although I'm a bit surprised that zuccy is going to ufa, i naively thought that they'd work this out considering he is 38 and is a little injury prone not to mention his chemistry with kirill and the rest

like I get why kirill playing without him would be good but i wish we had one more season of him :(( maybe it can still happen?

So I have a lot of conflicting feelings on the Zuccy situation. I think it would have been great to have him for another year or maybe two if we could have swung a team friendly deal (like Bobby just did). But it kind of sounds like to me there’s two things:

1. Zuccy wasn’t made a priority and he found that insulting by the FO. I think it’s obvious Wild were and potentially are in a holding pattern to try and figure out some other stuff and Zuccy didn’t appreciate it and I get it. But there’s also the fact that he clearly thought he was worth more than whatever Wild were offering (league minimum most likely) and wasn’t happy.

But also

2. They had to cut that cord eventually. He can’t play much longer and there seemed to have been some real frustration in terms of Kirill’s style of play he was doing with Zuccy (east/west perimeter) vs. what they wanted (north/south crash the net). There was a real issue there in the playoffs despite the point production.

It really sucks. I don’t expect him back, another team will grab him for whatever he wants for a year. I don’t think he will produce the same points next season without Kirill and will likely retire after whatever contract he is signed is up.
