so for starters, here’s a screenshot from iris’ mmkb page:

so it is canon that she is the “good” parts of x; the peaceful pacifist, while her brother is his warrior side (we could get into how this heavily disproves the common fanon interpretation of x but that’s not the topic at hand)

the main thing to pull from this is that zero not only fell in love with a replication of x’s personality that doesn’t involve fighting, but that iris reciprocated. a reploid intended to completely mirror x’s softer side was in love with zero. guys. come on.

you could argue that I’m a crazed fan that’s obsessed with shipping (which isn’t completely wrong), but if you look at this from a standpoint where characters are removed and it’s just

“male character (a) is amazingly close with another male character (b), and (a) is in love with female character (c), who also loves (a). but (c) was created to be based on (b), and is canonically a representation of some of (b)’s traits.”

fellas. compadres. folks. is this not just “if ___ were a girl, I’d love him”??? are we not implying that zero is technically in love with x by being in love with iris??? the implications are tremendous and I refuse to be silent.

to circle back to when I accentuated that zero loved iris and not colonel (apart from how he’s male and all that junk) because she was the peacemaker and he was the fighter; this also says a bit about zero and his own arc too.

we ALL know that x4 is important as hell to the series mostly because it’s the only canon zero backstory we have (and that it has hilariously awful English voice acting), but because of this revealed backstory, we can start to consider his mental state. and man is he. uh. special :)

there’s no way that zero, in his pretty fragile mental state during x4, would have been super into fighting like he was before learning of his intended purpose. you try growing up in a lifestyle nonchalantly and then one day learning that you were built for that purpose. that one thing, and that you have literally committed atrocities to the people you call friends and colleagues. it would fuck you up mentally!!

and all that brings me to this: iris was created to accentuate Mr. peace incarnate (x btw) and zero fell in love with the idea of peace, not of fighting, like he’s used to and built for, but peace.
