One of two war orphans found in the Thunder Falls area of Elwynn during the fall of the Defias Brotherhood, Zpan was the elder of the two. Having been born outside Stormwind City in a time of chaos, there is no records of the birth of either Zpan or her younger sister Maj.

Found by an elderly Priest of the Light named Thomas Ashton they were taken to the Stormwind City Orphanage, what little information about the girls was gleaned from the feral Zpan, who provided their names and nothing more. If the names are in fact theirs that is - due to the young age of Zpan, Thomas and the Matron of the Orphanage have wondered if the girls’ birth names might actually be something different. Their exact ages are uncertain as no one knows their dates of birth.

Due to severe malnutrition that almost took the life of herself and her younger siter, Zpan grew up to be short in build like her sister; unlike the far more fragile girl, Zpan had better access to roots and berries, making her the healthier and stronger of the pair. It shows in her stocky build. The sisters’ lack of height as well as their unknown heritage often made them the target of ‘half-dwarven’ jokes from their fellow orphans.

Aside from the taunts and occasional physical bullying - which was swiftly curtailed by Zpan’s brutal retaliations - the pair grew up in the Orphanage in a relatively sheltered existence. Unlike Maj, who quickly domesticated and has no memory of the time before the Orphanage, Zpan remained feral and has faint memories of the couple she believes to be their parents being killed and then later on burying them.

Due to this she is far more comfortable out in the middle of the forest surrounded by nature and the various beasts she tames. The first of these beasts was a wolf pup found before being taken into the Orphanage that she raised up and was named by Maj as 'Wolfie'. Her animal menagerie grows the older she gets to include large cats, birds of prey, and a hyena.

When she was old enough, she tucked Maj into the Cathedral's Cloister for her training as a priest and left to start a career as a mercenary. In that time she has crossed all over the Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor doing odd jobs, mostly working as a bounty hunter or bodyguard.
