Quinn reminds me of my old boyfriend Bob from hs/college to a T, except Bob wore glasses. But the messy hair is so Bob coded. My girlfriends called him “Bird Nest” or “Your Homeless Man.”

Bob was also neurodivergent, which he may have in common with Quinn. Idk, I’m not an expert.

I’ve been writing another book lately about a couple with communication issues, based on the Bob relationship, with the working title “How I Went Away to College and Fucked Up Everything.” It’s mostly set at Indiana University in the early ‘80s.

So I’ve been doing what I do when I write, I collect pictures that represent the characters, who “play” them. Quinn is the stand-in for young Bob, and young Carrie Fisher is the stand-in for me. I used to pin these pics on a bulletin board by my desk, but now I just have them downloaded.
