and looked at somthing that wasnt there before giggling and nudging the air with his Elbow]
I um- I donāt know.
[They hold the photo they had a little tighter. Who- or, truly, whatever this man was, he was very strange and made it feel very wary]
Whoās your friend that I canāt see?
[His smile widened slightly, and he looked between Merlyn and the "air"]
I dont know, I thought you knew them.
[He laughed]
Theyre probably dead.
Dead? A-as in, like a ghost? Thereās a ghost in here?
Oh gods Iāve been swearing at these photos all day. I probably sound like an ass!
There are ghosts everywhere, you just need to look.
[He tilted his head at an odd angle and glanced around the room]
Im not even sure how many people in here are alive. Are you alive?
Yes, for the time being. . .
[They wind their watch back some more]
And as far as someone who um, canāt see ghosts can see, you and I are the only ones in this room. And if you count yourself as alive, that would make two of us.
[He laughed, though his eye twitched. He looked fairly annoyed. His smile never faltered though]
I see. I dont entirely know if I am alive or not, a shame really.
[They have moved close enough to the door of the darkroom now to grab the handle]
That is rather unfortunate. If thatās a question youāreāhehādying to answer youāre in the right building to do it. Figuring out odd things like that are kind of what we do around here.
But uhm, I was just about finished with the photos in there so if you plan on continuing conversing with the living, youāll have to follow me out uhm. . . I never got a good name to call you. Do you have one?
[He laughed as his form seemed to melt into the mire fancily dressed one from before]
Felix is my name is belive. Though its hard to tell nowadays. Everything gets so confusing.
[He laughed once more and his smile seemed to Widen an almost impossible amount]
[Merlyn nods, opening the door and motioning for him to follow]
It sounds like it.
Iām Merlyn. Like the wizard, but with a āyā.
[Something in their demeanor shifts now, as if having a name to assign to this stranger suddenly made the situation perfectly normal and that normal protocol was to be followed. It turns back to look at him, studying the changes.]
Now out of the many people that show up in Artefact Storage unannounced, you are one I havenāt run into yet. Did you end up here on accident or was there something you were looking for that you thought we may have? Either is fine, I just make a point of keeping records.
[He smiled and seemed to dissapear, his grin remaining for a few moments before he was on the other side of the door Merlyn opened.]
Im not quite sure how I ended up here. I just smile and end up somewhere different.
[He looked past Merlyn for a moment and snickered]
For being dead, they are quite funny. Dont you think?
[It gives him an odd look and shuts the door.]
Interesting, and um, Iām afraid I canāt hear them. Or see them. If itās funny enough theyāll have to scratch it into the wall or haunt a book for me to understand.
[The briefly hold a camera up towards him, but just as quickly set it down and mumble something to themself before hitting a button on a printer. From it comes a small paper with āVISITOR - Felixā and where the picture was supposed to be they put a smiley face with a wide grin. It slides the paper into a lanyard and hands it to him]
Youāll need this. Weāre not allowed to have people back here without one. Itās just protocol.
[He pulled his hood down and put on the lanyard. He looked kind of confused, his smile still remained nonthess]
This is a very poorly drawn picture of me!
[He said cheerly]
[Merlyn just shrugged]
Lost our good camera. Thereās one that just keeps appearing and every picture it takes just shows all your worst qualities externalized. So weāre working with drawings for the time being. And unless you intend on visiting again during our active hours, no one should really notice.
I do not!
[He paused]
Well, i suppose nothing is set in stone so you may see me around again
[He laughed and his gaze drifted away from Merlyn with a sigh]
You talk so. . . strangely. I mean Iām sure you know that I just. . .
Do you know what the Distortion is?
The what now?
[He put his hood back on and made sure the cat ears were pointing up]
[It leans back in a chair, taking a clipboard from a desk]
Itās. . . how do I explain it in the simplest way possible? Itās basically a supernatural manifestation of madness that can influence our world and feeds off of fear. It can overtake people and make them āof itā, we call them avatars here.
[He blinked a few times]
An avatar?
[He hummed]
I dont think I feed off of fear, but then again in not entirely sure what I do.
[They make a small note on their clipboard]
Interesting. Weāll call the avatar thing a maybe, but, surely you must know what you were doing before you came here. Right?
No.
[He stayed simply]
Well- yes, but not really. Do you know?
[He looked at the air next to him]
[They sigh. Maybe keeping a Spirit Box down here wasnāt such a crazy idea after all. Theyād have to bring theirs if he ever showed up again]
Right, if your ghost friend has any information, youāll have to translate for me. But stepping back a second, you say āyes, but not reallyā. Would you elaborate on that?
[They glance down at their watch and wind it back a significant number of hours]
I think I was somewhere dark before I got here, though i don't quite remember.
[He chuckled to himself]
Its a whole lot of shapes and colors. I suppose this is what you mean by Distortion?
That would be precisely what I mean.
[They keep writing]
Now I canāt say it for certaināthough Iām sure in your case you canāt say many things areābut I wouldnāt entirely brush off the idea that youāre a Spiral avatar.
I donāt really know all too much about it, but one of our archivists might. Or if you run into one of the archival assistants, the one with terrible handwriting, theyāre fairly similar to you. Distortion-wise anyway. Though the ghost thing is a new one to me.
[They nodded along, but their gaze slowly drifted to It's watch]
Yes, im sure. Well ill take that as my sign to go!
[He smiled and his body dissapeared leaving his smile behind.]
Oh! Alright then, goodbye! Um. . . good luck!
Thank you!
[The smile dissapeared as a laugh echoed around the room they were in]
Do you see them too?

Do you see them too?
[A voice sounded from over Its shoulder but there was no one there]

[A stranger in a cat eared hoodie walked around the archives. It looks like they came out of Artifact storage. They had a lanyard with a badge on it with a poorly drawn smiley face]

"Thank you, whoever you are. It's not mine, though."
[A floating smile seemed to appear across the room from her]
A shame. My sincerest apologies.
[Oh- they're. Here. That's absurd, of course they would be nearby. Boss is messing his mind up.]
[He looks at himself in a nearby mirror just to make sure everything's right (can't have people seeing that slanted stitch!), and turn in his swivel chair to face the grin.]
"It's alright. Now, why are you in my office?"
[When he faced the smile once more, it wasnt a smile. It was a person- maybe? Somthing seemed to be off. They were fairly fancily in a pinstripe suit with a bowtie]
I dont know.
"Hm. Oh well. You've decided to have an appearance."
[He looks them up and down.]
"Pretty interesting one."
[If something's wrong, she doesn't notice or doesn't care.]
Interesting? I dont think ive heard that adjective be used to describe a person.

"That says a lot about the people you're near."
[She's a bit taken aback by the transformation but- it's kind of silly. She likes this person already.]
"You look like the Cheshire Cat."

What a.. Fascinating establishment you have here.
[A voice seemed to echo around Maddison, ut was followed by a smug but unsettling laugh]
@take-your-lessons-from-a-cat
[Another weird voice bothering her at her job. Doesn't sound like āāāā.]
[He brushed off his suit and it turned into a stripped hoodie that shared the same colors but had.. cat ears?]
"That says a lot about the people you're near."
[She's a bit taken aback by the transformation but- it's kind of silly. She likes this person already.]
"You look like the Cheshire Cat."
The who?
[He tilted his head at an odd, almost unnatural angle.]
I dont know the people im around. Most of them are fairly old.
[He chuckled to himself and glanced around the room before pointing to somthing that wasnt there]
Like that one.
Do you see them too?
[A voice sounded from over Its shoulder but there was no one there]
@take-your-lessons-from-a-cat
